You could try asking the community in Discord! http://discord.gg/YvXrB62

keep in mind you can interpret the theme in a lot of ways. You could make it a game about manipulating probability, or a game where "odd" things are good, etc.

you can if you share them here and/or in the community discord for others to use if they want so it's not an unfair advantage

VODs of the livestream can be found in a YouTube playlist here and in a Twitch collection here. The same videos are in both so watch whichever you prefer! The judging deliberations have not happened yet but after they are streamed the VOD for that will be added in the same place.

yep those sound great

Your game MUST involve cultivation as a major theme. A nod to the secondary theme will be expected but you won’t be held too rigorously to it. In other words, the concept of cultivation should be fundamental to the game, the connection to “household goods” can be tenuous if you really can’t think of anything.

Great tips!

there is a secondary theme announced the moment the jam begins

We always try to make sure that the secondary theme is broad enough that it's easy to work into your idea but specific enough that you wouldn't be able to cheat and start early without knowing what it is!

The next Dogpit Jam begins June 10! https://itch.io/jam/cultivation

You can go ahead and fix it; judging will just be based on the version we downloaded at the close of jam.

yes! you can check out the VODs of jams past here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGu0wtYct94lFuAKN_SrFAg/playlists?view=50&sort=...

Schedule for the upcoming livestream on the weekend of January 28-30th.

The stream will take place at https://twitch.tv/manuelaxibanya

Judging will happen on a separate stream, probably aired the weekend of February 5th. I will send an update once the exact date and time is known. You can also check https://twitter.com/TeamDogpit for the latest updates.

this was fixed.

You can watch these videos to have some idea of what judging is like!

The main theme is Virtual Pet. Secret Theme is "In The Zone," it's a tradition in dogpit jams to have an additional theme announced right at the start of the jam. This secondary theme is mainly relevant for community choice voting and breaking ties. It's very broad so it's a good idea to incorporate it if you can, but it's not strictly required

yeah go for it

also, I'm super sorry about the delay in fixing this; the project is from 2017 and I've been having a hard time getting it to build again! If you can get me your purchase ID, I'll happily initiate a refund. You can tell me here or via email, info@teamdogpit.com -- also, if you get me your email/email me, I'll give you a key to my other commercial release, The Cherry Orchard, for your trouble. Again, apologies!

Thank you! That's helpful!

Howdy

Hey thanks for letting me know! I'm going to look into this ASAP!

The terminal output you're getting is the same output that displays when the game successfully launches. Can you look at

~/.config/unity3d/Team Dogpit/The Cherry Orchard/Player.log

and see what the logs there say?

thanks for letting me know; I’ll look into it tonight and get back to you ASAP.

Hey folks! There were a lot of great games with a large amount of content so we’re pushing judging back by a week so that we can make sure every judge has time to play all the top picks! The judging stream and announcement of winners is now scheduled to take place at 6PM CT on June 5th! Mark yer calendars!

EDIT: We moved the stream date to June 12! Thanks for being flexible!

View the livestream schedule here! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NSWTw2J4CAQRIyWgbNxl0Eq6PiE8yjwevX7vukxt...

See this topic on what to expect during and after the stream! https://itch.io/jam/dogpit-sim-jam/topic/798360/judging-brackets-livestream

If you didn't start working before the jam started and it follows all the other rules, then yeah, it's fine.

Hey folks! The livestream of the entries will take place on Friday the 22nd, Saturday the 23rd, and Sunday the 24th. An exact schedule of what games will be played when will be posted by Wednesday! Judging is tentatively scheduled for 7PM CT on Friday, May 29, but if judges have conflicts it may be postponed. All streams will take place on https://twitch.tv/manuelaxibanya

What to expect during the livestream

Games will be divided randomly among judges. Each judge must play every game in their assigned block before the livestream. (They can play all the games in the jam, they just HAVE to play the ones in their block.) Each block will be streamed with their judge as guest, and myself going in blind and playing the games for the very first time.

What to expect after the livestream

After this, judges nominate top picks from their block. There is no minimum and no limit to the number of nominations per block. (So potentially no games or potentially all games could be nominated as a top pick.) Judges can also nominate games from other blocks as top picks. Every judge MUST play ALL the top picks. A game that wasn't nominated as a top pick is still eligible to win, but if nobody went to bat for it at this stage, it's not very likely that it will.

Judging deliberations will take place during the week and are prerecorded then edited for time. The deliberations will be streamed the soonest Friday afterward (likely to be the 29th.)

How winners of judged categories are selected

The winner of every category except Community Choice is determined by consensus; there is no voting among judges. Each judged category is considered one by one with Game of Jam as last. Every category except Game of Jam will have a winner and runner-up selected. If the winner of Game of Jam was the winner of any previous category, the runner-up is promoted to winner of that category. That means it's not possible for one game to sweep EVERY category.

How the winner of Community Choice is selected

Play and vote on the other games in the jam!! Support your fellow jammers!

Who are the judges?

You will be judged by a diverse assortment of game developers, streamers, and voice actors. Confirmed:

Lineup may change, final judge list will be posted with stream schedule on Wednesday.

Heya! The stream schedule will be posted after the close of submissions -- as I'll be using that to divide up blocks! I will send it as a mass email to all participants as well! The stream will happen at https://twitch.tv/manuelaxibanya !

You can't have started working on your game before this jam started.

Yep! The jam's themes are pretty broad! You can basically make the theme mean whatever you want as long as there's some connection to one of the meanings of its words!

I picked this theme because you could interpret it many ways. Here are some suggestions:

  • in a way related to the idiomatic expression
  • temperature (degrees)
  • angles (degrees)
  • a title from a university or other postsecondary education (a degree)
  • physics and gravity (matter)

someone on twitter joked about making a game about deodorant because of the brand "Degree" and I consider that valid!

it is until the beginning of submissions. Check the countdown timer on the jam page!

Yep!

my builds

heh well it looks like a lot of the builds I tried to kick off went through after all (I tried several times in the hopes that it would go through!) interestingly I hadn't tried to push in about 5 hours yet two builds somehow manage to squeak through an hour ago. v strange.
