Is this what they call a feedback loop?I'm under the impression it's filled to the brim with references, of course if I knew most of them I wouldn't even write that. Lovely infodumping indeed.
I haven't got much to say about this game, except... what exactly is the full game? Will it be the biggest infodump ever or does it have action in it?
I included this game in my Jam showcase video, though again there's not much for me to do in there. But the game's slow tempo is a vibe though.

Yup there's an absolute boatload of references in here! A bunch of them are pretty obscure, but some are pretty obvious
(copied from my response to create2019) The full game intends to have Buront go and find items and talk to other residents of Gensokyo, and he'll be able to help them with errands in exchange for more items, and he'll be able to craft some things too, and both help make the summer festival as much of a banger as possible and also get more stuff to talk to Rinnosuke about. The item infodump system is going to be more choice-based conversation style than the format of the discussion for items within Kourindo, and I'm considering giving it a sort of points-based system where your responses add to a point total that determines an ending
So no action necessarily (heaven knows YAIN taught me I'm no good at combat systems), so definitely leaning towards the biggest infodump ever. I'll probably put some puzzles in there too because why not
Thanks for including my game in your video! It makes me very happy to see
finally a game that perfectly captures me. I enjoy a game where 2 people had interesting conversation. This concept do run the risk of that it is heavily narrative reliant, but the writing is solid and funny at times that it is enjoyable, even if it is inspecting every item to look for dialogue. I do appreciate that you did put a brief introduction to burnout, although there are some FFXI slangs that he uses I do not understand, his dialogue are not to foreign to confuse anyone who do not know him. Also it in interesting to see a glimpse of what Rinnosuke's daily life is like. Great job.
Thank you, I'm very glad you like it! If I ever figure out how to do that thing where small text appears over certain terms, I'll definitely be utilising it for stuff Buront says
This is a very cozy game, and I like the chemistry between two infodump loving dorks. Also, learning about Buront is definitely a cool piece of Touhou's fan lore I didn't know much about.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
Gensokyo's two men deserve each other, even if one isn't canon :P
Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
Like others said, this was pretty relaxing to play; I like seeing how many references I could catch and all of Rinnosuke's explanations for items. Also Buront's entire existence, what a rabbit hole.
Been playing a lot of FFXIV lately too, so I also feel targeted by th- wait, I'm in the credits? I AM BEING TARGETED
(For real though, thanks for releasing this and I'll definitely return for the full game!)
You're being targeted for being a COOL PERSON!
Buront's existence is definitely a rabbit hole, and it's one that English-speaking fans can barely scratch. It fascinates me tbh how he was such a big thing in 2008-9 that he had an effect on canon material, but if you ask any fan nowadays if they know who he is, most people don't (and if they do, it shows how long they've been in the fandom)
It's too bad the IoYaY videos will probably never get translated. Unless I go learn Japanese................
I wasn't sold on the description, but I ended up liking it. Despite the game's instance that it wasn't the full game the devs envisioned, it felt complete. In fact, I think the game would have to be something more than just an infodump if it were to be longer, but that's just an opinion.
The writing did a good job of conveying a cozy and homey atmosphere, and it was fun to try to figure out all the references (I didn't do a particularly good job, but I got a handful). Maybe a bunch of us players should team up, and see if we can get most of them together? Even the 4th wall-breaking insistent that the game wasn't complete were fun, but I'd still advice against underselling your jam achievement like that.
Good game! I'm glad to have learned some obscure fandom lore.
ah, thank you! The full game intends to have Buront go and find items and talk to other residents of Gensokyo, and he'll be able to help them with errands in exchange for more items, and he'll be able to craft some things too, and both help make the summer festival as much of a banger as possible and also get more stuff to talk to Rinnosuke about. The item infodump system is going to be more choice-based conversation style than the format of the discussion for items within Kourindo, and I'm considering giving it a sort of points-based system where your responses add to a point total that determines an ending
I'm glad you enjoyed the references too! I worried some of them may be too obscure, but Kourindo is a shop of obscurities so it fits right in
I liked the chill atmosphere, relaxing music and I've always been too much into reading everything a game can give me so this is pretty much the perfect short game you can present to me. I'll be looking forward to more updates.
PD: I feel betrayed for not having the second option available when talking to Rinnosuke xDD
Heck yeah, glad you like it!
Kissing Rinnosuke will be in a future update! :D
So deep in lore, it's marinated not only in Touhou lore but also the lore of stuff I haven't got a clue about! (Okay, maybe I did know some of the manga/anime references.) The dialogue here, as long as it is, doesn't seem to have a specific direction, which is probably what makes it relaxing and low-stakes. Cool game.
Rinnosuke's got lore on everything, even if it's because he explained it to Sakuya so wrong she brought Patchouli herself out to Kourindo to correct him :P
I'm glad it's relaxing. Having a sorta aimless chatting simulator is nice to write
i know nothing about final fantasy eleven or fourteen or whatever rinnosuke's evil twin is BUT i greatly appreciate the chance to learn about this buront fellow which i did not immediately believe existed upon reading the thing in the menu but after finding a whole page on this man on the touhou wiki i have gained just a bit more stupidly obscure touhou knowledge.
also thank you for mentioning turtle head game i downloaded it months ago but forgot to play until rinnosuke brought it up
There's a lot of obscure Touhou lore from 2009-ish, it's fun to dig up and show off to people and have them not believe me until I go "no, really" and show them the Touhou Wiki pages
Hell yeah go play Turtle Head it's really good //totally not biased, nuh-uh
Thank you for having us on the team~ This game came out very cute so far!
Thanks for being so willing to help out! It really does mean a lot to me
I'm glad you like the game so far!
