Nice Job! Love the gesture regcognition stuff! It's a useful mechanic.

I'm trying to do something similar in a game I'm working on. Just curious if you're using some sort of asset or library to accomplish that, or if that's code you wrote yourself? Again great job!

Developer

Hey, thanks for trying out the game! The gesture recognistion was something I coded from scratch during the jam, it's defeinitely got room for improvement but it seems to work pretty nicely for some people/headsets at least :)

Thanks. I was just curious. But oh man, that's really impressive doing gesture recognition from scratch in a game jam, and then doing a game on top of that! Wow! Good luck with all your other projects. Cheers!

The spell system mechanic was really cool! However I found it a little too hard... Not sure where I was messing up on it, but I wish the error tolerance for each spell was higher, as I felt like I was getting the spell cast, but the game would tell me it wasn't good enough. My height was also way off - I was about 1.5x taller than everyone there... Just something to look into if you keep working on it :)

Overall, neat game!

Thanks for the feedback! I saw from the organizers streaming it that some people have that extra height issue and a way harder time getting the spells accepted. I'm not sure if it's something to do with the Quest vs Rift (since I developed on the Rift) or what, but it's something I'll be investigating in the future. Glad you liked it!

I tried the build on oculus 2 but it would just open in window mode, couldn't play in vr. you might have not enabled oculusfor android in the XR settings

Ah heck, sorry to hear that! This is my first VR game so I'm still very new to the setup. I've posted a playthrough video on the game page so you can check that out of you're curious. Thanks for trying anyway :)

Your game has an amazing concept! you should really make it complete and publish it.

Also gesture recognition worked really well for me! I think you can re-use it in many VR games, e.g. wielding magic spells based on gestures :)

Thanks so much! That's pretty much my plan, so I appreciate the encouragement :)

I really loved the Gesture Recognition mechanic. It has really lot lot of potential in VR games, also you used it with a cool gameplay! I enjoied it a lot!

Thanks so much! It was a lot of work over the weekend and I know it can still be improved, but I want to use it in a full game so I used this jam as an opportunity to prototype the mechanic. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the game 😊

I remember times ago that Valem did more or less a tutorial on a similar feature.

You use his base or you started from zero!

Also can it be used for the hand tracking? Because if I can use it for hand tracking I would really like to learn how to do it for my job!

Developer

I started the system from scratch during the jam, so what you see in the gme is all it can handle (at least for now)!

On my quest it was launching on a 2D window so I couldn't interact with it :/ Well at least I can say that the music is fun! But not much more halas ^^'

Developer

Oh no, sorry to hear that! I have no idea how to fix that, I don't have a Quest I can test with :(
I've uploaded a full playthrough video if you're curious to see the game though.

"I wuv you pumkin pie" xD
The video is a good idea, that was really nice! And funny :p How do you check if the pattern is correct? With a range of colliders that you must trigger in the right order maybe? But it would have problems when the pattern cross itself, like in the fire pattern, so you didn't do that solution 🤔 Maybe checking if the position of the hand is close enough of one of the pattern point every frame?

Hey,

Amazing game with good visuals and sound. I felt my height was a bit more than it should have had. ( Tip: use the floor tracking option in case you had not used that).

I found it slightly hard to match the gestures, but overall it was a good experience. I had fun playing it.

Developer

Thanks pal! I'm a VR noob so I definitely just made it to fit my height (5'9"= 175cm), thanks for the tip :D

Some good gags, had to chuckle on the computer games.

Would be nice if the reference was a little further forward, but that is a very minor thing. I had fun playing.

Good job

Thanks so much! <3

This is great, some very nice puzzles! I was especially impressed when my none gamer gf solved the "organize game" puzzle before I did, almost immediately, in fact!

I did have some trouble matching the gestures even when they are visually overlapping with the spell guide, but overall it was really fun!

I got through the first two people. But wasn't sure how to get through 3rd. Cool game.

Thanks! A hint for the third guy is he want to know what planet you're on (only one of the 4 basic elements shares a name with a planet hint hint)

I was thinking of doing something like this a while ago but I never got around to doing it. Congrats on finishing your game on time for the jam!
