Hi friend! Yes, nina's art is super nice, and thank you for your lovely words!
We wanted to explain a bit more about how the Sanity mechanic worked, but in the end we didn't manage to add some helper text :( one for a future build for sure!
The way it works is Sanity drops constantly when you switch to the "cursed" dimension (the green one), so that was intended behaviour! It also drops when you get too close to the monstrosities around the labyrinth lol
Glad you enjoyed the bits that you played though! Will check out your game when I can!
What a lovely little experience. I haven't played multiple times to experiment with different endings and such (I'm sure something happens if you let the second character break the glass...), but in general it left me with a sense of... peace. Like the calm before the storm, indeed.
I was expecting to see the actual "storm" at some point, and that took me by surprise when it didn't happen, but then it hit me: this is a moment frozen in time, a little chance to capture an interaction in the middle of a crisis, and to see how two people find their lingering hope together.
Loved it, in all its graceful simplicity.
This is easily my favourite game out of all the ones I played for this jam. Impressed with the visuals, the characters are so cute, and the eldritch horror creatures are stunning as well. In general I think it was a nice take on the theme, also with a bit of Lethal Company sprinkled here and there (the research quota! Nice idea!)
I was really impressed to see this game after just a week of development, really cool and fun, and definitely something that I think should be expanded into a bigger concept!
Also I love Lovecraft sooooo I might be a bit biased here :P
I liked the idea of using grapples to manipulate positions and enemies! In general it was really well built and fun to play. I did think the interface was just a little bit cluttered though - I think it would have benefitted from having some elements hide contextually, or maybe made subtler somehow. Overall a lovely and fun experience, and I loved the challenge too!
To think that the roll almost didn't make it in the game! 🤣
Thank you friend! I didn't think about optimising for 4K, we always played it windowed in 4:3 format because we designed it that way 🥲 should have put some constraints in place for sure!!!
Thank you so much for checking it out though, will try out yours as well!
Thanks a MILLION for your lovely words Dan! I definitely noticed the issue with the timer not pausing at one point, and we didn't quite manage to adjust it, so in the end it stayed as a "feature" - but I'm aware it results in a lot of people simply skipping through dialogue, 60s are pretty tight! I could have adjusted the timer by 20% or so to make up for it, but hey - learning experience I guess 🫠
Can't wait to check out your game as well!
Hey georgia, game's writer and lead game designer here! This comment made my day - really. I pretty much showed it to everybody at work lol
I don't want to take all the credit for it of course (I know you weren't saying that!), this game wouldn't have existed without Nina's amazing art, Matt's mindblowing music, and Siq's otherworldly programming skills. I'm so happy you enjoyed it and took the time to leave a comment, thank you SO much for your lovely words!
I'm definitely going to try your game as well!
Thank you friend 🥺 it means a lot, and glad the writing resonated with you! Yes, fully aware of the fullscreen AND the timer not freezing mechanic - unfortunately we didn't have time towards the end to make it freeze while reading, but it was on our mind and something that ideally we would have loved to implement :(
Still glad you liked the character designs as well, agree they're lovely and Nina did an amazing job!
I can't even begin to express how much I enjoyed working on this little game with you, Nina! Your art was always top notch, you clearly bought in on a shared vision, and to finally see two of the many silly characters in my head turn to life was a life-changing experience for this writer right here.
I hope we get to make another game together soon. Cherish this memory, like Riven with Alba's! ;)
Hi everyone 👋 I'm a writer and narrative designer who got a little bit more serious about programming and game dev over the past year. This will be my second game jam, but my first one as a full-on programmer - and I'd like to use Godot for this, as I'm learning the engine these days! I'm looking for a 2D artist to join me for the game jam, but I can try to tackle 3D as well - I just tend to enjoy 2D a bit more.
What I can do:
- Programming in GDScript or C#
- Writing
- Game design
- Collaboration on music (I'm a former musician as well)
What I can't do for lack of time:
- Art & animation (either 2D or 3D)
- Music composition
- Sound design
What I'm looking for:
- Someone to help with art (primarily) and with music and sound design (potentially)
- Someone at their first game jam experiences, willing to team up for a fun week together
- Someone who cares about making a good game, but whose main goal is learning and having fun on the game jam
- Someone interested in learning Godot together
What I offer:
- The experience of a professional writer who cares about telling a cool story!
- The experience of a self-taught but certified software developer who's created a few games and apps before
- Some experience with the Godot engine (still learning - happy to switch to Unity, which I know a bit better, if you really want to work together!)
- Part-time hours (UK evenings) for the duration of the game jam - I have a day job :(
- Much warmth, words of encouragement, and loads of love!
Hit me up either with a comment here or on Discord if you want to chat, I'm mrwolf_95 over there!
