a little difficult to play and understand but it's a good game, just requires a little bit of polish.

Here's my game if you want to check it out.

Developer

Thanks for playing my game... I agree that it needs more polish and some balancing...

I'll check your game later... =)

Submitted

Well you didn't have to put the words of understanding !
I mean, first game jam, 24 hours, really ? that's neat for 24 hours !
I had fun playing it, not always easy to understand (I actually typed a bit whatever I wanted on the screen to gain point I didn't understand what i had to type xD) but still, you deserve my stars !

Developer

Thanks for appreciating the game and your understanding (and for reading the notes I left, it made me very happy)

Honestly I wrote them because, being this my first game jam, I didn't know what to expect, nor what kind of comunity there would have been, and knowing the internet only like a place for memes and insults, I would never have expected such an open community with new users, like it is in the end...

As for the problems of understanding, you were not the only one to point this out to me, I REALLY badly communicated what should be done and what the final purpose was ... I hope to improve in the future on this aspect...

Stars??? What stars??? There are stars???

Submitted

Not exactly my type of game but it seems to work well.

Also, I seem to be bad at clicking on fast moving blocks and it sometimes felt like it didn't register properly

Developer

I think that it's my fault for making the viruses so annoyngly fast... That's strange btw that didn't register properly your input, i'm sorry for that...

Submitted

could just be me being to slow. Like I said, I had trouble keeping up anyway.

If I am the only one who felt clicks where missing it was probably my own fault :P

Submitted

nicly done ;-)

Developer

Thanks!!! =D

Very interesting game! I enjoy it!

(:D Could you rate my game? https://itch.io/jam/wowie-jam-2/rate/552654 )

Developer

Thanks for enjoying my game!!!

Of course i'll do that!!! =D

Host

Wow. Considering this is your first game jam entry ever (and maybe even your first game ever(?)) this is really well done. I haven't really found a skilling strategy that works yet but I assume it exists so quite a nice little optimization game that challenges you to understand the system and find a solution. Really good idea with a nice an simple design. Took me a while to figure out that the squares are viruses... xD

Developer

First of all, a big THANK YOU for playing my game, honestly I never thought you would ever notice my game, let alone play it. You made my day...

[BORING BACKSTORY START]
Yes, this was my first game ever (but perhaps you don't know that this game was created in just 24 hours...). For a few months I had proposed to myself to participate in a game jam, to learn how to make games, and when you posted the video on youtube about this game jam, at which point I said to myself "Why not try?": Needless to say, I wasn't wrong in participating and I had a lot of fun doing it, although it was true that at the beginning I was a little hesitant... Above all I did not expect a community so open to new users...
[BORING BACKSTORY END]

I made a lot of mistakes in the production of this game (mainly it was not explaining well what had to be done and what was the final goalof the game and that BORING music), and I know that the game must be balanced and polished. I hope i'll do better in my next games...

If you want an easy win, try to buy only the keyboard upgrade (the first one). If you want some challenge try to buy also the CPU upgrades (the second and the third ones). The others are fine too, but I find it is a bit TOO difficult to win with the others... with all 6 it is directly impossible, i honestly don't think you can win with more than 3 types of upgrades at a time... (but this is a good thing, in my opinion, so that the player is not only buying random updates, but he must also use a bit of strategy, all emphasized by the fact that the costs of the upgrades increase all together)

And once again, thank you for playing my game, you made me really happy = D

(Wow, I wrote such a poem... Sorry for the long comment... Apparently I had a lot to say...)

Host

Haha. Nice. Glad you enjoyed the jam. You seem to learn quickly so I'm sure you will do even better next time. :)

Interesting concept for a game. I also started my game evelopment adventure with some clickers. I dodin't quite overflow the system but I as a "pro keyboard smasher" I defenetly enjoted it :)

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed my game... =D

Good job on your first game!! Really fun and creative idea, I enjoyed mashing my keyboard haha.

Developer

Thanks!!! =D

Developer

Guys, if you have not already done so, i suggest to go and play this masterpiece. It uses the same concept that I use (the overflow, precisely), but with a totally different use and context.

Here is the link: https://itch.io/jam/wowie-jam-2/rate/552987 (btw, It's allowed to share other's people games?? If not tell me and i will delete this comment)

nice work! Great job on making your first game jam project

Developer

Thanks!!! =)

Cool concept I had fun mashing my keyboard haha.  I got to 3 colored boxes.  Great job submitting your first jam game~ Please check out my browser game when you can

Developer(+1)

Thanks for enjoying my little game!!! Unfortunally, and i know well that I have not done a good job making it clear, those color boxes (or as I like to call them to me, virus) you have to chlick him away with your mouse because they actually made you lose points.

Don't worry, I always play the games of those who played mine =)

explaining the goal up front would have been helpful… it wasn’t clear what the goal was other then spending lots of points to upgrade various things (most of which probably are not worth spending points on… beyond typing speed multiplier)

Developer

I known i don't have dove a good gob to specify the goal, nor balancing the different types of upgrades, and i'm truly sorry for that... I hope to improve in my next games...

In short, the goal is to reach the overflow (I assumed the title was enough to explain). See others comment below if you want a more accurate explanation.

For the upgrades, unfortunately, I can't do anything to solve the problem. If you want a greater challenge, try to complete the game without counting only on the typing speed upgrade.

Submitted

Bravo à toi c'était original !

Cependant maintenant mon clavier doit me détester lol

Developer

I'm sorry for your keyboard, man XD (but i'm glad you enjoyed the game)

Submitted

Okay, so this is how the game works:

  1. Randomly press keys on your keyboard (the game does remember which one you pressed last, so mix it up)
  2. Now the binairy number in the bottom left increases
  3. Spent the point on the upgrades
  4. Click away the bouncing blocks, they decrease the binairy number
  5. Get annoyed by the gameplay and the repetitive music
  6. Continue until the value reaches 1111....1111, then press once more and the value overflows back to zero's
Developer

There are no better words to describe it...

Submitted

Not sure what to do. But Creative. https://itch.io/jam/wowie-jam-2/rate/551879

Developer (1 edit)

The goal is to reach the overflow  (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integer_overflow if you don't know what overflow is).

Press button to increment your score, with which you can unlock upgrades ,which will make you get even better score to unlock more upgrades...  get the point...

I'm in my way to play your game...

k thx

this is such a unique game! i love the concept, though it was a bit confusing to me (at first). super impressive that you did this in such a short amount of time. i'm looking forward to more of your stuff!

Developer

I'm happy to hear it!! Can i ask which part of the game or what confused you??

Submitted

i didn't know what to do ! haha. just the onset was difficult until i started buttonmashing my keyboard and then things started happening. given — i'm not much of a coder so maybe it was less intuitive for me

Developer

Ah, i didn't do a good job of saying what should be done. I thought writing "write some code (not really)" was enough to make others think it was necessary to write. It was not

Submitted

i got there eventually! haha

Submitted

Cool idea, cool game, but i the antivirus was a bit to annoying for me ;D

Developer

I see that viruses have done a great job being annoying... =P

Just kidding: It was my intention to make them annoying, but not like that. I agree that they came out TOO annoying...

Submitted

Hi very good idea, but need more gameplay and polish.

Good job!

Developer

Hi, sorry for game  polish, i didn't have much time to make the game...

Thank you for the review!!!

Submitted

The game was okay , i love the concept behind but it get very repetitive quickly , maybe some more juice and making the music less repetitive could have been great , but that's very impressive for a 24hours game

Developer

I'll try to improve my musician skills in the future!!

Incrementing cost of all upgrades doesn't seem like a good idea.

Developer (1 edit)

For me, increasing the cost of all upgrades seemed like a good idea, because in this way the player would not have bought only the least expensive upgrade mindlessly, but he would buy the upgrade that he thinks is the most useful to achieve the overflow; but I can understand why you don't like the idea... :(
