Such a nice idea and so well made! :) I like the setting, the art, the sound, the puzzles and the design! Juan is cool! Love the OH YEAH! :D Feels good!

Thank you for being so informative! Getting a glimpse at all the different workflows and possibilities is really interesting and broadens my horizon so much! :)

Really beautiful art, the simplicity is on the point! Great choice of font as well (there is a lack in this so often). I love what you wrote about the sound design in the art thread as well.

For game design I struggle with the mentioned slipperiness also. And I am not sure if the time limit is really needed since the limited usage was already hard enough for me to complete the levels. Maybe this could be the hardcore mode? ;)

I guess after a bit of polishing with the gameplay you'll have a pretty decent perfect game! Looking forward to this!

Nice job! It feels really smooth! :D Liked playing it! Also nice pixel art!

This is quite a good idea! Just get rid of all those annoying limbs! Blobs ftw (yours are especially cute)! ;D

Did you use the draw while animate part of game maker studio 2? I think this feature is soooo cooool but I find it so hard to use!

Yeah I figured out that working on background and character art simultaneously makes quite sense - or at least setting yourself a colour code for everything and see how it machtes/contrasts before you start making the actual art. :)

I build both my background and character and items next to each other and always put them on the background to see if the contrast was enough and if the colours matched!

Waaah thanks! This is so informative and helpful! :D

Love the donkey kong take on game art! I guess this is a really nice compromise when it comes to 2D/3D game art (and like I said in the cute character thread, I think your dog is really cute :D).

Could you explain which programs you used and how your workflow looked whilst creating the art?  This would be awesome. :)

This looks nice! I like the space surfer idea (I guess everyone would love to surfe in space ;) !

Can you explain to the game art noob that I am what programs you used? How long did it take you to create the art?

Only one earthers unite! :D

Nice to see that other people care aswell! <3

Like your intake on the matter. I believe with a bit more explanation and artwork (for the different thinks you build on the earth) this could be a really interesting and up to date game. :)

Wow! Nicely done! :) We actually discussed a similar idea but were afraid of it being to difficult to make! I really like the way you solved it. Also the spinning level is nice, but way to difficult for me. :D Also nice colours and soundtrack!

I looooove pixel art and wanted to make some, but oh my! I think it is waaaay more difficult than regular vector graphics or just painting something nice. I have the feeling that every pixel counts and every pixel needs to sit perfectly.

Nice idea! I would love to keep on practicing and do some art! :)

Just wow at the art. Also the music is really relaxing and chill. But I guess something which would complement the beat rhythm would have been a bit more fitting.
I'm looking forward to play an updated version of this!
(I solved the first lvl by just falling down of a platform. ;)

The gameplay feels really nice and I like the art and music! :) Would be really fun as a minigame with friends!

Love the idea. You rarely now how a video game world really *feels* since you mostly get to know a the visually and audio side. :D Would love to see this idea made into something bigger!

Super nice art style and idea, I like the setting and switching between the two dimensions. :)
Since you have kind of a time limit I maybe would not have made the lowest level/ground game over. Oh and the intro skipped way to fast, I could not read everything.

I'm looking forward to see more of you/progress on this project! :D

Ah, I fell for it a few times before I realised how it works. Good job!!! :D

I would love to see that!  Mansharkball go! :D

I love the simple design and the proportions. :)

Aaah sooo many nice sources, I definitely will check out all of them. The animator's survival kit was already recommended to me by a friend. You mentioned the book - I just saw they have an app for Ipad - do you know this as well? If yes - what would you recommend? :)

Is this a walking ball shark? I heard you rarely can find them outside of the depth of oceans. :O

Thanks! :D My brother/developer was constantly complaining about the colours because he thought they were not bright enough. I can only imagine what real life game artists struggle with in everday life. ;)

Hey, thanks for the really useful feedback! Especially about communicating the way the waste-cycle works.

Yeah we realised the camping failure after uploading the game - this is something we will definitely change  when we update the game. Also make everything a bit faster and more difficult - it does not feel the way we want to feel it yet! :)

(1 edit)

I like the fact that we can hear your sister screaming XD Personally I have no clue about audio - my brother is a musician as well so he did all of the music stuff. :)

Yep here! First ever game and game jam for me and my brother! Boy did we learn a lot and boy do we have to learn a lot. ;) We could have really used a third person that would have concentrated on testing and game play - I really like our idea and setting aaand the game works, but it is not yet that much fun to play...and yeah I guess this actually is what games are all about. :) but I'm pretty sure if we add some things here and there, it acutally could be kinda cool!

But it was so much fun! Looking forward to make something like this again asap! I highly motivated right now!

So...is he his own house or can you live inside him? so many questions :D

Glowing rocky dogs? I want one as pet! :D I bet he is nice and cooling in summer!

Aw, this is really cute - I definitely have to check your game out when I'm at home! Love the coloures, the lanterns and the background aswell! :)

I li ke my zombie, I think she is rather cute in her own way ;)

Hello everyone,

GMTK gamejam 2019 was my first gamejam as artist and will definitely not be the last! :)

I usually work as fashion designer so there were many first times for me whilest creating the art. I made the illustrations with illustrator and my first walkcycle ever with duik bassel and adobe after effects.

So I am preeetty curious about what all of the other artists learned during this jam, what you guys used and if you have some tutorials that helped you getting into animation, game art and stuff like that.

I myself had serious troubles with creating a walk cycle that does not go kinda vertically but direct to the front. Also exporting my opening in a size that fits good to unity was a trouble - it ended up rather pixelated anyway. ;)

And I am looking for feedback as well! So here is our jam  - art by me and design/programming by my brother - topic is only one earth with only one way usage items - so you have to survive while avoid drowning in your own plastic waste in the same time. ;)
