Wow you smashed it, I love this! I think it's the most complete experience in the whole jam. It feels like you thought of everything - for example, having the NPC re-explain mechanics to you if you forget them.

The soil nutrients mechanic challenged me because it went against my instincts... you can't leave a plot empty in a farming game! But this jam is all about challenging those established norms. Amazing job!

  • dialog is too fast and font used is difficult to read
  • graphics and sound are nice, fits well with the game
  • the backgrounds are distractive
  • gameplay is a bit "stiff", it's unclear where to plant and I wish there was more graphics on that part and not the background
  • lots of stereotypes (green feed yards, cows, red barn) that didn't bring much to the game and theme

Great use of the theme, one of the best incorporations of it in the jam that i've seen. Nice art, audio is basic but does the job.

It's really not my sort of game so I didn't play for too long but the only real issue i noticed is sometimes when you pick a seed it doesn't turn into the shovel immediately which is a tiny problem. I think if i were willing to sit and take the time to play through more than a couple of years all the info you need is there in the almanac.

Oh I guess one thing I really didn't find clear was nutrients, and some of the oither soil conditions, I could tell the worms were representing some of that and the shading, but like how you can examine the plants, it might be nice to be able to examine the soil too for it's current traits.

Developer

The soil nutriment thing is explained by the grandpa if you ask him about it.

There are buttons you can select which ask the grandpa about specific features.
Glad that you kinda liked it, despite not being your type ! BUT "AUDIO IS BASIC" ?!!!  :O

One of us took an entire day to make all the songs xDD, and we love it !!!!

:D

everyone has their own taste i guess :) no shade on the composer. For real though definitely one of the best games for theme and ive played almost all of them now.

Love the music! Also I don’t know how you managed to pull off such an art style in just 5 days. Good job!

wow so beautiful artstyle it looks beyond a gamejam game.

Developer

Thank you !!!

I like the way you explained how to play the game!

Developer(+1)

We talked a lot about how we tell the the player how game mechanics work (it was a bit of a conflict 😅). But at the end it works pretty well!

thanks for the comment 👍

Beautiful art style and lovely music! The cohesive art style makes the game look very polished! I enjoyed the little story and thought the encyclopedia was great. I can't quite figure out the victory conditions, as it keeps jumping to game over when I advance seasons, but I liked the concept. The section for player clicks could be bigger, struggled a bit to click the harvest button. Overall, nicely done and beautiful to look at!

Notes taken as I played:

cute music, interesting title, fun graphics - love the little fish on the intro page

can't appear to turn page in dictionary after radish

Ui bars (clock, proximity, etc) are appearing but non functional during farmer's speech

maybe consider click to advance dialog, missed some instructions because it went too quickly when I was looking away

i selected the "remove" option for radishes and couldn't progress

spacebar will skip seasons during intro text

was able to plant the second vegetable but then game ended when I clicked to advance time

UI section for gameplay is rather small, most of the screen is art and it's tricky to select the gameplay buttons necessary

was hard to see leeks when they were growing, thought I was clicking on an empty plot

ended up in game over screen again, is it just based on number of rounds?

no credits page?

Developer(+1)

I encourage you to play the game again, it look like you lost your radish by clicking the remove button rather than the harvest button and after you may have planted leek on the wrong season (check the Encyclopedia).

The UI bars is the objective of the game, which mean you need to harvest plants each season to feed your family, so you cannot just skip seasons without harvesting anything. If you dont harvest enough diverse plants each season, the UI bars on top left of the screen goes down to game over

There is no winning screens, the game end after you unlock the 11 plants ! But you are free to try and farm 50 seeds of every plants if you wish !

Ah, I replayed several times and did harvest each round. Those were just my notes I took as I played. The radish note was to point out that it could lock game progression if the player makes that mistake.  I didn't realize I was feeding the family so I don't think I watched out for that, but I might have ended from just collecting all the types :) It's not hitting game over every round, just eventually I'll change seasons and see it.

Very nice game, enjoyed playing it but noticed that on some displays text doesnt show in the web browser, other than that it was a very nice experience!

Developer

We got a lot problems with some characters don't showing when exporting the game 😭

Does the problem is about some character not showing, some character replaced by a rectangle or entire text not showing?

Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted

Oh it's not that bad as not showing entire text, is just that on some resolutions it doesn't show the entire text (a line or some characters) on a page of the book, but it's almost not noticeable.

I really like the colours and pixel art nice job :)

I nearly missed the seed drawer on the left I think it would be good if it were bigger / popped out a little more.

Developer

Thanks (major part of the pixel art is from ecrom, he is the best)

Yes the drawer is too small 😅 buuuut we sadly see this too late.

Thanks for the feedback!

Developer

Thank you !! ^^

Yeah we figured it out... A fix could be that the drawer should open itself when the grandpa is explaining how it works.

Really like the art style of your game by the way!

I cannot figure out how to plant things, will come back later

Developer

there is a drawer that you can pull from the left side of the screen.

As your grandad tell you to do so.
