How does your game apply the limitation (and optionally, the theme)?
I lost one weekend looking for a good idea. That I just took the theme very literally. It has an edge and a boss fight, that's all :)

My first impression was moving to the left, grinning at the derpy walk cycle, and then chuckling as the game politely informed me that I couldn't move left. It's a good first impression. The game benefits from its goofy tone—set by the art, the music, the writing, and the sudden unexpected gun—and I wish the boss leaned into that goofiness too.
Especially since I didn't find the boss very mechanically satisfying. That might partly be because I don't play many action games, but the fact that you need to jump over and between projectiles with such imprecise controls (e.g. the non-variable jump) means it probably isn't just me. Maybe an action gamer could identify more issues, but...that's what I've got.
Also: The music stops and doesn't restart if you jump over the edge. This was extremely disappointing—on a repeat run and without the goofy music, the tone doesn't hold together quite as well.
cool game took me a minute to figure out how to get to the boss lmao but i got it after
I loved the graphics! The boss fight was pretty fun, as well. The only thing I would ask for is maybe some variable jumping. It's nice to hold the jump button to jump a little higher and it would be cool to do short hops over some of the incoming bullets. Great work!
Hey WhumpbackHale,
Thanks for the comment :)
I had this variable jumping high in plan, but that focused on other things. Maybe there will be an update.
I love this game! I knew there was a way to get the boss fight. Well done
Thanks :) I guess the most people jump over the edge and ain't try to go back xD
But the game is designed to be played more than 1 time to figure out, what to do ;)
This is hilarious! I love the small details like the grass and calling you out for falling off the cliff. I also think pulling a gun randomly into a boss fight was great! Good job!
Thanks a lot Drums :)
The grass is also one of my favorite things about the game. It's just fun to play around with the Animator.
I really appreciate that you took the time to set up the gags in the beginning. I enjoyed the bits and laughed at the final reveal. Great stuff there. But after I died on my first boss encounter ... it felt tedious to go through it again. I would have a checkpoint so the boss battle begins again.
Being able to shoot and chip away at the boss projectiles is a nice touch and it made me more conscious of placing my shots. The simple art is cute and nice, and I dig that you even put some great effects on the boss's death animation. A relax score was a great take on a game ending.
This was a nice length and scope, easy to pickup and play jam game. Well done.
Thanks for the feedback!
I originally planned to change the game every time you die (if you fall in the pit, there will be a bridge) (get killed by the boss, you can shoot 2 bullets next time)
To have a checkpoint is also a good idea. In combination with the narrativ gameplay, it could be like: "oh, you died again... you know what, just respawn here and try again".
But this was way to much for this little project.
Yeah, the relax score is also nice, but is it really the ending??? ;)
Audio broke
after Ijumped off the edgeafter my first playthrough but other than that I feel this is quite the valiant effort for a jam game.Hey Banana Jelly,
yeah, I know about the broken audio. It's because I reload the scene but currently idk how to fix it :|
Understandable, I couldn't even get audio to work in any of my projects up until now lol. Mine is pretty broken too.
Congrats on the jam! Just reviewed your game :)
It was a little while before I realized how to progress to the boss fight.
I really liked the grass visual and reactoin to player's jump, how did you do it?
Hey Danielfib,
thanks for the comment :)
The gras is just a simple sprite with a collision box set to trigger. When the player enters, it plays an animation (animator -> rotation). I than just copied it a few times :)
