Really love this, have gotten some sweet and strange and fun messages today already! I had a lot of fun thinking on what to send out. I second user cratmang's comment; the transparent space around the radio bubble is in excess of what I would expect and blocks a lot of clicking behind it; not awful, but a lil inconvenient! A resize option would also be nice, but ofc is not necessary. Thanks for making this <3

Listening to it on repeat, thank you very much for great songs!

hi i played your game! video here:

i thought it was an interesting little platformer and i enjoyed playing it! i thought the moods of the different aspects of pride were represented well :)

hi not awkward at all, very kind actually <3  I'm doing ok, and I have a good support system (:  didn't finish my game but made more progress than I thought I would and may come to finish it sometime in the future. thanks!

I am playing on Windows 10 and a pretty regular laptop I think! Here's my silly video in case you get a laugh out of my bewilderment

this was super fun! also i luv aliens.

i loved it so much!!! also i made a very poorly cropped video in which i wail a bunch about how i want mara to like me >>"

I LOVE it, but comparing the stupid video I recorded where I could not get past level four and the helpful preview gif of the same level, for some reason my game is sped up so that I cannot get past those scissors!

glad i could help! keep up the good work <3

i loooooooved it! made a video if there's a chance you're interested in my mumblings at all orz

um, i did a little vid! heavy and unexpectedly sweet game. i'm chinese (also?) and my mom used to make me eggs and toast all the time in high school, that and the lessons mention really got me. lovely job <3

everything was simple and clear, jumping and movement were smooth, nice work!

i really liked the aesthetic and the narrative was bittersweet, what a solid teeny game <3

Unreliable narrator?? magic?? survival?  It's like it was tailor made for me lol. I'm so interested to see where this start goes!

This is adorable and ahhh the hazards! The animations are so smooth and nice!

This memory card system looks so fun! Can't wait for your level design.

Sprites look great and omg, "shopping at weird stores," I am into it!! You've got a lot of really interesting sounding story elements and I'm looking foward to seeing them all tied together, especially since you're writing at such high volume.

These models look great ahhh!!! The colors are Perfect

I have not done much due to The Depression, but I'm at around another 1000 words and making some story(?). Also, have the meagre offerings of character portrait sketches:

and a little tune in Orgmaker the other day: here

Music-making was way more fun than I was expecting and I'd love to do a bunch!! but Writing is most important with Art after that. Apparently I just really like to hop between tasks.

Looking at the web and all those choices, I'm looking forward to when I get to click and read all of them!

Ugh I looove metal slug, and this sounds really interesting!! The wall jump and double jumps look really smooth, I'm excited to see how it'll turn out!

Here is the quick sketch I did of some crystals for one of the branching areas-I've not really tried painting things on the computer before so this might be too challenging, to draw backgrounds for multiple scenes. But it'd be good practice! If I don't draw them, I think I'd use personal photos or collages of photos for backgrounds instead.

I wrote 1100 words yesterday, today a measly 400. I'm figuring out what kind of things the characters will talk about and sorting them into different paths so there will be some more branching. And, I started writing descriptions of the different areas, so I'm not staring at blank spaces in my document tomorrow :D Sticking with only two so far, but I'd love if I had the time to do more areas.

Thinking I'll have to alternate working on drawing/images with writing so I don't end up hating everything. That's it for today, but progress is progress.

I like what you have so far!  The moodiness of the lighting is great, another game I'll probably be scared while playing lol.

Ooh i'm so hype for this, I love rhythm games and I think the story sounds neat!!

The movement looks super smooth! I can imagine playing this game with someone and losing furiously lol

I love the concept for this. I think it has the potential to evoke a lot of (maybe uncomfortable) emotion!

If I do multiple endings they're going to be pretty similar. The significant branch will be which middle area you choose to go to, out of two- if I write and draw quickly I may add more options :3

I cannot wait to play this, it's like all my interests! And mega cute art!

Hello all, I'm Fleece!

I am creating a visual novel in Ren'py- and all that follows I've only just made up today, so here starts the devlog!

1.5.18
The aim (for now, I change my mind a lot eep) is to make a fantasy VN that's kind of an exploration game and kind of a getting-to-know someone game. Premise: you control a village scout/runner N., and while you are out on a typical errand for your home, you meet a girl named M. who asks you to escort her back to her home. And pass through various strange places etc. I'm going to try and see if I can get the mood of different environments in text because backgrounds are too hard to draw and i love purple prose and if i can characterise the protag and M. as two distinct people.

I've got clip studio paint to do art in, and I might even try and make a little tune for the game after I get my hands on some free music software. Maybe too ambtious, we will see!  I'm only on the first scene but already I've gotten to a bit of dialogue and some basic branching paths. An excerpt:

"N.'s duty has brought her to the famed gardens of the valley region, The Eight Exhales of the Rose in Bloom. Spires of bone frame the area; their white glare casts a shine on the plants. Roses from the earth turn their bodies to the sun while those clinging to trellises blush and gaze downward in modesty. Time feels slow. Heavy in the heat of the afternoon, the garden's scents drift and mingle with the smell of fresh earth, cut foliage, the last remnants of morning rain."

Yipes I hope it doesn't turn out super boring, lol. That'd be fine, come to think of it, just looking to write, figure out Ren'py basics, and make my own visual assets. Here goes!

edit: omfg i forgot the title.

That's a neat town design, it does feel very real!

That's a really cool looking lil room! Memory collecting sounds really interesting too, I'm looking forward to it :3

Oooh a good start, I'm so curious to know more details :)

I think the sprites are lovely so far! They look organic and charming.

Puzzle battles! It reminds me really distantly of Skyward Sword's dungeon key system- you had to rotate a 3d piece to the right position to open the boss areas. This sounds like a pumped up version of that, so cool :D

Oooh I used to be really into a text mud, text games are gr8.  I think it's super interesting how you're pulling from both incremental games and RPGS, that'll make for a really fun mix! Ridiculous numbers always got a little boring for me (played a mobile game like that) so it's cool you have ideas to avoid it.

This game is probably going to be super scary for me, ee! I love hide mechanics, that'll be really fun to experience.

Popping in to say i'm Super Stoked to see how this will turn out, it sounds really cool!

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?
I'm Fleece! I'm a 25 year old chinese american cis bi woman. (woman sounds weird but too late for girl now i think)

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?
This is my first time. I saw it reblogged on Tumblr and was like "OK this is a good push to make a game for real. Do it. Do it."  I love playing videogames and wanna push myself to try making them also!

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?
i love...so many games....Soma for existential horror, robots, AI, choices; Starseed Pilgrim for weird ambiguous space gardening; pokemon. the newer zelda games (my first was twilight princess). commander keen, lol. I love!! To make something anywhere near any of those would be so flippin cool.

I guess spite is my main motivator though, because what makes me MOST want to make a game is seeing something I don't like in a game, like the predatory gay trope/dismissal of lgbt characters+possibilities in persona games (UGH), or like, uniforms that get tucked under boobs in visual novel character portraits.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?
I, uh. Did the tutorial for gamemaker and that's IT!

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!
This may sound goofy but i'm really into Learning and Self-Improvement. I was gonna say plants, but that's just one of a lot of things I can focus on to become more knowledgeable about. Keying out plants is super fun when you can get it right though!!

6. What are your goals for this game jam?
To make at least two poses for at least two character portraits, and figure out how to do a branching story path for a visual novel. Hopefully this isn't too ambitious for a first go.

7. Any advice to new jammers (if you're a veteran)?
I'm the new jammer orz

8. If you're a returning jammer, what can the admins do to improve your jam experience?
Am not returning, but already everyone has been very kind and helpful, thank you <3
