When you download the game, there should be 2 folders, one for the client and the other for the server. You must configure and run the server version of the game (I made a tutorial video on how to do all of that) first. If you want to connect to your own server, then open up the client application/version of the game, and in the input field where you put in the server's IP, just type "localhost". If you want other people on your same network/WIFI to connect, you must find out your private IP address (if you are on windows, you can do so by typing in "ipconfig" into command prompt and looking for the IPv4 address column, and tell them to join to that set of numbers). If they are not on your local network and instead their own, you must port forward, and have them join your public address (you can find it by looking up "what's my ip address" on google).

There is a hidden create game button in the game (that I use to play test), but the reason why it's hidden is because when players host and other join, it creates a whole bunch of bugs.
A workaround you can do right now is to run the server application (I'd recommend playing with the configurations and a simple password for the admin console) and then run the client application, and connect by typing in "localhost" in the IP input field.
Whoever is running the server should open it first, then the other person should open their client (and the person hosting the server if they want to join as well) and join using the IP (you will need their public IP address in order to join, make sure they have port forwarded otherwise you wont be able to join).
The server should be displaying a "Navmesh generated (server is ready)" message before anyone tries to connect to the server.
I know its a little bit confusing lol, but let me know if u have anymore trouble
The server is only used for players to join, meaning that to join your own server you must run the server, then open the client, and connect to your own server. All the list of commands and stuff is intentional (unless its an error of course) and is for debugging/seeing what is going on in the server
Just wanted to say that I really do love this community and all of these games, and that this is probably my most favorite game jam of all time ;) Just the sheer number of incredible games and incredible people out there really makes this more enjoyable. I hope to do this again, and thank you everybody for being apart of this! :D
There's a lot of great games in this jam, and I know some people definitely plan to update their games and improve them. If so, then feel free to post your game here and let me know when you update it, and I'll play it sometime in the future!
(Like my game https://breakfastboii.itch.io/deep-descent-horror)
I've gotten a lot of feedback from many people playing my game (https://breakfastboii.itch.io/deep-descent-horror), and as I promised, I will be making a full release for the game.
If anyone's interested, here's some things I plan to add/change/update:
- More levels and longer gameplay
- Multiple gamemodes
- Multiple creatures
- Even scarier than before!
- Volumetric lighting
- More intuitive objectives
- Better tutorial
- Less boring gameplay
- And more!
If you played the game, feel free to LMK of any feedback you have!
Also I will be making a video on my YT channel that's basically a devlog on me making the game for the jam (idk when it will be out, but I'm trying to get it out ASAP)
Thanks so much everybody for such a great experience and feedback! Love to do this again in the future :D !
For being in range of the interactiables, I probably should’ve just changed the crosshair, like I did in a previous game, but the idea never really crossed my mind during development :/
(At least for the games current state) the only time you need to do interactions in a specific order is for the final level, but even then the first 2 can be done in any order and it only exists so that the player can get a good look at the squid before the chase sequence for the horror of it.
Thanks for the comment though!
Will be playing and livestreaming any games posted in the comments of this post (as long as I haven't already played them)
Just make sure to rate my game: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-10/rate/2237026
Also livestreaming on youtube, come check it out:
