I had to compose this 100% by ear, since there aren't any MIDI or sheet music uploads of the original song that I know of. This wasn't a huge problem, because I listen to the Dead Cells OST way too much, but it still resulted in the composition not being entirely accurate to the source material.
I pretty much just made this for fun, which is why I'm not too picky about the result.

Nice work! I liked the instrument choices and thought the quality of the mix was great!
Good remix, sounds really nice!
I like how you were able to allow each new layer that’s introduced come into the foreground before fading back to allow the next layer to enter. The underlying ambience sets a tone that gives me an idea for the vibe you were going for even before the melody began. Transcription is a great skill to develop and you did a fantastic job with this! Great work and thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much! :) Though I have to say that the layering is mostly just a recreation of the source material and not an original idea of my own.
Nice cover, I quickly listened to the original and yeah, this is leaning more to the style of those older video game music (so I don't think lo-fi is the right term, but idk), great job, especially for just making it by ear!
Thank you! Yeah, I didn’t follow very closely with the typical characteristics of the “lo-fi” genre, but since lo-fi really just means low fidelity, I think anything with a grainy tape effect or any other effect that degrades the audio quality can technically qualify.
I really like this remix!! It's super accurate to what the OG track sounds like while still having a new take. The drums are really overpowering though. The bass punches through everything and could've used a compressor on it. Other than that, really good submission!
Thank you for the feedback! As mentioned in the description, I rushed myself to finish this at the last moment and didn’t really give myself time to be thorough, and the remix will have to suffer for my mistake XD
I also didn’t take time to really analyze the result before submitting, but now that you mention it the drums do seem way too loud. Thanks for pointing that out!
Cool entry! Personally I find some of the instruments too loud, and it gets a bit repetitive, but its cool hearing Dead Cells in an electronic vibe!
Thank you! :D Yeah, I agree that the instrument volumes are really imbalanced; In my rush to get this done at the last moment, I didn’t give myself enough time to re-listen and analyze the mixing, composition, etc. The repetitiveness is mostly from having to write this by ear and not having a lot of sections that I could convincingly recreate.
Specifically they're kind of high on the upper register, so I'd EQ the top range down.
Yeah, that was something else I started to notice after finishing it. I’ll probably re-release the remix publicly on YouTube after taking some of the advice I’ve received here, and just generally spending more time polishing the mixing, mastering and composition.
Next competition I'm going to "finish" everything a week early so that I can fix everything I hear wrong with it.... lol.
Anyways, good entry. :)
