Hi TwinLeaf Clover !
It's not the simplest of games for sure, though surely worth it once you've got the knack.
Here's a short written explanation of how to play: https://lambdanaut.com/posts/2020-06-25-How-To-Play-Picowars.html
The only unit that can't attack is the APC. It's for carrying infantry and mechs far so they can strategically capture distant bases.
Some units(the Artillery and Rockets) are ranged. They can only attack at a range. That is explained in the guide.
Good luck and have fun!
Great game! I had a moment of trouble figuring out running the mac version at first but it did work.
The graphics and effects were fantastic. Some of the best presentation of any of the games I've played in the jam.
I also really liked how the left and right handed long-range attacks balanced each other out. Juking to the left and right to make attacks was a fun mechanic.
I found myself wanting to hear some sick sound effects from my attacks, and I think that alone would make this a lot more enjoyable. Looking forward to the next version!
I liked the strategy combined with the minigame undertale-esque cutscene battles. Unfortunately it froze on me like it did for some others!
You can right-click on the page in your browser and click "inspect", and then click "console" in the tab that comes up to see errors in your game if they appear. I don't have time to play it until it crashes again right now, but if you do that, you should see an error in the console when it freezes that will probably help you debug your issue.
Woah! I loved that. One thing I'd also add is for your own bullets to damage you, and for them to last a bit longer after wrapping around the screen.
I think it would add an interesting extra dimension of strategy that would also discourage holding down the fire button unless you think you'll hit your target.
That was fun! I liked the simplicity of it, and the presentation was pretty well done. I loved the death scene. Definitely a nice attention to detail It's good to kill a few minutes, but it obviously lacks in depth and it's not a particularly original concept. Still, given that, it's a well done little piece.
Yeah I originally did that so players wouldn't accidentally move somewhere they didn't want and have to restart the level, but I think that you're right. The controls are a bit clunky, so I just fixed it and re-uploaded a new version.
Would you give it a try and let me know if that feels better? I definitely prefer it.
Np! I had an interesting bug that only showed up for me in the browser. Certain levels weren't loading but some were, seemingly at random. It turned out that the code that loaded the levels had the incorrect node(or scene) name. The capitalization was off ("Level1.scene" vs "level1.scene"). Godot didn't break in the editor on that, but when compiled for HTML5 it did break. It was a weird bug to figure out.
Idk if that's your issue, but it's weird that Cthulhu rendered fine for me.
Sadly I can't try it locally because I'm on mac.
I'm enjoying this game! I did run into quite a few bugs, but nothing gamestopping. Though for me the characters were mostly just purple blobs, so that was a let-down. Only Cthulhu actually rendered properly for me in the browser.
It's an interesting take on rock paper scissors. When I first grokked it I thought that it wouldn't be fun, but it's a compelling little mechanic, and I started to feel like certain enemies had patterns of choosing certain moves rather than being completely random. Am I right on that?
That was more fun than I expected! I have experience hitting PICO-8 token limits so I know the struggle and I'm surprised that you were able to fit so much content into a single cart!
The pixel art is pretty good for PICO-8, and I especially like the Dior's portrait. The use of the white highlight around the characters was also nice.
The first time that Fang said that there must be another way, and that it didn't feel right, I backtracked all the way back to the beginning, searching the walls for some secret I missed. That was a mistake lol. Maybe make that not possible? I dunno. It was nice though, because I was assured that I'd seen and done everything worth doing.
The dialogue is also really great! I appreciate the JRPG melodrama, and I think that you really nailed it. I haven't played a JRPG in over a decade but..
you really gave me the nostalgia. Aaaa

woah! Interesting
I think I know why too.
That was such a great bug catch, tysm <3
Edit: the bug should be fixed now! The audio script I was using had a 2D position that I forgot about, so I edited it to throw away the 2D position on screen which previously was always 0,0, so it would play more out of one ear than the other
YES
I saw this on Twitter yesterday and it's the one I've been looking forward to the most and I have to say that it did not disappoint. Implementation was great, and I loved getting my ass kicked by that lil hero. It's so playful, happy, and fun, and I also love the humor in it.
"But heroes always come back"
"HE CAME BACK!"
😂😂😂👌
It really on point with the theme and limitation.
My guess is that you haven't gotten any feedback yet because you didn't post the controls. It took me a minute of button smashing to realize that A and D changed rotation and I think CTRL shoots.
Those are some really weird controls.. Maybe use the arrow keys instead?
I found myself having fun trying to stay alive. I'd say the idea has potential.
