The love for older shoujo manga is present in every detail of this game. Yamino's long experience as a comic artist shines through in the character design and the wonderful character expressions. It's a delight to play and I can only recommend you play it!

I cannot adequately express the absolute genius and perfection expressed through the art direction of the game. Stellar is an understatement. So many little details, so many little motions, so many BIG motions, such beatiful scenery, designs... all emulate the style it was going for to the most absolute perfection, in a way that you rarely see even in triple A games. The ONLY fault I could possibly point out in this department is... I got flashbanged a few times. That's fine, though. It's not the devs fault I have sensitive eyes.

For the other aspects of the game, I have to say the music was VERY good. Moody, intense, powerful, great throughout. The sound effects used, just like the art, masterfully crafted and used.

Narrative-wise, I can say that it was very entertaining and charming, and although it dipped a tad in quality at just a feeew points, it was super solid throughout, considering the length. The ending credits were also really fun and had immense amounts of personality.  This is a hard to tug on, considering how good the rest of the game is. I don't mean to sound negative, though! Not at all. This game is fantastic in every aspect considering its scope and its status as a jam game.

This is a must play for this year's Spooktober jam. It brings so much charm, charisma and fanatically good art that it quickly rose to my favorite game of the jam yet!

This game feels like it came straight out of my desires, I'm literally so hooked from the first act alone and I genuinely cannot wait for the full release (but I can bc I know that games take time and I want this to blow my expectations through the roof). I've always been a huge fan of Phantom of the Opera and having a sapphic retelling of it in a manga style, with characters and personalities to match? Ugh *chef's kiss* actual dream come true. I wish you all the best in completing it!

Fantastic charadesigns and atmosphere! Loved how the environment looked like manga panels' textures, this adds a lot to the theatrical feel of the game. Can't wait for the full release!! Eagerly waiting to see the Phantom, she sounds hot~~

Very fun! I am excited for the full game!

This is awakening all my childhood memory obsessing over Glass Mask by Miuchi Suzue. the 'secret admirer' is just Maya's purple rose, though this time black? And more obsessive (altho, Masumi being 11 years older than Maya is... a choice) Anyways, I love it so much!! The art style is a dead ringer to the shoujo classics, the music is beautiful, all the characters are lovable, and I can't wait for the full release!!!

This game has everything I love: phantom of the opera, takarazuka revue, rose of versailles, sailor moon, utena!! What more could you want? Legitimately was devastated at the end because I forgot I was playing a demo!! I loved every moment of this and I will genuinely wait for the full release with baited breath, no matter how long it takes!

There so much love for the genre in this one's production clearly on display! The nods to everything from Rose of Versailles to Utena throughout are fun, and the emulation of the style is definitely skillfully done. Pacing the story through acts and scenes slows things down a bit, but in a way that works well with the framing of the story as a whole! The various visual effects are also a really great touch, and are really well-animated - well done, and congrats on going from Tumblr comic to Spooktober VN!

This game is so polished and pretty! The art direction and retro shojo manga aesthetic are simply top-notch. I adore the animated moments, the CGs, the manga-inspired expressiveness of the sprites, the detailed backgrounds, and the sparkles, roses, and assorted visual effects.

Raika is so good-looking, and I'm not ashamed to say she made my heart go pitter-patter several times. The main character is super likable -- sweet but not a pushover. The other character designs are lovely as well. I have two guesses about the mysterious character's identity. I can't wait to see if I guessed correctly!

I laughed out loud at certain scenes involving chocolate and a kiss (!!!). The moments of terror sprinkled throughout the story are truly thrilling.

I noticed that the menu at the bottom of the screen was sometimes unreadable against certain backgrounds. Apart from that, though, this was a wonderfully well-rounded VN, and I am so excited for the release of the full version!

Black Rose Revue is a much fitting tribute to the Takarazuka Revue, all the while reminding me of Riyoko Ikeda's masterpiece "The Rose of Versailles". I cannot wait to see what's in store for this story when the full game comes.

I adored this game. The art and animation was over the top in the best ways possible. The only actual issue I had was the strange disconect in the music. Some of it was classical stuff where you could even hear the snap and pop of a record, while over tracks were 16 bit video game stuff.  It works, but it's still odd enough to confuse me.  The lack of any voice acting or text blurbs was also a bit lack luster at first, although the audio that was present was used well. There were also a few lines that with japanese phrases that I wasn't familiar with and had to look up to understand, as well as a few moment where I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking at until it was explained several sentences in after it showed up, but those are minor complaints at best.

Over all the game's art and animation steal the show. There are so many fun references hidden in the backgrounds, the art is beautiful and sheer amount and quality of the animations and CG's put many big budget Visual Novels to shame. The choice to work in black and white not only allowed for a distinctive style in the jam but allowed for some much detail and creativity.  While the lack of voice acting in a jam with pushes for voice actors is a strike against it, the decision to devote the time it would take to other aspects of the game paid off in spades!  If this doesn't make the top three at least I will be very surprised.

I loved The Phantom of the Black Rose Opera! Using Ryoko Ikeda-inspired illustrations and setting the Phantom of The Opera storyline in a Takarazuka production is incredibly inspired.

Your witty and sharp writing endeared me to your central cast immediately: Chihiro is adorable, Raika is incredibly charming (I was blushing at her), and Tomiko is entertaining as hell. I'm also deeply intrigued by our mysterious Phantom... but I guess she's for the full game. I will be patient, and eagerly awaiting her debut!

I also want to give a shout out to the visual direction on this game: it's incredibly polished. I think a lot about the opening scene where Chihiro and Raika are introduced: the pseudo-3D effect is gorgeous. Hats off to that: I'm definitely taking inspiration from you in my future works.

The soundtrack is charming too, with the dramatic use of organs for the climactic scenes: I can see hints of Lloyd Webber's Phantom score, which put a smile on my face. (If that wasn't intentional though, I apologize.)

All in all, great work here - and I eagerly await the full release!

Loved it a lot!! I remember seeing Yamino's Phantom of the Opera manga page-style illustrations on Tumblr and I was thrilled to discover that they made a whole game inspired by it! It's super well made and the 70's shoujo art style is SOO perfect, I'm in love. Very excited for the full game! I neeeeeed to know what happens nextttt

I think this is my first visual novel experience! I imagine I'm the perfect target audience of this work, since I'm familiar with the stories from which this draws inspiration (The Rose of Versailles, Phantom of the Opera) as well as Yamino and Ash's work with the comic Sister Claire. I'm excited to see the full game!
