This was great, I loved the style of it, and the choice to make the clothes be in color was amazing. The concept was fun, and I enjoyed the game!
Everyone else has already pointed out the criticisms that came to mind, so I'll refrain from beating a dead horse and just say that this was super cute! It kinda brought me back to some early 2000's fashion games that came with their own little funky consoles. Very specific vibe, and one I found really charming. I think the decision to make everything except the clothing items monochromatic was a fantastic choice. It really helped add character with all the little pops of colour! Also, some of the clothing pieces were legitimately rad. I was pleasantly surprised to see Mothman himself had some stylish drip. :]
Nice work!
Great concept, totally hit the themes of the game jam, but as Bilk pointed out, I found the difficulty a little too much. I didn't know what I could do to avoid Mothman and it made me feel like I was "bad" at the game. I didn't even try to get all the clothing. But I did play a few times to see what else there was to explore. I liked the fashion show ending, but I didn't feel the need to try and get a perfect score.
I would've liked a HUD or some indication of when my stamina was running low as well. I just had to kinda guess, and didn't know when it was refilled.
As a game jam prototype, this is awesome. I hope you keep working on it and better balance some of the difficulty. Oh the Mothman. Great villain, because I truly hated him while playing. :)
Nice work.
Thank you so much for your kind words and feedback!
Sadly, the mothman is very broken and I noticed too late and didn't have the time to fix him / balance the game to make it more fair / fun to play.
The stamina meter was also something we wanted to implement, but sadly we just ran out of time. We do plan to keep working on the game, adjust the difficulty, fix all the bugs, and maybe even add a little to it :)
Woud love for you to check it out once we are done! Thanks again for your feedback!
Overall, I love it.
This game is amazing... conceptually. I feel disappointed that this game is so good yet still falls short.
This game has a few (but very notable) flaws. With some better balancing, I would genuinely feel compelled to get all 12 clothing items. But as it stands, it is too difficult.
The game is well made, and has a lot of content for a game jam game.
It'd be more interesting if Mothman was avoidable. Because then, it would feel like my fault when I'm bit.
As it stands, I'm not even sure it's possible to get all 12 items. Because my losses feel arbitrary, I don't even feel like trying anymore.
There are several problems. Individually, they are miniscule and I would've ignored them. But together, they ruin the game's balance.
Less notably, I had some problems with game's feel (beyond the balance of Mothman.)
Thank you so much for your very detailed post and feedback.
It makes me really happy that you loved the game despite its glaring issues. All of your critisism is totally fair and I feel disappointed we had to release the game in the state it is in, because most of the problems boil down to us running out of time. We struggled hard to finish in time to release the game by the deadline, and couldn't playtest it enough for the problems to become apparent, or knew about them but just couldn't fix them all.
I learned a lot about scope during this Jam, and will make sure to take that into consideration for future projects, I really wish we could've released the game in a more balanced/polished state. We definitely plan to fix all the bugs / balance issues and release a new version after the Jam is over, I'd be really happy if you'd try it again once we're finished with it!
Hey, I was the artist on this! Thank you so much for your helpful feedback. We're hoping to update the game once the voting period is over and fix the issues you mentioned with the gameplay, as well as add some other features that'll hopefully make it more balanced and fun to play. We'll definitely make sure to take your criticisms into account for that :^)
