How does your game fit the theme?
The game includes a timer mechanic that makes the experience more challenging when time runs out. The theme of the story is also about acceptance, loss, and cherished memories, and the game is a slow build-up towards a powerful reveal moment in the ending. Plus, there's an actual storm that breaks out when the timer is exhausted, for flavour! :) (But also for narrative purposes!)

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Every line of code, asset, music track, sound effect, animation and more has been made entirely from scratch by the team. No third-party assets or code were used!

some of the most beautiful storytelling i've seen within this jam, definitely a hidden gem amongst everything else! the visuals are great as well, it truly does add to the experience. thanks so much for sharing this game, one of my favourites for sure!

Hey georgia, game's writer and lead game designer here! This comment made my day - really. I pretty much showed it to everybody at work lol

I don't want to take all the credit for it of course (I know you weren't saying that!), this game wouldn't have existed without Nina's amazing art, Matt's mindblowing music, and Siq's otherworldly programming skills. I'm so happy you enjoyed it and took the time to leave a comment, thank you SO much for your lovely words!

I'm definitely going to try your game as well!

what a beautiful game!! I love Alba. Just the right length, I felt pain when I had to go back a long distance to the last cheeckpoint, which put the pressure on even harder. I think it would be nice if the timer paused while dialog was up, although maybe this was a design choice? Either make it there in time and skip a bunch of dialog, or listen to your friend :')

Developer(+1)

Thanks a MILLION for your lovely words Dan! I definitely noticed the issue with the timer not pausing at one point, and we didn't quite manage to adjust it, so in the end it stayed as a "feature" - but I'm aware it results in a lot of people simply skipping through dialogue, 60s are pretty tight! I could have adjusted the timer by 20% or so to make up for it, but hey - learning experience I guess 🫠

Can't wait to check out your game as well!

I loved how cute characters and environment looks had some fun jumping around. Had stuck in some part of the level after rolling and sometimes dialogue box blocked the way visually but still that cool game loved it!<33

Developer(+1)

Thank you friend 🥹 glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I've heard about the dialogue box blocking the way - didn't think it would be an issue honestly! Lesson learned 🥲 can't wait to try out yours!

I enjoyed this one! I lost a little bit of immersion because full screen on my 4K monitor was making the game look weird. Parallax stuff was flickering etc...  Here's a screenshot of how I was seeing

But other than that, it was enjoyable! Especially the roll animation! Haven't seen a better reuse of animation! Thanks for the entry!

Developer(+1)

To think that the roll almost didn't make it in the game! 🤣

Thank you friend! I didn't think about optimising for 4K, we always played it windowed in 4:3 format because we designed it that way 🥲 should have put some constraints in place for sure!!!

Thank you so much for checking it out though, will try out yours as well!

This was really good! The writing was on point, the art and animation was amazing, and the music really fit with the game. Great job everyone!

Developer

Thank you 😭 the team was honestly incredible, I hope to do another jam with them at some point!

Fantastic art!  I didn't realize you could walk through spikes when they weren't lit.  I wish there was a system for getting your ghost back.

The vines mechanic should have been explained / introduced a bit better, totally agree! Perhaps in a full game there might be a way to bring back Alba temporarily, good point - I felt that here it served the story *not* to have her and lose her forever instead 🥲

It is really a nice game to play. Like the art stile and the music. Did not expect the ending. Love it!!

Developer

thank you thank you! i’m glad you enjoyed it <3

I liked the story and art style, but the game was very broken. Time ran out and I just kept going. I was getting stuck and frozen all the time.

Developer

when the timer runs out you lose alba, you don’t die yourself! you have to navigate the world without alba who gives you double jump and glide capabilities. about the getting stuck and frozen all the time; i have no idea what happened there.

Cool game! Riven is very cute and the story between Alba and Riven is well done. The music was a good ambiance and I liked the wind on the beach.

I ran into a couple bugs where Riven would get "stuck" in different states, usually around when dialogs ended. Like if I was rolling and a dialog started I would be stuck in the roll.

I also really liked the portraits in the background of the house area, that was a nice touch.

Thanks for making this!

Developer

Nina's art and Matt's music really added LOADS to the experience! Thanks friend, and noted on the bugs you encountered - interesting about getting stuck, I never found that 🫠 worth looking into if we ever expand the game!

this was really lovely. writing was great and i really like the character designs. i only wish i could make it fullscreen so the text was easier to read :) and maybe also that the timer paused when ur reading so it feels less rushed. thanks for sharing this <3

Developer

Thank you friend 🥺 it means a lot, and glad the writing resonated with you! Yes, fully aware of the fullscreen AND the timer not freezing mechanic - unfortunately we didn't have time towards the end to make it freeze while reading, but it was on our mind and something that ideally we would have loved to implement :(

Still glad you liked the character designs as well, agree they're lovely and Nina did an amazing job!

Very interesting game! The art is especially beautiful! Well done!

Developer(+1)

thank you thank you! ^^ it was a lot packed into one week, all the art i managed to make just in this week so it was a really fun experience trying to cram as much art in as my hands and brain could muster. I'm glad you liked it, good team makes good stuff

Developer(+1)

Huge kudos to Nina for that, she did an AWESOME job!!! Thanks for your comment friend 🥹

Really nice game! I love the artstyle and the music. I didnt have time to play the whole game yet, so i propably missed some content, and didnt fully understand the implementation of the theme.

Developer

thank you! hopefully you get to play the whole game, it has a whole story! thanks for giving it a look <3

Developer

Thank you friend! I loved working with Nina's art and Matt's music, you're right, they went incredibly hard 😱 you're onto something though in that the theme does become clearer as you go, but I'm sure you'll return to it if you ever get the time! Thanks for your comment 🥹
