Note: the hitbox is the feet. Might not be obvious, but it was to me.
Note: press down to Interact. I found out by chance.
Short, challenging, and fun take on Ice Climbers.
- A challenge that's more for advanced players, but still accessible to everyone. The hardcore players can even play for a high score by destroying precious platforms, which is a charming way of playing (even if I won't do it).
In that sense, I really like how the balance is made. It's kinda rare to see this kind of thing.
Also the tile sets and sprites are honestly pretty solid! And getting to the third level which is *outside*... After being in caves so far, seeing the landscape and sky was such a beautiful moment, I was moved. It looks gorgeous.
What does down interact to? Also I did found out that the hitbox was smaller than it looks way after playing the game lul.
You'll know when you reach the top.
I feel like I'm cheating by standing in place and basically touching the fairies but somehow not getting hit, yet it seems to be the only way to reasonably beat this game. Art is cute, gameplay is fun in a simple way. The game does feel a little lifeless-- like kasha.dev said, I think simple sound effects would've helped a lot with the overall feel. That said, I enjoyed my time with it.
In short, it's like vanilla ice cream-- simple and familiar, but also rather plain.
litango motscloud called. they want their "nobody tells you that you gotta press down to interact" back. COOL GAME THOUGH ! a wee bit difficult
Ah, Ice Climbers. It's probably the number one first party Nintendo NES game I never understood the appeal of. Unfortunately, I still don't understand the appeal, even after finishing this game.
It's not awful, by any means. I think it has more normal platformer controls than Ice Climbers, so it's more accessible. The challenge is good, but without a time limit, it's just a matter of being patient. Not very exciting. The scoring system is awful and you can't even see your score once you've finished the game.
With a few tweaks, it could probably be made into a decent game, so it's a start. I'd play a better version of this. I want to understand the appeal of Ice Climbers.
yeah, i probably would've tweaked it a little better if i had a little more time and i wasn't trying to cram everything in lol
Once I realised the fairies would fly over my head and I didn’t have to keep jumping over them, the game got a lot easier xD
Overall a simple concept but it works nicely, I used to play a ton of ice climbers when I was young. I think the pixel art is rather good too. The lack of music isn’t an issue but I think sound effects might have made a big difference to the game feel - always worth trying to squeeze them in last minute to a jam game!
I reached Alice but nothing happened and I wasn't sure if there was supposed to be an ending cutscene or credits. The game appears simple but the fairies and platforms are precisely placed to make it quite difficult. Minor variations keep ramping up the challenge at a good rate to keep it satisfying to make it higher. It is unfortunate the music didn't make it in time to enhance the experience.
strange, alice worked when i tested it
i need to look into that
I'm was pretty bad at it, so I wasn't able to get to the top :*(
Favorite Parts: It's Marisa with a little bit of Ice Climbers, and the thumbnail art it's pretty cool!
