  • Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get past soldering the cables it seemed really buggy for me and when I got close the game had some tremendous lag. Looks like a great concept for a game and it looks really good but I couldn't play it!

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get past soldering the cables it seemed really buggy for me and when I got close the game had some tremendous lag.

Apologies it could just be me being dumb but I found it hard to know what to do!

It's a great concept for a game and it looks really good but I couldn't play it!

Developer

Sorry about the lag! We didn't have any time for optimizations, unfortunately. I posted a walkthrough on how to beat the puzzles (grab the sparky end, hold it to the plate, then solder), but glad you liked the look!

Jam Host(+1)

I'll definitely check out the walkthrough! I did try to grab the sparky boys but I couldn't pick them up? Maybe I was just being useless!

It's a really cool game idea though and the look and feel was great! My video on it should go out next week so you can see my perspective!

Interesting setting and a nice start to a game! It was really nice seeing an Unreal entry as well.

Things I Liked:

  • Visually this was nice, especially the lighting.
  • Some core mechanics were nice, even though they weren't too clear initially(I'm looking at you soldering gun!)

Some Notes:

  • I think this game could have greatly benefited from audio. I don't know if it wasn't working on mine, but I had zero audio.
  • It took me a bit to find the first sparking plugs. There wasn't anything that directed my attention that way.
  • Fading and loading the next scene would really help the transitions.

It was a great start! I think it just needed some audio and a few tweaks in terms of design and guiding the player.

Thanks for a great entry!

I wish I could say that the audio just wasn't working, but sadly there was next to none, we ran out of time (just the theme song, which my partner wrote/performed). Glad to see you liked it! This was our first foray into unreal, and we LOVED how it came out visually. I definitely wish we'd had more time to polish the gameplay!

One thing I forgot to mention! Make sure to play around with Unreal's anti-aliasing. Some of the edges of objects looked a bit choppy and could use some smoothing out. Besides that, the looks in Unreal are always... unreal! I'm going to bed now before I say any other dumb things.

Nice visual environment! Curiosity question: have you modelled it yourself or have you used an asset?

There is some flickering when using a VR device but this happens in many VR games.

The cables were quite difficult to grab but once I started grabbing the right part it became easier.

Overall good entry! 👏🏻

A great looking game and I liked the presentation :)

How was your experience recording the voice lines? I lost my voice during my only recording session. lol

Developer

Mine was definitely a lot less voice involved than yours was! It was more "I didn't hate that take enough to do it again" lmao. I'm not a *terrible* voice artist, tho my performance was better here (insert shameless plug)

I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to pickup the wires, then I watch the video and noticed you have to pickup the wires at the sparkly dangerous electricity spewing part to pick them up. hahaha. Maybe not the most intuitive place to pickup a dangerous live wire. But after watching the video, I was able to successfully beat the level!

I had hoped we would have had a glimpse of the creatures or some sounds from the creatures in the ship, that would have made it a proper heart pounding experience. Great job, just needed some more sounds!

Developer(+1)

shhh, all the best electricians know that grabbing it by the sparks is how you know the wire is working. You and me both on the sound! This is what I get for always putting sound design to the end of the priority queue...

PS, loved your game! I'll write up a proper review tomorrow but it was super cute. I cheered when the brother got abducted.

Yeah the horror game jam would have been the perfect time to link up with another team member who just focused on audio. I feel like those people always get the short end of the stick in most game jams but in this one I could really have used their help! I spent at least two days trying to get audio to cue up correctly and I still fudged a bunch of stuff. Audio is hard!

If you are ever in another jam and looking for an audio person feel free to hit me up on Discord: bumpobampo. Always down to jam and I love working on audio(and other stuff of course).  Your games have been great in the couple of jams we have both been in btw.
