Totally makes sense and all part of a short term Jam right :-) - if you take the idea further (and I think you should as its a really interesting idea) then the on boarding for the player will make a huge difference. Get it right and you could be onto a real winner here

Thanks for playing and commenting - the music is from a composer we connected with via Reddit. You can see their Soundclick at the following address so make sure to give them a like there as well : http://www.soundclick.com/_mobileFrame.cfm?bandID=1277008
He does move at different speeds - its semi random to try and add to the feeling of not being in control at all but if it came across as frustrating then we may need to work on that a little!
The buttons / portal feedback is very valid. We were thinking of linking the buttons and portals with color (i.e. blue button turns on blue portal and exit is blue as well) the help with visual clarity, but a) one of our team is colorblind and we were aware that color may not be the best indicator but most importantly b) we ran out of time / energy / sleep... :-)
Thanks for playing and glad that you enjoyed it. This was our first ever Jam and I think we may have caught the bug...
Very interesting concept that forms the key mechanic, thought the music worked well with the little story too! The subtle use of a visual indicator for the jump timing was a very handy addition. Art and music was great for such a time-limited project, especially liked the background. Had good fun finishing the game; died over 30 times, mostly on those devilish jumps near the end!
