Day 4

so today I want to take a little break from coding and start some art

to do list

- Start on player walking sprites

- start on the forest tileset

- and make the box with character portrait that the dialogue will go in

will definitely post screenshots this evening

end of day update

today here are the things I got done

- I got the shield done

- And like yesterday I fought with making the enemy that took up quite a bit of time and was unsuccessfull so at this point I think I am going to just make it a problem for future me and make something else tommorow anyway that'a it for today

PS happy 4th of july to those of you who are american

sorry for no screenshots earlier I forgot as of now there is not much to look at as all the "art" is  temporary but in this picture the player is attacking a enemy in a testing level

Day 3

sorry for no eveing update lastnight I got busy unforunately yesterday I got almost nothing done everything I tried wasn't really working but oh well game dav is about failing and learning and trying again anyway todays to do list

- finish basic enemy

- make shield

- and start on the first cutscene

yeah I think the "memories" will work something like that

quick update

after playing around with the grappling hook a bit I realized my game really doesn't need a grappling hook which is unfortunate but sometimes plans change

I think it's going to be more of a action RPG game sort of like a link to the past as for screenshots I will probably post some this evening and will definitley show some when I start on the art

Day 2

to do list

- Finish text engine

- Make grappling hook

- And make a basic enemy

if I finish all that then I possibly also want to make another enemy

time for the end of day update today I set out to plan what I wanted to make and get some basic coding done  here are all the things I got done

- I made a scrolling top down movement system

- I got a basic attack done

- and I started a text engine for the dialouge

Well that's it I hope everyone had fun today and got what they wanted to done

thanks!

so my idea is that the player wakes up in a forest and doesn't  know who they are or how they got here and they are injured throughout the game you must heal and find out how you got here

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

My name is Noah and I am fairly new to game dev and have never actually finished something  but I hope to change that

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

No I did not participate in the last jam and I wanted to join to hopefully finish something and see what other people at the same skill level as me make

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

that's a tough question i have a few favorite games and inspirations I love shovel knight, mega man X, legend of zelda BOTW and as for what inspired me I always wanted to make games and then found the world of devlogs on youtube and got really inspired and it all started there

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I have tryed making somethings in scratch and have a few failed projects and a few games in the works

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

art! I love drawing , painting and when it comes to games I love 16-bit pixel art

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

to finish and be proud of a game

 for sure! :)

I use scratch also and am also looking at switching to the free version of construct but might give scratch one more try

as the title says this my second attempt at a medriodvania month jam and a game jam in general last time scopecreep got the better of me but I am hoping to succeed  this time!

I am new as well and have never successfully finished a jam and I think that was due to overscope so I would say try and keep it to a smallish size personally I am going to be making a arcade style game

been a bit busy the past couple days so nothing done today but should have time to get some work done tomorrow

:( that's rough

going to try and get all the animations and sprite work for the player done today

congrats on getting some time off hope your gamedev today goes well

neat!

thanks and likewise!

really cool! I should probably organize the rest of the month for what I want to that week

I am hoping to get most if not all items implemented and if I have time work on more map design

i don't see why not unless its against the rules

I don't see why you couldn't make a adventure based game

i have character controller and some pixel art done

for sure!

Let's get jaming!

I'm using scratch partly because that's basically all my computer can do and I have the most experience with it

there will be a optional theme announced at the start the only other restriction being the game has to be a metroidvania

(1 edit)

thanks was wondering that to

super simple but really fun has you saying just one more time every time you fail

 thanks!

a quick question is there a ideal length for the games metroidvanias being longer but game jams games are usually shorter thanks!

lol possibly ;)

As mentioned this will be my first game jam the month long time limit works well for me exited to see what everyone makes
