The Narrator is a game I made for GMTK Game Jam 2023 around a year ago. It was my first time ever using PSX graphics and cinematics and I think it turned out quite well. It's a short game, around 5 minutes or so, as it was made in 48 hours. It isn't a horror game, I just wanted to use horror aesthetics and atmosphere.

There is a bug with the mouse sensitivity where it won't update until you load the level again, so it should update when you either load a new day or continue from the main menu.

Just wondering, does this include PSX Bunkers or is it a single pack?

How did you guys do this in 2 weeks? This is an insane game for 2 weeks, this would of taken me months lol. You guys should defo be proud of yourselves for this. 10/10!

The low poly art style is super unique. The gameplay is very simple and straightforward which is amazing. The puzzle solving mechanic was really good! It's a similar game to to ours haha. Well done!

I got the super rare crow on my first go! Good game, very fitting music and art style. Claw machine was a bit buggy but that's just physics in general.

The camera was really weird, the jittered a lot and the placing of it was really weird sometimes. Like the path from the city road to the alley was blocked by a bin so I spent a minute trying to figure out where to go. Overall, the game felt disjointed, like it was many games made into one, it felt a bit empty with no clear direction. With a better and more clear direction, I reckon this could be a good game.

Amazing game, very cute art style, very fitting music. very good controls etc, the list could go on. +1 for no bugs too, as far I as I could tell.

Might of been the PS5 controller then. Sadly that's the only controller I have. I'm sure the games great, it looks amazing from the pictures!

The frogs seems very chill!

A very unique take on the jam for sure! Music was amazing and made feel the same emotion as the character. The art was very unique too! Good job on this, it was amazing!

Very nice art style and music. The movement for the boat was really well done.

However, I was driving the boat and I got teleported to a dock. When I got teleported to the dock, I kept all my momentum and ended up away from the dock without the ability to move since I still in the dock. But all the UI for the deck wasn't there cause I ended up away from the dock due to the momentum.

I couldn't connect to the game. I pressed the correct button at first but it didn't work so I just button mashed and it still didn't work. I'm using a PS5 controller and I it was connecting as steam was responding to it. I won't rate it as it might be my fault and that would be unfair to you guys. I'm try again in a couple days. Just wanted to let you guys know in-case any else has this issue.

Brought this a couple months ago, used it in a prototype and forgot about it. Came back to download it again for another prototype and see all these improvements. Well done, this looks like a totally different asset than the one I brought haha. Definitely gonna use this now!

I know it's 4 months late but I am still so confused by this question. I too also want to know who are John?

I have an idea for a visual look I can do with two colours but if there were shadows, would they count as a colour or not? Or would it probs be best to go with no shadows?

This is one of the most deep games I've ever played. I didn't get it until I completed both endings, I did the pill ending first. The name of the game truly does describe exactly what the game is. I hope to see more work from you Nouhidev.

Thank god!

Great tool but can you please ad drag and drop support for the images. It would be a great QOL feature.

That's supposed to happen if you press B when it asks you if you think Black and White are colours, just a little joke.

You can just go back to the main menu and jump back in. That'll sort it.

He said before you can use your own sounds/music and fonts. It's in rule 6 on the jam description.

Thank you! I have a video where I completed it so if you need help finding a path, you can watch that!

Nah it's all good, I was too quick for the game. Some call me flash.

Thank you! I loved your game btw, it's really addicting. You should try make a mobile version, simple two controls and addicting. Perfect formula for mobile I say.

Thanks!

Props to you for putting in the effort, lasted longer than most people including my friends haha.

Thank you for the kinds words!

I tried to add humour to add something else to the game other than difficulty. It's all good if it was too difficult, been getting a lot of feedback like that.

With the colour change being scary, I thought of a way too neglect this by letting the player hold the RMB to view both maps at the same time but couldn't add this as the colliders never got disabled so it would just bug the player out and force them off the platform and I sadly didn't have time to fix this.

Agree with the sound aspect. I searched for background music but none of the music 'fit' with the game otherwise I would added some background music to it.

There is no clear solution to making the character feel fluid. You just have to keep tweaking values till it feels nice.

Personally, I would make the player accelerate and deaccelerate when moving as well as jumping. Holding spacebar won't make it fluid but can definitely improve the experience.

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback.

Don't worry, you're not the only one who has found it difficult. I think I had a little bit of developer difficulty bias when playtesting haha.

It's all good! As far as I'm aware this jam isn't strict on it's theme and we all have our own interpretations of it.

I like the idea, very similar game to mine in terms of the map swapping but besides that, it was very enjoyable. I felt as if you could of added a player model to distinguish between the player and the map but its all good considering you only had 4 days to make it.

Very good concept and art style. Well done!

Very cool graphical style. I don't understand how to get past planks so I haven't rated your game. I've tried multiple ways and still couldn't get passed it.

The colliders on the trees are very wonky. I kept bumping my head and got stuck each time.

Apart from that, really cool and unique game!

Liked the soundtrack and gameplay but the audio was too loud. It would be nice to implement an audio slider. Very hard game too.

Good game but picking up the little dudes are really hard. They are to small to pick them up when they're moving.

that'd be sick. My discord is just slushyrh

Really cool and unique game. Really good concept and execution. Feels classic and retro but also modernized at the same time.

Like 2 minutes or something like that.
