Not a bad effort for a few hours, for sure!  All the systems in place work as well as you would expect, though admittedly without much flare or oomph.  The randomization of the runes falling caused me to have a full work area of runes by the end of the second order, but that's the nature of randomness lol.  Charming art, and the music wasn't half bad either.  Thanks for putting together a game for us all to play!

Developer

thanks a lot for the review and the nice words!!

randomness kills the fun when it’s too high, that’s a lesson I need to keep in mind haha

i think its neat :)
i like it, is it especially fun, sadly not, but for what it's worth and the time it was made it's very good
keep working on it, get a game loop, and you'd have a very polished game
the sounds are very nice, the visuals are neat and it doesn't make my sad laptop wince (unlike let the villain save the world that thing kills it)

with a little more effort could it be better, yeah but most things can. the idea is cool, it's neat, and i like it. What more can i say. also for the second order i got ~50 runes and i didn't get any of the right ones :(

Developer

yeah the random over 16 different runes is way too unfair XD in my original view I wanted to start with 1 kind of rune, 1 slot, then gradually increasing both until it reaches 16 kind of runes & 3 slots. Also, force the distribution so it doesn’t end up never giving you a specific tile too (so some kind of rubberbanding). Right now you need to be lucky and I since I’m not really lucky myself, I actually lost some time testing the game before releasing it XD

I will try to make a slightly better v1.1 with the issues ironed out!!

Thanks for the review <3

I liked the visuals and the sound effects! it's a bit hard to figure out the rune placement, but once I got it right, I could do the others with no major problems.

Developer

thanks for having tested it and the nice words :D

I shall make a v1.1 as soon as I can to iron out the issues!

I quite literally don't know what to do here, the matching runes never appear so I just have a stack of runes. When I do put a matchin rune in the green area, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENS, no signs that I got it right or anything. Meh.

Developer

I’m very sorry that it made you angry, I had barely the time to make the core loop.

If that was a good game I wouldn’t have to explain the following:

  • The green areas will match only after you leave them due to a bug. They require exactly the rune they demand and nothing else, not even your character on them.
    • Also you need to have them all checked at the same time
    • Additionally, the area of detection is too tight.
  • There are 16 kind of runes, and they were supposed to be 1 kind at first, then 2, and so on until you can have all 16 of them asked.
    • You were supposed to store the unused runes for later uses, as the game was supposed to give you exactly the runes it’s asking you to sort on the green slots.
    • (ironically I did lost some time when doing the final tests because the right kind wouldn’t pop at the end)
  • Also, the pink area needs to be cleared out to make a new rune appear - including you.
  • There are various bugs that makes the game even harder (y-sorting, picking up the wrong rune, etc) too.

Again, I didn’t have the time to make lots of thing smoother (I submitted it 59s before the deadline), I really wish I did, but I had personal things coming this week.

Last jam I didn’t submit anything because it wasn’t “exactly playable” and I was told it’s a waste so I submitted what I had this time.

Thanks for having given it a try in any case !!

Yeah, I know about the pink areas, the one thing that kinda made sense.

But those green areas are never checked, even when I put the right rune and get the character out of there.

I wasn't really angry about the game, just a bit confused, it's quite fun at start, but begins getting boring. If you try to improve the game after the jam, I'm sure you can make something good!

Developer

yeah I shall make a better v1.1 with the improved distribution, progression (1->16 runes, 1->3 slots), timer and all the necessary stuffs and bugfixes I scraped so at least it doesn’t leave people confused or frustrated XD
