I'm glad I got a chance to play and rate this just before the voting ended. I felt demented killing those poor little chicks, then when I came back here to leave a comment I saw the game's thumbnail and saw them skewered on the sword. What did chicks do to you!?
The visuals are great, the player felt good to control and move around. I was hoping the game would evolve into another phase, I thought for sure I'd face a boss after collecting enough souls, but for a jam game this was a good time and an awesome effort by a solo dev.
Great work.
I appreciate the kind words and feedback, and I'm glad you enjoyed!
On mention of the phase/boss/evolving topic, my original design intention was to just have the mama hen spawn as an actual boss fight , angered by the fate of her babies. However as the jam was nearing an end, I ran out of time and decided to just implement her as a constant hazard. More hens spawn in the lil chambers as you collect more souls, (up to 6 total), so I was happy to atleast have that difficulty ramp and gameplay evolution with what little time I had. I think the phrase I hear more in jams than anywhere else goes something like "I didn't have enough time". All in all I enjoyed making it, and people enjoyed playing it, I'm just glad to be here lol.
The art is adorable. The baby chickens look too cute and I felt really bad for taking mama's babies lol. Nice job!
Good game. Minor issues with getting stuck with a chicken inside a table (not a very usual problem to have :)) but other than that enjoyable.
Neat little game, but jesus my eardrums must have exploded when I first started... i can still hear little chickens even after playing.
The game might need little polishing with movement and hit boxes (and sound) but the art assets are great :)
Is there anything supposed to happen when you've got all of the souls?
After you get a certain amount of souls the chicks and chickens will all respawn and the difficulty ramps. It's basically just a highscore game without any actual highscore system tbh. Highest I've seen was 160ish.
I was only able to have one person even playtest the game before submission and it was on my own PC so I was unaware of the audio issues everybody mentions. Hopefully I'll be able to have more playtesters on my next project. Appreciate the feedback!
wasnt quite sure how you implemented the theme and requirment also the mechanics werent very good
To fit the theme you're constantly on the edge of death, and youre doing the bidding of your new cat boss to fit the requirement. Appreciate the feedback though lol.
The art looks great! And working for a cat boss was a cute idea!
Proving once and for all who wins in the forever war of cats vs dogs
Rip to the baby chicks, Really liked the lowpoly style models and textures.
Great models and cute animations on the chickens. I felt like a jerk for slaughtering baby chicks though :P Also, some sound wouldn't stop playing and started driving me insane, but overall you can tell you put a lot of work into it, good job.
Appreciate the feedback. This is actually the first time I've gotten audio to even work for me in Unity so I'm not surprised it broke haha.
The Game Is Fun, Not Being Able To Mute The Music Is Kinda Bad, I Love Everything Else About This Game, Else The The Little Chickens Hit Boxes! Hope You Contine Making Game, And Make Em Bigger!¨
Neat game. Follows the theme well. I had fun with it, but the sound of the chickens going off throughout did get a little jarring on the ears. Also a little bit bigger hit boxes on the chicks would've been nice. But other than that fun game. I enjoyed my time with it.
