Lovely take on the theme! It took me a while to find the key-hole aberration, but once I did everything fell neatly into place! I especially liked the visuals in the portal dimension and the voice lines for the scared townsfolk.

I almost quit the game after just a few minutes because I wasn't sure what was going on or what I was supposed to do, but the pause menu revealed the objective. I think the text used in the pause menu would be better used as the text at the beginning that gives a bit of a tutorial, it felt like it gave a bit more clear direction. Regardless, this was fun to play! Great job!

I'll take a look at yours later tonight!

In the second level, after the first 3 orders you are unable to complete the others (the vegetables order you). It's a scripted failure that brings you to the other level type but shouldn't make you lose any health or lose the game.

Thanks for playing!

This is a really impressive entry given the time constraints. The map feels expansive and I easily found myself getting lost when I didn't have the guidance of a friendly spider. The sounds all fit very contribute to making the game world feel real. I wasn't able to beat the game but I did have a lot of fun playing and was impressed by how much game there is.

Great work!

Great idea, here's my game: https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2571282

Congrats on your first game jam! This is the beginnings of a very interesting idea, and I had an 'aha' moment when I noticed the environment change.

I think the mouse buttons as a story telling mechanic is a fantastic idea, I just wished the story was a bit more fleshed out / there was more to discover.

Great work!

Glad you liked it :)

Thanks for checking it out!

Good movement mechanics can make a simple empty room a joy to play in. It took a little while to get used to the movement as it always does when you have complex options, but then it felt like I could fly. Great job with that element, which to me is the core of the game.

I think the game could use a bit more polish in the presentation area, such as more animations for certain movements, and some updates to the scrolls and level assets, but the core gameplay here is good enough to carry the game. Really impressive what you were able to complete in 2 weeks, great job!

Man I was so excited to play this game :( To think that Chris died in vain...

Jokes aside, this really is a fantastic entry. It has a cohesive and charming visual design, fantastic audio design which even includes boss music, and an out-of-the box approach to the jam theme. The voice acting is just the cherry on top.

Each 'level' had tips that would help to direct players if they didn't know what to do while also being funny enough to entertain players who didn't need them, which is an excellent design choice.

Very impressive, great work!

Wow really impressive entry! You weren't kidding when you said it was juicy. This is a super polished game that feels fully realized, which is incredible for a 2 week period.

The art style and music fit super well with the gameplay, and every time I died I was itching to go again. The hallmarks of a great game!

Nice work!

Really impressed by the size of the level and the variety of enemies, that's quite a lot for 2 weeks!

I wasn't quite able to beat it, I think I was missing a single core. But the game was engaging and had me on the edge of seat a few times. Good work!

Please take a look at my cooking game! https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2571282

Very polished puzzle game. It feels like a full game which is very impressive for the time frame.

The visual design is very clean and suited to the gameplay. It's vibrant enough to be interesting but not distracting. The music also pairs very nicely.

Great work!

This is a fun game with great presentation! The overall direction is very cohesive, and the art and sound are great. There's a bit lacking in variety of content, but the core idea here is original and a lot of fun. The controls were very clear, and the objectives started to stack up and become more complex which was a great bit of variety that added depth to the gameplay.

My last piece of constructive criticism was that the battles felt a little flat. I couldn't read my cards after I had collected a few, and I think a little bit of feedback after playing an action could go a long way to improving the fights.

Overall, this is a great submission! Awesome work!

I totally agree about the restart. It's something I've included in games in the past but I didn't have the time to add it for this one. There is a bug somewhere that was causing performance issues the longer the game runs that I couldn't track down and allowing you to restart really impacted performance over time.

Thank you so much for checking it out!

Thanks Neffesh :)

Cheers and good luck!

Overall, this is a fun game and a wonderful submission. It took me a moment to understand that the 'f' key was skipped, but then it all clicked for me. I only wish that the doors opened more quickly over time as that could really amp up the difficulty and make the game even more replayable. I loved the door opening sounds, and I felt so bad every time I closed the door on a friend =(

Great job!

This is honestly one of the first games I played that made me ask "what's behind the door". A lot of games took the theme literally (like me), but this one I was actually spending resources to see if I could prepare better. That's really neat.

The art is absolutely fantastic, and this is the start of a really interesting game. I'd love to see a longer version. The only thing I'd mention is that there's a lot of reading. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and the speed up text button makes it smoother, but I can't help but wonder if there's a way to streamline the reading without sacrificing story.

All in all, this is a fantastic submission and a great game. Love your use of theme, great work!

Firstly, the art style is really great, I loved all cure the enemies were. It all felt very cohesive. The gameplay was a lot of fun and it kept me wanting to replay it until I beat it, which is a great sign that you've got a good game.

The only thing I would change is the sound of shooting got a bit repetitive, but other that than it was fantastic. Great work!

(1 edit)

Very relaxing game, the music really added to the comfy atmosphere. By the end, I realized it never really mattered what was behind the door. Sometimes, it's all about the journey. This door taught me that.

Great work!

Wow this is a shockingly good game! The movement was hard to get the hang of, but once I got it, I felt so powerful flying through the level. The visuals and the music pair super nicely together to make a complete package. It's definitely hard, but every time I died I found myself saying 'one more time'. That's the mark of a great game.

My only complaint was that the enemies were too cute to be eating all the time lol. Awesome work, really impressive submission!

Wow, really glad I checked this one out. Super unique entry, dripping with style and heart. The soundtrack is fantastic, and the writing is exceptional for the time limit. I found myself actually annoyed at some of my 'friends', and that's not always an easy place to put the audience when you're making a narrative. I was pretty fed up with them so much so that I almost didn't give smiley face diamond avatar a chance. Really impressed, great work!

The only oddity I encountered was that I had to replay the second tangle, the one with the spark avatar that wanted to break things. I'm not sure if I just 'failed' the conversation, but it did repeat.

Good luck on getting to 20 ratings, y'all deserve it!

Thank you for playing and your thoughts! I'll check out Untangled tonight!

Fun puzzle game with awesome narration and unique levels. I definitely thought there was going to be a jump scare in the maze, but I managed to get through it before anything untoward happened.

Great work!

Really beautiful game, I'm impressed that you were able to make such nice assets in such a short time! Great job!

At first I thought there was no audio, but I found it very funny that there is a jumping noise. Overall, a great start to an interesting game, I hope you continue working on it!

That's strange I haven't encountered that before. Thanks for checking it out!

Can't say enough how awesome the visuals are! Truly something special, definitely encourage you to keep working on this game. I somehow missed the frog's instructions about the maze and was very confused that I kept ending up in the starting room and there were no enemies.

Through trial and error I solved the first maze and then realized how it was supposed to work before fighting ninjas in the second maze. Wish I had just re-read his speech earlier lol. Great work!

The Monty Hall problem! I love your choice of soundtrack, and it was great to actually get to try out the math I've read about on the idea myself! Thanks for this game, awesome work!

almost did a Monty Hall game myself, but ended up going with something only loosely-inspired by it (pretty much starting and ending with opening doors to see what's inside lol). Now I get to see what could have been if I stuck with my original idea.

Very nice submission, and a great use of the theme of the game jam! I though Monty the Wolf was a funny and lighthearted inclusion in a game that is otherwise pretty grim. Awesome job!

Funnily enough, the way your game turned out is pretty similar to how mine ended up! Great minds think alike =)

The art and audio both complement the game very well, I especially liked the design of the main menu. Putting surprises behind doors felt like a good way to tie in the theme and added a lot of intrigue to each playthrough.

Every time I died I wanted to play again, which tells me your team is onto something good. Nice work!

Very pretty game and great audio, lots of attention to detail here!

Really impressed with this submission, the only issue I encountered was being seen through a wall and having to start over, but then I got to have a chill furniture arrangement playthrough. Feels very cozy with an edge of mystery, nice work!

Really stunning art and sound, and wonderful, creepy vibes to the gameplay. Once I figured out how the various terminal actions worked, it was a lot of fun to solve the mystery. It felt a little easy to figure out which entity it was with just a little bit of observation and an expedition/offering, but I'm not sure if there's a good way to solve that without introducing more door types.

All in all, super innovative and very impressive. Great work!

The door mechanic to clear obstacles is great! Awesome take on the theme.

Very impressive for going solo, I just wish the checkpoints were a little more frequent because I'm not very good lol.

Great work!

Feel free to check out my game: https://farkatdark.itch.io/viginti =)

Super impressive for 2.5 days! The level design is unique and interesting, the art style is distinct and visually captivating, and the narration is so much fun. I only wish that y'all had 3.5 days to spend on it so I could have played a few more levels :)

The art and music is fantastic, and this is a great game first and foremost. Like some others have said, the controls feel a little bit clunky, and smoother controls would turn this great game into an absolutely fantastic one.

The only issue I encountered was when fighting the big boss. If I died, his sound effects would keep playing and I wouldn't be able to slash/enter any new doors without getting booted to the main menu.

All in all, great work!
