Hey all, I'm a hobbyist Unity developer. I'm on the lookout for like-minded individuals who share my passion for game development and wish to join forces to create a truly epic game this year! Currently, our team has a blend of coding and musical talent. I'm looking to pick up any 2D artists, 3D artists, game designers, and possibly more game developers.

Feel free to reach out if you are interested. My discord username is @internationalspacestation. I look forward to meeting you!

Man I wish I played this before submissions were up! I woulda rated 5s all around. This was super fun!

Nice FX and music NOICE

Thanks for reporting this bug! We'll make sure that gets resolved in an update after the game jam ends :)

Great suggestions! We'll take those into account for sure. I really appreciate it <3

I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed our game! I  think it's a great idea to work towards making the game more accessible. Our plans for this game include a keybindings page and tweaking the boss hitboxes to make them more forgiving. I hope you will tune in for the third (and final?) boss once we update after the jam is over :)

Super pretty! Loved the boss designs. I enjoyed :-D

Haha the pigeon? Nah, they wouldn't hurt a soul! <3

Stunning visuals. Bosses were fun and unique! Loved how each boss had three stages. Good use of the makeshift theme. Killing the last boss with a nullpointerexception was therapy.

Nice bite sized game. Good retro game feel to it :)

In my opinion, the boss attacks are quite well telegraphed! After a few tries I learned all the cues and started anticipating their next move.

I really like this! I thought the default controls were difficult, so I switched to my favorite WASD, Shift to dash, Space to jump controls. It took me approximately 10 tries, but I finally got ahold of all the different mechanics and almost beat the dual bosses :D
Love the inclusion of the bouncing downwards spin attack. Really fun. Also took me a while to realize dashing made me invincible (electric boss was literally impossible without this knowledge LOL). Powerups feel good. I often forgot to use my special attack, so I think a better indicator that the special is ready would make it more useful.

TLDR: great game, great art, fun, hard, good aesthetic + music to match. Good job!

Great game! This really embodies the makeshift theme. The art is really amazing too. Like others I would love to see the recipe list again after the first level.

Dragon model and animations were really cool :)

I really like how you can use different items, which really plays along with the theme! Retro vibe is incredible and takes me back. Sometimes I was a bit confused what was happening in certain fights. Overall, nice job

It was morbidly entertaining to throw bricks at a sheep.

Nice. Fun retro vibes w/ some really fun retro sfx that makes me feel old :D

Nice! I downloaded it from your alt link and it works as intended. I think the music is funny... Sounds like its saying "Boss Music" haha

Couldn't quite figure out how to pick up weapon upgrades, and the instructions were a bit unclear. Regardless, I loved the art style and thought the controls were really smooth!

Good concept. Bosses are a bit random but they are well-made. In the final boss, I would love it if the player could jump sooner after attacking. The delay has killed me so many times T-T. I also think it should be more clear that you can briefly tap the recharge key during the 2nd boss to partially recharge a block. Overall, solid execution of a pretty makeshift game :)

Great makeshift concept. Great art for both the characters and the environments. Combat feels challenging but smooth. I spent more time fighting the first boss than I have on many entire games combined in this game jam. It was that fun. Every time I went in I felt rewarded, and I also felt like my skill was improving to an extent that actually made a difference.

Honestly, this game is good enough that it deserves a more detailed critique than just "oh I liked this and that." A pain point during combat was that taking damage didn't provide enough feedback. The sound for this is very quiet, and less VFX play on taking damage than when dealing damage. I even think a healthbar animation of some kind would make it more obvious that you took damage or healed (from the Tooth). On the flipside, dealing damage feels great with the subtle screen shake and such. On the topic of makeshift weapons, I wonder if there's some way you could make the swing FX reflect the size of your sword. It could also be fun to introduce some element of weight or balance to the sword (e.g. the longer you make it, the further it'll hit but the slower it'll swing). But that stuff is difficult and wishful thinking haha. Lastly, pls let us proceed without hurting the poor dummy :(

My biggest disappointment in this game: I want more bosses! I would love to keep playing this game so hopefully you continue developing it :)

Hey! Thanks for the review :) If you couldn't make it past the first boss, please feel free to use a cheat code (press 1 and 0 at the same time) to unlock everything

Wow the boss is fast... I can't even get past the 2nd attack.

Nice beat-em-up feel to this game. Though the hitstun is a little OP and you can mostly spam knife attack to win. Really nice animations and FX (esp on the fox gun)

I fall through the map right when I press Play :( Tried restarting a few times to no avail :(

Really nice art! Controls feel good. First 2 bosses were a bit easy, 3rd was hard but good, and then the final boss was practically unbeatable. Even after I learned its attack patterns it would have taken me like 10 minutes of whacking at it to win... Maybe I was using the wrong sword??

Wow the first bosses 2nd phase is hard! Any tips for beating it?

Cute. Nice character movement, but I think the controls are a little unintuitive (e.g. I'm used to space being jump and shift being dash, not vice versa)

Nice! Gorgeous visuals (I esp like the 2nd and 3rd bosses designs). Good FX too.

The only way I could figure out how to win was to clip into the boss so they can't shoot me lol

Kept dying to projectiles after killing the boss and the camera pans away so I can't dodge :(

Nice fx and solid boss art. Would have liked to get my progress saved after each boss, since it takes a while to go back through and kill the 1st boss again.

Unfortunately got a  nullpointerexception at the 2nd boss and couldn't proceed. Nice art :)

Late reply, but hopefully this can help someone one day :)
The wire is a linked list of Unity's HingeJoint2D component. I disable physics simulation on the individual wire strands after they stabilize (for performance sake). When the level ends, I assign each light a color, dim the rest of the level, and add bloom to my post processing stack to make the lights glow.

Really fun game! Love how smooth and fast it feels :) Nice music too!
