Hi all! We have recently published our small indie platformer House of Cards that was developed as a school project over the course of a semester.

Controls can be found in the options menu, and are also displayed through an interactive tutorial. The default font can for some be a little difficult to read, so the settings menu also has available alternatives to assist you in that event.

House of Cards spawned out of the idea of  straying away from the typical way players would interact with platforming, and so your default moveset is quite limited, to be enhanced by  cards.

The game is quite short, with only three levels, and is designed to serve as a sort of prototype in testing our skills. If you do have time to play it, please leave a comment or review!

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah some more polish would help for sure

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the card theme could have used a little more connection to the game. And yes absolutely could have used some more polish with things such as that music in the scene switch.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it

Yeah, that's the biggest issue we had designing it, how to give the player control without making the game all to easy. Overall we decided to lean more towards the easy side because at least the full story would be able to be experienced that way. If we had the time we would absolutely be spending more time on balancing and tweaking how the various changes are actually communicated to the player.

I think some more gameplay is needed for sure, as it's quite simple and there isn't much of a challenge aspect other than not clicking on the red. The graphisc and sound designed complement each other very well, nice little mining game.

Nice game! The only suggestions I have are from a sort of polish standpoint, I feel like a way to zoom the camera, or even pan around with the mouse would be a very nice QOL feature. I like how the game builds up over time, it's very well-designed and the graphics are great!

The graphics, sound design, musical composition, and game design are phenomenal, especially considering the time span to create this in. I don't really have any critiques to give, although maybe implementing an in-game tutorial would be a good idea? Not sure if that would be needed though, it's a really solidly designed and intuitive game, great work!

This is a really solid game! If I could offer a few suggestions gameplay-wise, it would be nice to be able to see a live counter next to your money of how much your machines are making passively, like a $/hour type of element to the UI. Another suggestion would be to allow the player to click on the actual machines themselves to work those machines, as this offers much more incentive to get to the more expensive machines earlier. Graphics and music wise they are both very solid, and the coin sound effect is so satisfying! Really great game.

I think the overall concept is solid, but needs a lot more workshopping to get an engaging game out of it. The biggest issue is the player doesn't have much to do. Either the train needs to move much faster, or the player needs to have other actions to take along the journey to fill the time. The sound effects got repetitive easily, and were quite loud, so some audio balancing work would be nice. Overall, it's the foundations for a nice game, but it just isn't quite there yet.

It's an interesting concept. Jam-wise I'm not sure that first world war counts as Industrial Revolution, since many people agree the Second Industrial Revolution firmly ended in 1914, the first year of the war. But I suppose you could make an argument there. The sounds and graphics are good for a game jam, as is the gameplay. My thoughts on if you want to take it further would be that it absolutely needs some better directing of the player, as when you first spawn in it's a little unclear what to do. An option to change the inverted controls would be nice, but overall it's a unique game with a lot of potential to be something great.

A very intriguing idea for the jam, I think it would absolutely need a few more elements to be considered more of a "game" game. But overall those elements are few, an in-game highlights based tutorial would be handy, and a game loop is needed, something along the lines of managing that supply and demand with consequence could be simple enough. Overall a very interesting entry.

Wow! This art is incredible! Everything from the static textures to the animations of the elevator and furnace, it's just so well drawn! I think you could really be onto something with the albeit basic gameplay design as well. Something along the lines of having to manage getting miners to their proper floor on time and not making them all wait in a long line could be a neat concept. Would love to see this art style get backed up by some music and gameplay.

I think the animations need some work, the pickaxe animation, for example, doesn't sync up with the bar dropping nor with the sound effect playing. And the walking animation feels like it needs to be synced up with the actual walking speed a little more. But minor animation issues aside, I think this game was really well done. The backgrounds are beautiful, the music sets the perfect tone. From a gameplay standpoint I really like the idea of seeing how far into the mine you can go and still get back, but I think it takes a little too long to actually get back, and you're left simply holding down the button for a very long time. I'm not sure what sort of fix could work here, but thought I'd voice the thought anyhow. All said, it's a great game and very well suited to this jam!

This game has lots of potential. The main issues I had were all technical with how the game ran in the browser. I like the overall ideas, but I think it still has a ways to go before demoing will give you more versatile feedback, keep it up though, excited to see how this one turns out in the long run.

Very unique idea for the jam, I'm not sure if it falls into the Industrial Revolution theme, but I suppose it is an industrial revolution. The art is very well done, though the music does get a little repetitive after a long time playing. Gameplay-wise, it's a very well-designed game, and I had a ton of fun playing. Great game!

Thank you!

Great game! I think it may have been a bug but on some of the levels if you stood perfectly still the guards wouldn't actually attack you, so you could hit everything from far away. The audio got a little bit repetative at times, but overall the gameplay is really solid fun, and the sort of game that can really go a long way.

Love your game! Simply fantastic execution of a very well thought out idea, the graphics are gorgeous, though I can't help but notice the lack of audio, which I think would really help elevate the game even further. That said though, this is a great idea and could definatley become a full release some day with some extra levels.

Loved the game! Very historically accurate and very easy to understand gameplay loop, though I must say it was almost a little too easy? I think raising the amount of the more negative events happening would give the player a bit more to worry about. All in all a great game!

The art style is simply perfect! It meshes so well with the game style and music! I love the attention to detail around the shop with all the little candles as well, adds a lot. Gameplay-wise, I felt quite often like there wasn't anything to do, and maybe giving the player a job of their own or some adverseries. Like rats attacking the machines could give the player some more control over the game. All in all a great game for this jam.

Nice game! Loved the graphics and music/sfx. I feel like the minecart system needed a little more refinement but maybe that's just me. A great spin on the classic clicker game.

Really neat game! I think a clear tutorial and more direction is needed, as maybe it's just me but when I first loaded I was confused by the big "NEXT" text that seemed like a button to me, but wouldn't work until clicking a choice on the page. Maybe some more player feedback would be a good way to show it is indeed a button, but there are other things to do first. Once you get going it's got a really solid setup, nice game!

Yeah, whether or not to show the player what their choice would do in advance was a pretty common question for us, especially how to show it without giving too much away. There is a highlighting effect when you hover over a stat, but it is pretty subtle and only shows which stat would be affected, and not if the stat would go up or down. Regardless, glad you enjoyed a part of it (:

A bit buggy, but an interesting game. I really enjoyed the sound effects, especially having them be situated in the space, but found the music a little bit repetitive after a while. I think the gameplay could have benefited from having a bit more direction given to the player, as there were a few times I found myself stumbling around unsure of where to go next. Overall though, a solid entry!

Very intriguing game, I think the controls were a little clunky, and the button click sound effect got annoying after a little while. I also found the text a little difficult to read at the resolution it was set to. Lots of potential here, but I think it needs some more story and design work.

This game has so much potential to be a great stealth adventure, but there are a lot of issues in the difficulty department. The first thing I would mention is how it's difficult to tell when one of the guards is going to spot you, being crouched right next to them doesn't set them off, so it isn't easy to understand what will. One idea might be to implement a mini-map type of thing which could show guards vision cones, to make it feel to the player that it makes a little more sense when they do get caught. This was a great idea for the jam, and I never would have imagined a game about espionage would fit so well into the theme, but it really does!

This game is absolutely incredible! The art, the music, the tutorial, the sheer amount of polish and the simply fantastic game design! This is the kind of game that if I didn't suck at time management tasks I could play for hours on end, the only slight critique I could offer is it would be nice if there was some sort of on-screen arrow or something as to indicate a task that was almost out of time. But beyond that this game is brilliant!

Really interesting idea, I love how hectic it gets ramped up the more you play, this is definitely a game that would benefit from having a few extra levels. I found the music got a little bit repetitive after a while, but the sound effects were really well done. I think the game could have benefitted from a very brief tutorial, but it's a really great concept and a fantastic idea for the jam.

Wow! This is such a cool idea! I found the music really great, but the sound effects seemed to only be playing in one ear and were quite loud. Gameplay-wise it's a really enjoyable game loop when I'm able to hit something, but it seems like the key detection system could have used a little refining, or maybe there could be a practice stage where people would learn exactly how long to hit space for. All in all a great game!

(1 edit)

I loved the idea of the game and the cover art made me want to play but when clicking to run the game I got hit with this Error: "

The following features required to run Godot projects on the Web are missing:

Cross Origin Isolation - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)

SharedArrayBuffer - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)

"

Loved the sound track, very much sets the scene well. I found I would only really hit with one of the hammers after a while because it got too difficult to try and manage "refreshing" them with A & D keys. A very solid game loop and a great idea for the jam.

Love the art and music in this, as well as the overall idea behind the game. There were a few glitches with the ladder hitboxes going between levels which made it hard to progress, and I think the steam slowing you down could have been a little more gradual or not a permanent effect, but overall a really nice entry to the jam!

Thanks so much! Glad to hear you liked it (:

Yeah unfortunately we couldn't get the respawn system functional in time, glad you liked the part you could play though!

Thanks! Happy to hear you enjoyed the game (:

Thanks so much for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, the floor bug you encountered had us quite stumped as well, you're supposed to respawn if you fall but we couldn't get that working in time.

Thanks, glad to hear you enjoyed it. We unfortunately didn't have time to develop the combat system as much as we would've liked to.

Amazing! What a neat concept! I love the subtlety of the music, it's just the right level to keep you entertained, 10/10!
