My read is that, if it can’t run on an old 486 from the early/mid 90s, then it should look and sound like a game from that era. ANSI/textmode graphics, the iconic 16-color EGA palette or the two ugly four-color CGA palettes (yes, I know there were more than white/cyan/magenta/black and green/yellow/red/black in CGA, those are the two most common ones), PC Speaker beeps, OPL-sounding background music, all those are hallmarks of DOS gaming as someone who lived through that era.

(You know, games like Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Zone 66, Solar Winds, and One Must Fall 2097 ALSO being from the 90s and exceeding most of, if not all of, those constraints. :v)

Bip-bo-beep~

The killwalls repeatedly pissed me off, so I think the trolling is good.

Of COURSE I’m going to play it again sometime and try to do better than I did last time. Damn my love of arcade action despite not really having the reflexes for it anymore

So I hate infinite tigers but I do love running for my life from rapid-fire tigers. (I was not trolled by the dark maze tho. Sorry ;_;)

(DISCLAIMER: I have never played The Plutonia Experiment)

I agree with everything WiL and Dos said. Massive fuckery and requiring me to actually go outside of ZZT was awesome.

(Plus the writing was top notch, as always ^_^)

Going over all these in the order I played them:

Dink - I am not very good at The Legend of Zelda games anymore ;_; (Enjoyed the game over screen though!)

Fire A Thousand - Probably the one I had the most fun out of the four-pack with. I caught most of the references and the humor reminded me of Get That Dollar. XD

Super Wall Puncher - I haven’t punched all the walls ;_;

ZZTorture - Cute. (I had fun. =p)

My friends weren’t up for playing this, unfortunately (Mage: The Awakening game in progress that they were keen on finishing) but the rules do look very solid, and I like the art style in the Print and Play pack!

Why yes, I did indeed complete that one board legitimately.

(That was the one I said I was gonna be really angry about on Discord.)

Best score is 212.

Has an ending you need to see to believe!

Hm. There’s something about this game that seems a bit familiar, but maybe I’m reading too much into things… =p

I am not gonna lie, I was legit yelling about ZZT and certain mechanics of it during one gig, but the art board afterward was well worth it ^_^

Is it wrong that I see this and immediately think “holy shit, a sci-fi hack of this would be really amazing?”

Because I think it would be amazing. :v

To be fair, I was going more for Robot Finds Kitten than ADOM in Keyko’s stockroom. :v

I still think I badly overcompensated for the difficulty by going 1 Gem = 5 Health and 1 Ammo = 10 Rounds, though. (And the colors, well, I’ve always had and ever will have a place in my heart for sixteen color EGA graphics, and by God, I am going to use them all!)

I have no idea what in the world was going on but I had a hell of a fun time getting that dollar!

The art definitely contributes to the troll factor in this =p

(And Psalty sounds like he’d get along real well with Keygan XD)

I got lucky picking the fresh milk on the first try. =p

This game’s got a very lovely graphic style, and I had fun with the lockpick puzzle! =)

The mirror in Samantha’s bedroom surprised me ^^

All in all, this was a fun little trollgame =p

I beat the game on Easy, but I think I broke the duplicator on Medium. XD (That’s on me, I forgot how they work in ZZT. =p)

I don’t think I’m smart enough to figure out Hard Mode ;_;

I did like the pretty door at the end of Medium difficulty though! ^_^

Ah, youth. This brings back a lot of fond memories of going to Jenkinson’s arcade with my parents when I was younger.

(Except, of course, the games at Jenk’s worked as intended. =p)

PONG got me the first time I played this, but I gave it another shot and realized what was going on. No lie, I’d probably be willing to play a full-on non-troll Thunder Roadster (I’d be more willing if I didn’t crash out near the finish line because my finger slipped…)

Loved this game =)

(And yes, I did laugh at the plant asking if I was me. XD)

I’m going for a Helm hack, myself, towards a subject near and dear to me.

(Not magical girls. =p)

I’m just worried I’m gonna wind up making some crappy borderline-unplayable Starfinder wannabe instead of an OSR-inspired sci-fi game.

It was fun, both making a game and playing everyone’s games!

I am not very good at this game ;_;

…well, at least I wasn’t asked to do the level backwards.

"Where's my gems?" "You're a jerk." "LOL"
