Congrats on getting #1 in the Best Game category and for getting gHost's Choice for this year's Scream Jam!
SCREAM JAM 2024 gHost's Choice -
This game is an absolute blast. For a horror game that’s completely left-field in terms of tone and genre, it’s a shooter on rails set in an alternate-history Great War where chemical weapons become so potent they end up reviving the dead. It delivers a complete arcade experience, with players navigating a hazy, devastated Western Front shelling zombies from the safety of an armoured train. There’s plenty of dialogue to guide the player along their journey. Enemy ragdolls, collectables, cannons as an alternate weapon, and destructible environments create immensely satisfying gunplay that keeps the game enjoyable. Easily the most fun to be had for the jam.
Thank you for submitting Rotting Railway to SCREAM JAM 2024, and congratulations on being selected as one of the ten gHost's Choice entries for the jam!
Thank you so much for letting me be a part of it! I had a lot of fun working on this game, even wen things were tough. I learned a lot and grew as a game dev. It means so much to me that you picked my game to be part of the gHost's Choice!
This game was fantastic, performance was great which is impressive considering the type of game it is so clearly a very talented developer. Loved all the enemies and the gunplay was incredibly satisfying and good to use. Super polished stuff. Only bug I came across was I felt my tank fight went on a good bit longer than it should have. The weakspot was only showing up for a few seconds then dissapearing for a minute but that was about it.
Great atmosphere and level design too going through no mans land on the train felt great. My only nitpick cos I’m a big UI nerd is the text felt a too big and chunky, I think you can find a font more suiting of your game and have it be a bit thinner. Other than that I can’t say anything bad. Fantastic stuff
I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the feedback! I'm definitely planning on changing the font of the game. I had to resort to using the default Unreal Font because I was running out of time for the initial build. I'm probably going to switch it to an old typewriter looking font soon!
hell yeah
This felt really polished. The sounds, and gameplay are so satisfying. Great game!
Very enjoyable. The weapons felt good to use, and I discovered that you could do something akin to Doom’s “quick switching”, which I had fun with. Also, great visuals. Just an amazing job all around. One note that I have is that maybe you could consider automatically adjusting the player’s aim such that when you swap weapons they are aiming at the same position. Although that readjustment might be an intended part of the gameplay, in which case ignore that idea
Great idea and well executed!! Had a blast with this! (and loved the zombie runs + poses)
Had a lot of fun, I hope you will manage to make a full game, because this is already very promising.
The setting is cool, the weapons feel punchy, and I like that destroying props sometimes gives you bonuses.
WW1 with Zombies and cannons on rails what's not to love. The gameplay is fun and the story telling is solid.
Outstanding work!
This game is very cool and fun to play. It has everything. A fantastic setting, amazing mechanics and stunning visuals. I like how the sound of the train almost become part of the soundtrack and follows the rhythm when it slow down and pick up speed. There was also a very cool boss fight. Amazing.
