Hey thanks for playing! Breaking up the text into smaller chunks is something I’ll be adding in the big post-jam update I have planned (also adding an easier to read font haha). For the controls I’ll keep your critiques in mind, but in my experience J & K are pretty standard action keys and fall where people’s hands generally rest while typing as they’re both on the home row. That being said I will likely add the option to jump and accept menu choices using the spacebar as there are quite a few games that use it as an action key as well. Stayed tuned for Big Update 1, the “Mechanics Update” which will be uploaded once the voting period ends. Thanks again for playing ❤

Interesting concept, would love to see it more fleshed out

Fun action game! I agree with some of the other comments about how interacting with the trash didn’t feel as rewarding as it could have but I will say I thought the amount of enemies within them was manageable. Minor note but I wished there had have been a sound effect when using the ladders as it took me a second to realize I had actually changed floors. Overall nice little game!

Great simplicity with the controls, definitely an addicting little game! The story and theme implementation were a bit lacking but for a game-and-watch style game this was fun and challenging.

I really like the sound design in this, those klaxons really made me feel on edge! I think it could have benefitted from some explanation of the controls (unless I just missed them somewhere) but I figured them out through trial an error. Would love to see the finished product!

Love this, it’s a creative and concise idea for a game! A bit laggy on my end but we can probably chalk that up to my 10yo laptop haha. Great work!

Honestly so embarrassed about the godmode thing lmao, that’s jam life 😂 Was so worried I’d accidentally have the player start in some random room I was testing (something I’ve definitely done in other jams before haha that I forgot to turn it off. What can u do ¯_(ツ)_/¯ would love for you to try it out after the jam when some much needed improvements have been added 💖

Hey thanks for playing and for the critiques! I will definitely keep some of that in mind. To address a couple things:

I do have the Itch equivalent of a mature content feature on so I’m not super concerned about little kids finding this, that seems like more of a parental supervision issue at that point haha

Bathrooms doors was really just an artistic choice, I wanted to emphasize the protag feeling “small”. I was also trying to touch a bit on the sublime, a feeling of insignificance associated with experiencing intense grandure (think “eldritch” but with more positive, less monstrous associations if youre unfamiliar with that use if the term)

The intro is definitely supposed to be a bit slow, mostly so it doesn’t get skipped through haha, but my playtesters agree with you and I didn’t listen to them so I’ll be sure to up the speed on that for a future update 😅

If there’s ever a point where you thought “Wish there was sound here” girl me too, that’s another thing I left a bit late cuz life got in the way

Hey thanks for the review! I’ll say it’s definitely easier to read at smaller resolutions but yeaaa, I can definitely see that it’s not the mooost readable font 😅 unfortunately, the “click through” aspect is a bit if a limitation of the program I used. I wasn’t just going for the Game Boy style, I used a program called GB Studio which produces actual .gb ROMs. Suuuper easy program to get into but at the cost of having all the limitations an actual Game Boy game does, including clunky dialogue implementation ¯_(ツ)_/¯ And thank you for the compliment about the sound, definitely fell short of what I’d hoped (I’m a composer LOL) but all the other stuff that I’m not as familiar with (ART 😔) really ate up that month of development 😂 Feel free to check back in sometime after the voting ends, I’ll hopefully have some improvements implemented ;)

Hey no, you figured it out! It’s primarily an exploration game, definitely inspired by the Souls-like “minimal directions” angle. Hopefully by the end of the voting period I’ll have a slightly more complete version ready (with more emphasis on enemy encounters and “stealth” powers) but alas, ran out of time to implement some of that. Hey yea we’re still in demo mode over here, should have a better build once the submission period ends! For the dash, did you grab the associated item that lets you dash? The player doesnt have any powers unlocked right from the start, you’ll have to find the item that grants you that power.

First track giving very Zelda, specifically the Serenade of Water form OoT. Really pretty, airy Flute on that one! I see you kind of took that i–IV chord progression and used it as a main motif which tied these together really well! Plus the way you play around with it chromatically later on breaks up the monotony. Really liked Mechacanthine Chaos, really reminded me of like a chill Pokémon battle theme (the break core percussion was a nice touch). Overall really nice work on these!

Nice sense of direction! You developed the material well across the tracks and you clearly have a good ear for musical payoff. Some of the VSTs you’re using sound fantastic like those pizzicato strings, and especially the bowed strings in Lights Off where very beautiful. Nice work!

I like the progressive style of these compositions, building out on the melodic line and getting more complex up until the end. Very good way to keep listener interest up with the trance-adjacent composition style you qent for! I’d love to have been able to read a bit more about each track individually to see how they’d fit into this game you imagined, but otherwise nice work on these!

Hey thank you so much! If you’re into the stuff from the later 2 tracks I suggest looking at an artist called DVEIGHT if you don’t already know them, definitely took some inspiration from their approach to “melodic” lines. Really glad you enjoyed!

Gorgeous oboe on that first track, and also the low cello on 4 was sooo good, super earthy! Overall really effective use of those orchestral sounds, you capture this really cinematic sound that works great for VGOSTs.

Great work! Something I really liked was how you leaned I to the MIDI sound with the percussion near the beginning, those hardcore, repeated 16th note kicks had this really fun character.

I’m really into the fact you used your own field recordings for this, that parts really adds to the theme imo. Not related to the music per se, but I would have really liked to see some track descriptions just to know what the direction was but overall, you captured this gorgeous eerieness that was super affective.

Love that dirty bass with those brassy synths in the first track, totally see where you were going with your mentioning of Amnesia. Overall nice work on this!

Very cinematic! I think you made good use of those thin, fragile strings in the 3rd track, definitely conveys the girl’s control of her “world” becoming more tenuous and strained. A sadness permeates the whole soundtrack, adding to that feeling of being lost in your own world, almost like Mei is becoming a stranger there. Looove the reversed piano in Creatures mixed in with the unreversed, very underrated combo! Overall a nice set of ambient tracks, these would work great as BGM for the game you described. One critique I have is that at times the mix felt a bit off in terms of volume, I especially noticed in the 1st track with that second theme. I think the theme is definitely contrasting enough to stand out without being made so much louder. Otherwise, very nice work here!

Nice work with this, very cinematic soundtrack! Entre Tus Brazos was very pretty and delicate. I also enjoyed the subtle (and sometimes more overt) sounds of water coming in throughout the mix, especially in Corrientes where you used them almost like another percussion instrument with its swish, cymbal-like quality. Great work!

A thoughtful blend of acoustic and chiptune sounds, I loved those really subtle glisses at the beginning of “Stuck in Time”. The synths you chose for “The Earth Cant Hold Me” gave the track a simultaneously soft but spooky character, reminded me a bit of the Twin Peaks soundtrack! The buildup in that track was also really moving, I think it would work really well as the final area BGM, epic and restrained all at once. Great work here!

Hey thanks for listening! Toootally agree, I definitely had AI stories on my mind. I think a lot about that one that came out recently where 2 AIs talking each other invented their own language and syntax using the characters provided to them (letters, numbers, coding symbols) and also just about how jagged and weird lines of code can look to people who don’t know how coding works

Such a strong start, the ambience is great. You really captured the sludgy, gritty-grimy, post-apocalyptic feeling I think you were going for. I really like the melodic material in “Among the Boxes”, it reminded me a bit of gamelan music from Indonesia in the turns it took. And “Raising the Crows Nest” was fantastic! I don’t think it was microtonal, but the pitch relations and treatment of the melodic material reminded me of some of the microtonal artists I like, namely Brendan Byrnes (please check him out, great introduction to the world of mucrotonality). The overall Doom-like aesthetic present throughout the whole soundtrack was so satisfying, and the little distorted vocal bits here and there were very expertly done. I’m really glad you decided to do this jam, you have this really innate sense of musicality that you just have to keep pursuing! Amazing work on this, truly.

Very professional production on these, you used the strings really masterfully! The simple yet gorgeous textures you achieve throughout are really impressive. I especially liked the second track, I think you definitely achieved that feeling of loss that would accompany Umi as she finds her mother absent from that section, while still keeping that childlike wonder. Really evocative overall, great work!
