Oh shot, is that a sentient Fumo?

I really like the idea of a battle happening on the beat of a song! Though I think the songs themselves were quite awful, no offense. I just can't word it another way. It's a rhythm game so I had high expectations for the music.

The in-battle dialogue mechanic is really interesting but I see it wasn't explored, probably time constraint?

Also I am quite weak in DDR-type games, just trying to mentally match the notes with what key input I should do is hard enough for me, so the horizontal chart scrolling against my fingers' disposition not matching the display makes it even harder. Though I think that's on me.

I am genuinely interested in a refined version of the game.
I featured this game in my Jam showcase video:

(Also does the illustration where Youmu and Reisen passionately kiss show up above a certain score? I can't tell for sure)

dude below me said note lane would have been nice vertical and that was basically the only problem i had. rotated my head 90 degrees because otherwise i was hitting nothing. but actually about the game: the art was very cool and even though i wasnt looking at them much because gaming, the fighting sprites at the top were a neat inclusion. fumo

i did not encounter a single conversation note past one in the tutorial and it seemed like the game ended abruptly after the first non-tutorial song so maybe my copy was being weird but still good rhythm vn

also blocking notes is a funny mechanic but since youmu is swording it makes sense

Yeah I agree with this critique, I should've put an option to flip the track and redesign the UI further to incentivize the player to view the characters more. Thank you for playing!

I really think if you wanted to go with a df jk layout, the scrolling note ui should've been vertical, otherwise it became hard and disorienting to read. The music doesn't exactly match up what you'd expect for a rhythm game so that's another small issue. That aside, I enjoyed the writing and the character art is nice.

Developer

Yeah sadly the music came in extremely late so there wasn't much time to make polished beatmaps. I still appreciate you playing the game!

Good art and story, but I find the gameplay a bit hard on my end and I did button mash my way through this game. I think it might be better if the notes are moving vertically instead as it aligns to how the keys are positioned on the keyboard, which can help for hand coordination. Anyway cool game, just wish there are more pick up lines which can really expand the narrative a bit.

I am very bad at rhythm games. I think the rows should be labelled with the key they correspond to, and I think controller compatibility should be considered if it doesnt have it already

My favorite part is where a deka Cirno fumo beats me up

Developer (1 edit)

Yeah I was concerned with the lack of track key labeling. Thanks for playing!

The story is quite a trip, and the art is... *chef's kiss*. I'm not very well-coordinated when it comes to mapping locations on the screen to my fingers across a different axis, so it was quite the challenge. It was fun though!

Love the story and great concept idea. But this game is hard even for the first level. I think i can do a lot better if i can set my own keys.  Maybe add a difficulty settings. I can only beat the level by spamming all the buttons lol. I think the characters while fighting kinda move out of place.

I'm gonna be honest, I like the concept a lot and the story is quite cool. I also loved those CGs of Reisen and Youmu, it looks absolutely precious!
BUT
The most important part of a rhythm game, is of course, the music, and I think, it just didn't land. I couldn't feel the beat, and I felt the control scheme kinda weird.
I would love to see this go on and become something else tho! Even if it's not Touhou related, I see potential on game like this

It appears this submission… does not exist? Tasukete, Eirin!
