This was a lot of fun to play! The story is fantastic and it sets up the game really well. The artwork is really beautiful. It's going to be really cool once you have the full story fleshed out and some of the bugs ironed out. Only major bug to report was the whole premature end cutscene issue. Those indentations will get you when you least expect them ;)
I really enjoyed playing this! I love the quirky aesthetic and the idea is a good one. It did have a pretty steep learning curve right out of the gate. Personally most of my trouble just came from there being so many option to start with and the fight is super unforgiving if you pick the wrong things. That's not necessarily a bad thing as there are people who really like that type of gameplay, but it is something to be aware of. The gameplay is really solid though and the controls felt super intuitive. Nice job!
Nice work! I don't really have much to add that hasn't already been said. The art is really nice and the idea has tons of potential. I too am in the camp of people who accidentally deleted skills before realizing how to actually equip them. It might be worth adding an "are you sure you want to delete" window that pops up or something. Otherwise, I really like the direction you are taking this
Seems to be a well made game. Good work! I think this is a bug so I'll bring it to your attention. When I lost and clicked start again, the extra candles don't seem to spawn back. Not sure if I'm just missing something or they really are a "one-time-use" item. Great job on the art though. It's very detailed and as a nice aesthetic to it.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, it was started and finished in two weeks :). I think part of it was, I forced myself to only implement this things that I initially planned (which is historically really hard for me to do)! I actually more or less had enough time work on polishing for the last few days.
As far as the enemies go, that's actually one of the first things on my list of things to improve. I even debated taking them out entirely, but I decided they add something to the gameplay, even if they are too easy right now. Definitely a proper cooldown too.
This has all the makings of a really good "tough-as-nails" platformer. Plus the whole concept of having a time-limit be a natural part of the story is perfect. I do think the penalty for failure is a bit steep, but I also know checkpoints are probably not easy to put into a game like this. The difficulty curve starting out is pretty high, but you do get used to it quickly. Once I got the hang of it, it was a lot of fun and very addicting. Good work
(edit) Bravo on the idea. I thought it was brilliant!
I appreciate the feedback! I'm planning to work on it a bit more just to round it out after the judging period. Enemy attack feedback is definitely on the list. Also more enemies in general. I'll also work on the text intro a bit. Admittedly that was sort of hacked together on the last night before the submission😅
I really like this game and I can tell you put a lot of thought into it. I'm not sure if its a bug or a skill issue on my end. There were quite a few moments scrolls wouldn't activate properly. Like I would press 'q' to activate high jump then I would jump, only to realize high jump wasn't actually activated. It was especially noticeable on the double jump. All that said, I really like the environment and art style. Great submission!
This is a super fun game. I really like the idea of dashing through enemies to heal. It incentivizes player to get up close to enemies rather than run away. I don't mind the fast paced gameplay. I think maybe having a short acceleration period would help help the movement feel a bit better and give the character some weight. Otherwise, the gameplay is great. Good work!
Great artwork! I especially love the animation you put into the trees. I know this stuff is a steep learning curve and there's a lot to learn. Keep at it. There's a lot of potential here.
P. S. If you're looking for feedback, I see you're using Godot. Check out something called y-sorting for sprites. It's the technique that allows a sprite (like a player sprite) to either be in front of, or behind trees depending on their Y position. It helps add some perceived depth to the world.
