This was amazing! Beautiful and fun, loved the stranger things vibe!
The voices were amazing and fun, overall this was incredible! Great job!
My only criticism is that its so short!!! I want more!!! :D
I did say it was short in the description! lol. Nah, I actually had a whole sequence planned where you don't get sucked up by the UFO... which I am coincidentally adding in now, so maybe a day or two after the jam ends I can update it with how I wanted the game to actually play. Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
A terrific VR experience, complete with interactable memorablia, voice performances, and a truly engaging cinematic VR sequence. The trees/wind FX are tremendously effective, and your animations flow well together. By having 'actors' in the piece, you propel the plot along in a way that exploration alone cannot, and it's all unified under a distinct style/presentation. Once it was clear I was to be abducted, I was sure to grab a couple of important pieces of media to take with me. Maybe I can barter them for some sort of Cocoon (or Close Encounters) arrangement? Congratulations, this is really top notch. My only quibble would be that I often clipped through the car's roof, so had to sit lower in my seat to maintain the effect, but that's really minor in the face of so many things that work really well together. Great work!
Thanks for the kind words! The aliens would definitely be interested in the magazines! I'm curious how you clipped through the car roof?! Even if your playspace was uncalibrated it should force your device at a height that is right inside the car if you were already seated or even if you were standing and playing. Hrmm... I'll have to look into that some more
Really cute little story, it was fun to just toss the brother's crap around the backseat. Fun story, and not what I was expecting. Here's my gameplay, if you're interested
hahaha so fun to see people play your game! There were some other things I wanted to have you interact with I didn't have time for, like the shifter and the keys for the car. Originally you were not supposed to get abducted either, I had a crawl experience planned after the girl got abducted and you were going to get hunted down by the aliens. I'm glad you enjoyed it!!!!
also no one seems to have picked up the magazines lol. I guess it's just an Easter egg for now then!
Au contraire. I found your Easter Egg, it was one of the two pieces I took with me getting abducted. ;)
Great looking game! Love the aesthetics! Nice work!
Thanks so much! I was hoping to add a lot more to make it more of a "game" rather than a short experience, maybe if we had two weeks!
My first thought seeing the intro was "I see we're coming in here with the big guns with some classic 80s/Stranger Things vibes". The music and cinematics were fantastic. I enjoyed the classic tropes of highschoolers cruising through the woods with the jock being brave and getting out of the car. I'm also a sucker for the logo on the back of the jersey!
Some notes: The audio balance could be a bit off in places. It's always hard to hammer that out in a week, but still great overall.
Thank you for such a great submission and your hard work!
oh the audio is off all over the place! Hahaha thanks for playing! The main culprit was the audio files themselves not having a unified db level across all the files. Some sounds we're loud, others too soft and the audio manager I was using was not being friendly with me so some sounds got dropped or repeated. Lost two days to audio mishaps for sure. No more audio managers for me in the future, I don't care how useful they are meant to be!
Now I know how it feels to be kidnapped by aliens.
It ran smoothly on my Quest 3 device. Also I love the 80s aesthetics 🤩
Thanks for playing! I'm glad the 80's rang true with so many people!
Been looking forward to playing this one and it didn't disappoint :) Looked great, had a real movie feel and a fantastic ending! Great job :)
Like others have said, plenty of scope to add to this - it seems like a great intro to something much bigger. I know there's not much in the way of a 'game' in there, but it's still a very enjoyable and immersive experience - loved it!
Also, I'm such an 80s guy, so there was an added bonus of having all the 80s movies in the back ;)
Thank you for the high praise! I'll need to learn your texturing techniques, I think it would lend well to this enclosed experience where everything is pretty close to the player. There was originally a more "game" like experience planned but I had to cut it due to scope. Did you pick up the magazines?
Very nice. I really enjoyed the experience. Cool ending - room to continue the story. I like it. Congratulations.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the ending! It was originally planned to be very different!
Wow, i hope that's the way movies are consumed in future. The ending is a nice cliffhanger, can't wait to see how it continues.
You did an awesome job transporting this mysterious atmosphere. It's really believe that you are sitting in this car (everything grabbable, seeing legs, brother is talking to you). Also great voice actors (are they AI?) and a fitting soundtrack.
All in all a great entry. Even though it was not really a "game", i enjoyed every second :-)
Yes the voices are all AI. If we had more time I would have liked to commission someone on fiverr to do the voices. Originally, it wasn't supposed to end the way it did, you were going to have an escape sequence where you had to drag yourself away... too ambitious for the time allowed so I had to reduce the scope! Thanks for playing!
Superb! I really like the 80s nostalgia trip. Very well executed short interactive narrative experience.
Thanks! I had more plans for the abduction sequence but I had so much trouble with the sounds and everything I had to keep it short!
