Any other notes?
The game follows the optional theme "It's Been There Along" because... well... play it to find out :)

The story is inspired by the real-life ant parasite: the zombie ant fungus. Scared the hell out of me when I first heard about it.

Really cool! The movements and art are dope.  I think a tweak in color scheme and music could make this more scary if you wanted it to be.

i think i don't understand the horror, is it just the end with the ant queen which is horror or is it supposed to be some psychological horror i didn't get ? (not an attack, just a genuine question 'cause i often don't get the psychological horror in games)
But anyway, the game was good, but way too hard (particularly level 4), the only thing you should have added was a difficulty selection, but it was a game jam so time was limited so i understand. Good game.

Developer

Technically, the horror is meant to gradually build up in the background (with all the dead ants and whatnot), but I admit I didn't do a great job at properly establishing tension or environmental clues in a clear way. I understand if you didn't get what was going on entirely, Nonetheless, I appreciate you having the patience to finish the game and see the actual ending. Thanks!

Just finished it after dying a dozen of times on the green ant, she’s really rough and the apple was nicely hidden!

I really liked your aesthetic and ants can be a really topic of horror. If you like them, there is a french studio that will be releasing a strategy game focused around ants called “Empire Of Ants”. It’s a small company but the game looks great and is promising :)

Thanks. I will be taking a look at that recommendation :)

What's the name of the fear of insects - entomophobia? I got that after playing SimAnt as a child and basically this captures that really uncomfortable insect experience. The SimAnt thing carries through to the aesthetic of the game, which has that nostalgic tile-based 90s Win3.1 thing going on.  That said, this is not just SimAnt - it's a very original and narrative game through the eyes - or technically I guess you could call em ocelli - of an ant. Soon, there's all kind of hazards, including spikes giving a precision aspect to the game, green ants introducing a bit of stealth, and once combined with the level with the red ant, it's genuinely challenging. You really fleshed this out and it's clear you had a blast making this. I for one welcome our new ant overlords!

Developer

Thank you! I, in fact, did enjoy making this game a lot. I haven't played  SimAnt but I'm glad that my game had an impact on you.

I really love the movement mechanic but kept getting eaten by green ants so I couldn't continue :/

Developer

Sorry. Hide behind the hills so it doesn't detect you. I should've hinted at that in the game.

The concept was very unique and the game is actually pretty fun! Level 4 was really hard and took me a while to beat. I liked the ending! Good work!

Not really scary, I like the challenges tho, the way to deal with the green ant is not too obvious I think, some kind of hint would be nice, there's a corner in level 5 that is a bit tough in timing, but it creates lots of intense on the way back :D

The game ran really well.

It looks good, is fun and is an original idea. But LVL4 is too hard for me. And I personnaly don't really see the horror in this, unless it starts only after LVL4 ? But anyway good game.

Developer(+1)

Ah, looks like I played too much Touhou lol. Sadly, you just missed LVL5, which is where the actual horror starts to settle in. But hey, if you enjoyed it, that's good. I'll make sure to create a patch with easier difficulty after the jam ends so you can experience the ending.

Really neat concept, and I like the audio! I think the enemies are maybe a bit too fast as I couldn't seem to get past that first one, but overall I enjoyed this one :)

Developer

Sorry about that. You're meant to hide behind the closest hill, then they'll become confused and stop chasing. In fact, the fruit is hidden in one of the hills (one next to the green ant). Should have been clearer about that.
