Thanks for your suggestions! I was going to implement music and sound effects volume sliders but I run out of time unfortunately. I will be sure to add it though!

Hi, you asked me to review it so here I am: Overall I think it's a really cool concept, though it is super similar to Snow's Hearth (I'm sure that both you and the other dev didn't cheat ofc). I think that the player movement could be a bit faster. I am also quite confused about what's happening once I add the wood to the fire. The screen went black, did I loose? Still, it's an interesting game and with more content and smoother movement I could see myself playing it
Honestly speaking, this might be the best game I played during this jam! It's super addictive just like vampire survivors. If I HAD to make one small comment is that the winter theme might not be AS visible as with other projects. At least I feel like you mainly focused on the 1-Bit part. Still an amazing game!
An interesting concept and definitely an original take on the theme, as I didn't notice any other ice skating games. Couple of improvements:
I think you should replace the "How To Play?" button with a screen appearing after you click play that explains the controls. It's hard to grasp the controls by oneself, so clicking the button is mandatory anyway.
I would definitely like to see the trick mechanic improved upon, because for now it's only a matter of clicking one button in the correct time and there isn't any visual feedback.
It's definitely not something I would have expected to see in a game jam, but if you wanted to work on the game after this jam, I think that adding a leaderboard with highest scores could go a long way.
Overall, I think you made a very strong basis for an interesting game as I liked the movement mechanics a lot after getting used to them. Adding music, animations, and more tricks could definitely make this an amazing game. Good luck on your future projects!
At first I wasn't exactly sure what to do, but then I had a very nice experience. I really like how the beast/monster didn't have an exact form but was blocking the snow. That being said (it might just be because it is not a type of game I usually play), I would increase the number of snow particles to make the monster a bit more visible. Oh and the game doesn't exactly scale properly on 16:10 screens. If you would want a fix then just increase the height of the white rectangle acting as a ground (as I was able to see below it on my laptop when in full screen)
Hey, thanks for the feedback! Honestly the melter/burner frequency was kind of a last second decsion. Originally in the "maze" level the melters were supposed to be constantly on. But then after finishing it it took me about 20 minutes to beat. Usually developers are a bit better at their game jam entry then new players so making the burners turn off was my way of making the levels easier. But then they turned out too easy haha
It might take some time but I will make sure to test them all. If you have some spare time of your own, please check out mine! https://techno-mag.itch.io/thawstroke
Hi, my project is really lacking in reviews, so it would be a great help if someone could go and take a look. Thanks! https://techno-mag.itch.io/thawstroke
Hey, I believe that it is a really cool concept! I love the art style. For now it's hard to rate the gameplay highly because as you said it yourself in the description, it is not exactly finished. I am really interested in how the game will look like if you decide to continue development. Few tips:
For the first few minutes I wasn't really sure what to do at all. I broke the block next to the axe stand and tried to leave the area. It would be nice to indicate that we are supposed to dig down :)
I think that adding an outline to the tile that you can break would help a lot. While we are at it, it would also be nice to be able to break tiles diagonally from the player - this way we could make make-shift staircases for getting back to the surface.
I already saw that you have many ideas regarding this project from your itch.io page and they all seem great! I followed you and I can't wait to se where this project goes
Hi, thanks for the review!
The first few levels were supposed to be the "tutorial" levels where the player gets to learn the main mechanics of the game. I was going to add some text, arrows, or other infographics to tell the player some things. In case of level 4 when the melters first appear, there was supposed to be an arrow and text "Warning: HOT". Unfortunately, I didn't have time to add these haha. They will surely be there if I ever release the game! I like the idea of pixel smoke, but I'm not sure how it would work in the top-down perspective. I feel like it has been really hard to show that something is hot with just 2 colors, but I will surely work on it.
I think the game is a bit smoother without the snowball being always centered, but I didn't think about how that would influence gameplay. I really like your idea of controlling the ball from anywhere on the screen, I think I will implement it!
As for the physics, yeah, it's not perfect. I think Godot has some troubles with the fact that the collision body is being continuously resized by the melting mechanic. I will do my best to improve it though!
The 3rd level's mechanic with the path only being accessible when the player is small was actually supposed to be the main mechanic of the game! Then I realized it may be harder to fit into levels without being repetitive than I thought. I'm glad you enjoyed it though, I will make sure to create more levels with this mechanic if it was memorable to you.
I will definitely consider releasing it, although I may not have too much time to work on it in the upcoming months. Thanks for the very detailed feedback! It's really nice to hear that someone out there likes your game, no matter how small it is.
Hey, the game is really fun! I loved the smooth implementation of the dash ability. A bit of feedback: I think that some visual or sound clues for when you successfully hit an enemy are needed. Many times I wasn't sure if I managed to hit an enemy. Now, truthfully I am pretty bad at this types of games, and I could only play using a keyboard and a touchpad now, but it was really hard for me to hit monsters without being hit myself. Maybe you could increase the player's weapon range just slightly? But then again, I may just be bad at the game haha. Overall, I had a great time, I really liked the deign of the flying monsters. Good luck on your future projects!
Hey, the idea seems interesting but the game won't load. Errors: Cross Origin Isolation - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)
SharedArrayBuffer - Check web server configuration (send correct headers). One of them is a setting you need to enable, the other is related to the files you uploaded to itch.io. Respond to this if you need some assistance, but there are many YT tutorials on it so I'm sure you will figure it out
No problem! Honestly most of the feedback i gave was in "if you wanted to continue developing the game after the jam" direction. It's really good for the time constraints but if you ever planned it to make it into a full game, i mentioned some things that might be important. One more thing that i think i forgot to mention last time: there is a very minor bug regarding the knife - it renders on top of the player. Should be an easy fix. Good luck on the further development of the game, or other game jams
Hey, a very interesting game. I hope you will release it soon as I'm super intrigued in what's happening!
Some general feedback:
Gameplay: Very interesting story, but I'm not the greatest fan of the press "E" to interact implementation. At first, I thought that I would interact with the object "fully" and walked away after the first interaction. It would also be nice to have some kind of notebook to look at already acquired information (but it's definitely a nice-to-have, not a necessity).
Music: No deeper thoughts here, kinda repetitive, but I didn't mind it too much.
Art: I understand the jam time limitations, but the unchanging player sprite during movement looks kinda weird. I would recommend adding at least a back sprite to show which direction the player is facing. Overall, it's pretty visible that you worked on some assets a lot longer than on others, so I think that if you have more time to work on the game, it will look a lot better because you have the abilities.
Theme: Happens in winter, full marks haha.
Originality: I know other people also made some story/detective games, but I still think that the game is original in its own way.
1-Bit: Yup, only 2 colors at once. Nice idea with this sudden red, it really made the situation seem much dire.
Overall, I am super interested in the story and I think that if you put some more time into art and music, this could be a really great game!
