I'm impressed you got the networking working and still managed to make the game! I really enjoyed spinning around and figuring out how to get the movement to be deliberate with a friend. I like the style a lot, but it doesn't feel completely cohesive (but I assume that's mostly just a time constraint thing), and the music felt a bit intense after a little while. Overall very cool!
Thanks for the comments Terry! Really helpful feedback on the art style. Was it the glowiness vs the clay style ships that wasn't quite working or was it something else? Wasn't sure if the song fit the style that well either
Yeah pretty much exactly that - the racetrack is very slick and glowy, and the background realistic vs the clay/stop motion ships. Maybe making the UI more like the ship-style would help bring them together? I feel like the music is quite hard in a slick way which accentuates the track rather than the ships. Maybe even some sound design could help, like cute noises when the ship hits the side of the track sort of thing? I do like the track and the ship styles, they just feel a bit different in the current iteration.
That makes sense. It was mostly was a time thing, though I was a bit at a loss as to what to make the track walls look like that worked thematically.
I know others have mentioned that the force should be generated from in front of the center of mass, but honestly I quite enjoyed figuring out how to be precise with the rockets as they are. Once you get the hang of it the drifting is quite a lot of fun. The one thing I would have liked to have seen is a map with wider lanes, possibly slower curves.
The fact that this is an online multiplayer is mind blowing to me. And the art-style you are developing is really gorgeous! Well played!
As others have mentioned, AI would have been great and I would have really enjoyed playing this with others! It's like Flappy Bird and Fall Guys mixed :)
The music is great and I dig the stop motion animation on the ship. I eventually found that bumping into the sides and trying to fly along like that worked best. Maybe there should be a greater consequence for sticking on the side? Maybe not. I think with lots of people it'd be mega chaotic no matter what.
Well done!
Hi! Just a reminder of this rule: " To be eligible to win any of the prizes, your team has to play and give feedback to five other entries by Monday, 5th October 2020".
So if you haven't done it yet, you still have the rest of this weekend and Monday to give your feedback!
You should just be honest and call this Torque.... or Torque Torque.
Having said that, the torque was my least favourite part of this. It was too much. A little is fun. A lot is really frustrating, especially if you are playing by yourself, which I know is not the point.
I played with a friend and it was definitely much more fun to do that. This would be a really good party game if there were lots of players.
I think you've got a prototype of something really cool here and I hope you'll do more with it.
The Dark Souls of racing games
Hi Nick, Great solo entry!
Firstly getting multiplayer in is a real achievement. Secondly, bringing asteroids controls to a racing game is madness! I love it, I need to give this a go with some other players to witness the chaos.
At times I thought you could just coast along the boundary but you added those yellow balls that spin you out, very evil ;-)
Also glad to see the claymation art style made it in, it's visually interesting. My only feedback would be to somehow add AIs, but that's a bit scope heavy for a game jam.
Great job!
Thanks for the feedback @Gnoblar_agency. Glad you enjoyed it!
Cool game Nick!
Fun animation effect on the ship.
I'm bummed that you can only fully enjoy this with others. I know creating an AI could of been difficult.
But always awesome to see your multiplayer concepts!
Thanks for trying out the game! AI would be cool. If only had had more time :)
Sorry I couldn't get to try this out with others, I'm sure it would be quite different. I enjoyed the "clay" visual style, not sure if thats the right word but it reminds me of those old claymation style series like Wallace & Gromit for some reason!
Controls feel a little soooo unresponsive. Maybe this is intended to add some chaos, couldn't really tell without others but as a solo run it's pretty rough!
Thanks for trying out the game ReadyGO. Sorry you couldn't experience it in all its chaotic mess.
> Controls feel a little soooo unresponsive
That was a common complaint. Think there are things that could be done to improve it without eliminating the chaos in the multiplayer mode.
Love the music. Controls are kinda frustrating to get used to. Like the visual style of the game.
This was a lot of chaotic fun to play, would definitely like an opportunity to play this with a full lobby as I can imagine it being a complete mess, which feels like it would only add to the enjoyment of the racing and crashing around.
One comment I could make is that the cartoony movement and style feels at odds with the force at which you hit walls, also given how they look it could maybe feel better if there was some form of slight bounce.
