Just a remarkable achievement. Even if it was just a short story collection it would've been a fun experience, but the layering and meta-story dimensions elevate it further. So impressive!
unique premise and 8-bit vibes
I was saving this to play as a treat after rating nearly all the games because I had such high hopes & I was not disappointed at all!!! Loved the interweaving stories, the character voices, the innovative way of mixing the different stories... I can't imagine how much work must have gone into this but the premise & the execution is incredible!
First of all, nice game and interesting interface. I appreciated the old school font but have to admit, it was difficult to read after a while. I think the darker back ground worked better but I get why you had them flip depending on whose turn it was.
I liked how you were able to use all eight of the songs to create the stories.
Io is a bit of a mystery, which I think adds to the game. I'd be interested to know more about the character. Maybe a post jam post? And kudos for writing so much in such a short amount of time. That is not easy!
thank you!! and thanks for the design feedback, nice typography is tricky with decker but I'll keep experimenting. and if you wanna know more about Io you should check out my entry from last year :) although the typography is even worse in that one... sorry...
This hit so many points for me. Of course, the aesthetics hit me square in the breadbasket. Really clear, using the circle in multiple ways really was effective.
The initial mechanic - going through 8 stories without repeating too much - was inspired. That moment where it clicked WHY some of the passages were so repetitive was really an incredible moment. If I were not reading out loud, i feel like I would have hit what I assume is one ending and thought the game was neat.
Moving past that - the moment that it became a different game, especially as the screen dimmed with the hope (and I assume that might have been another ending) pulled me into specifically the character of Elena.
The third act - finding the lighthouse - was a satisfying coda, and the question of what would have been happiness for Elena was a genuine question after the first two sections. Unfortunately, it seems like the endings weren't there! I tried poking around in Decker but couldn't find anything down the path I was on.
thank you!!! I'll have to check out your playthrough (and your game!) And the lighthouse endings are just meant to end there - one of them may be picked up in a year's time, and the other has been picked up in real life... I don't know, should I add a bit more?
Ha I'm bad at "shoulds." It felt less like "the end, for now" and more like the game bugged, but that's just one pov.
I guess that settles it, I'll do a postjam update!
