Oh, thanks for commenting on the formatting! I came up with that myself and wasn't entirely sure what I was doing, but I was pretty happy with how it worked out :) Thanks for playing!

Thanks so much for playing!

Thanks for playing! Really appreciate the feedback.

I wanted the flashback sequences to feel completely distinct - and painted myself into a bit of a corner with the plain black background...

The original draft had more gated backstory - but I pivoted to showing the reader more in a single playthrough, rather than encouraging replays. Not certain that was the right decision but I thought it matched the linear story.

Really impressive how you built the setting with so few words about it. I felt like I was there! The character didn't seem to be thassalophobic but there was definitely a spooky mood to the writing... or maybe a landlubber like me can't help but project that fear.

Just a remarkable achievement. Even if it was just a short story collection it would've been a fun experience, but the layering and meta-story dimensions elevate it further. So impressive!

Amazing work team!

Super well-written characters - I personally could not be friends with Quail and thought Lillian was sweet. The mystery is great - it's quite cool that it doesn't get fully resolved so you're left to draw your own conclusions.

The art matches the project perfectly and the animation is impressive for 48 hours.

Just really cool stuff, definitely my fave from the jam :)

Thank you so much!

Wow you smashed it, I love this! I think it's the most complete experience in the whole jam. It feels like you thought of everything - for example, having the NPC re-explain mechanics to you if you forget them.

The soil nutrients mechanic challenged me because it went against my instincts... you can't leave a plot empty in a farming game! But this jam is all about challenging those established norms. Amazing job!

Can I get this music to play in my head all the time?? It's so good and matches the vibe of the game perfectly.

You're definitely onto something with the farmer. This has all the makings of a great idle game!

Hey sorry I feel really bad, there was a key typo in my comment! I meant to say "nice work" on the UI because I thought it was good! And then I basically said the opposite hahaha

Possibly proof I've been writing these comments too quickly and need to slow down...

Love the board game feel of this! Excellent design and pretty incredible art assets too. How did you do this in 5 days??

Just wanted to say kia ora on the use of te Ao Māori throughout the story. It's especially heartening from a team with members from outside of Aotearoa/Te-Moana-Nui-A-Kiwa so thank you for the aroha/love you showed <3

(1 edit)

Nice work on the interface - a game like this lives and dies on UI and yours conveys a lot of info in a pretty clear way. It's a shame there's no completed gameplay loop yet as it means there's little motivation to design the perfect garden (unless I missed it, which is totally possible).

Respect for turning up the seasonal variation to 1000% so that in winter you're gardening through a blanket of snow and in summer you're gardening on the surface of the sun

This game has so much potential! It's fun as is but a bit more handholding for the player would be really useful. For example, I couldn't figure out what to do with the fruit... if it's supposed to go in the baskets, a sound cue for player feedback would tell me I'm doing the right thing :)

Oh and I have to mention the game logo, it's so beautiful!

Nice work! The sound design was particularly spot on. I found myself getting really excited when an eggshell dropped and cursing onions for being so damn round haha

This is honestly a really great foundation. The mechanics are there and there's a lot of heart in the environmental storytelling.

I think the pacing is a little off - it's hard to avoid in a game like this but the least fun part is running to and from bed every day. Maybe if you could just press a button to end the day wherever you are?

I ran into a gamebreaking bug trying to plant some broccoli on day 8 or so. Should've stuck to tomatoes and asparagus and I would have been fine ;)

Thanks so much! The first concept for Ora was a whale and she is inspired by Māori tradition, but I don't think Paikea was an explicit touchpoint :)

This is really fun! Superb UI which is crucial for this kind of thing. Being able to easily switch keys is a great addition. Nice work!

Thank you so much for the kind feedback! If you know what you're doing, I think you can see all of the story in two playthroughs - however, a couple of scenes are locked behind specific decision combos :)

Does it make you feel better to know that several mechanics were added in the last 6 hours and we didn't get time to explain them all? haha

Thank you! Was definitely a case of overambitious scope with the number of interlocking mechanics. But we nearly got there in time! Stay tuned for a properly balanced version in a week or two ;)

That music track is going to be going round my head for days, perfect choice to fit the chaotic gameplay!

Love the sketch art style. A great example of picking a narrow scope and polishing it super well!

Maybe the best art direction in the jam? I've never seen something like this before - keep at it!

I love it when someone knocks a jam theme out of the park. So relevant, so educational, but fun enough to play that it could be properly successful as a mobile game. Nice work!

Top notch audio and great graphics work in such a short time. And I learned some things. Nice!

Vibes for days! Great choice of music to go with the art style, which really grew on me as the game progressed. Tight platforming and HUGE map (seriously, how did 2 people make that in a weekend?)

A creative high point of the jam, I think! Great vibes with the lighting and music and a really cool art style :)

You're really onto one here! The core gameplay is really compelling. I bet level design was pretty tough (maybe why only 3 levels got completed?) but I think you got the difficulty balance about right. Would love to see this developed further. Oh, and the graphics are gorgeous as well!

Bravo on the audio!! I really felt like I was creating a symphony by picking pears, it made the game much more engaging. #savethebees

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!

Thank so much for all the feedback! I wish I'd coded it so you only need to make each order twice or something... it would streamline the game a lot. And maybe ten is too many.

I'll remember to add some sound effects next time! That's the one thing I can't create myself so I tend to put it off...

Thank you, that means a lot!

Thanks for the feedback Alexander! I wanted to make hovering over a star show the recipe but never got to it...

So charming! It was a great idea to give them names. I love the animation and the core gameplay loop is really engaging. Great work!

I would quite like to collaborate at some point, make some game dev friends! Haha thanks, the running animation was rubbish for the first couple of days so I'm glad I sorted it out in time!

Thank you so much!! That's a pretty good time ;)

Art is definitely my weakest area, but it was good to get some practice... maybe next jam I'll manage some decent graphics!
