Anyone else making non-game content?

I'm using this site to upload my zines and literature because it doesn't have aggressive content policies like some other self-publishing sites, and seems a little more friendly to indie creators.

(I do actually have game idea, but they're a much lower priority because I don't know when I'll have time to finish them, lol)

Anyone else working on comics, writing, or other projects other than games?

I uploaded a few books, but had little luck with them. Did much better with tools, if it counts. But I bought books and comics here and still have a long backlist.

Any comic reccomendations?

Try Crypts & Cantrips, also O Human Star. The latter is finished.

Awesome, thanks! Always looking for more cool indie stuff to read :)

I've released albums in here. I use the odd track or 2 in games but they are mainly stand alones. Would get more audience on bandcamp but the simplicity of this site makes everything so easy!

Oh that's awesome!!

Yeah, I really like the simple layout. Makes everything easy to keep track of.

Oh that's cool! I like stories that get told across multiple mediums. Makes it feel more like a world getting explored.

I was able to put a song together quickly using "Short VGM generator".

How did you download the song from the tool?

Oooh! I hadn't thought to upload zines here! It was often just the developer's log, really, that I'd used. I might poke around - it would be interesting to have something like that on here! Maybe a character-based fashion zine, etc... sounds nifty!

(+1)

Yeah I've seen a couple of people post zines. It's convenient because you can just pop up a PDF

A fashion zine sounds awesome!!

(+1)

Yup! And if we want it web-based, we can also use html! Pretty nifty!

I'm doing adult visual novels.  To keep production efforts down, the game play aspects are pretty limited - usually only a couple of choices in each story - so it ends up as much of a linear comic, telling a story with nsfw pictures.

Oh that's cool!

ive got some audio sample packs up.

i think itch.io is great for music sharing, love that i can embed bandcamp albums neatly OR even make a custom player as webGL to run on the project page. couldnt ask for more power for sharing the content.

If anyone wants to try the bandcamp thing, just get the embed code for your album then paste it into the description field when you edit project page. it looks great. you can center it if it suits you better.

as a side note, theres a good amount of audio/zine/other based jams to take part in.

will check out your zines, good luck :)

Yeah, this is a good site for music sharing, although I like band camp as well.

Thanks for checking my stuff out! I'll take a look at some of your music ^_^

if you have not seen this, have a look at this software for  making zines to be hosted on here in a book page style:

Electric Zine Maker: https://alienmelon.itch.io/electric-zine-maker

JS-ZINE:https://jeremyoduber.itch.io/js-zine

might be useful.

I'm on itch to post zines as well! I might end up posting text-based games sometime (i haven't got any game-making experience so anything with graphics is probably a no-go haha) but for now i'm focusing on my visual stuff. I like how easy it is to share a printable version for those one-page zines - the final layout looks pretty weird when you unfold it and i wouldn't want to post it to more image-focused platforms (not to mention it'd be too low-res to bother printing lol) but i like being able to put it up as a second file in the same project!

There's so much interesting stuff on here i could be browsing for days!!

That's awesome!! How do you make the printable version?

I also wanna make text-based games sometime. I love working with Twine.

Nice! I haven't spent much time using twine yet but i'm excited to try it out properly! Hope you can get round to them, have you got any set ideas yet? ^^

Forgive my awful mspaint template but a one-page zine will look like this when it's unfolded! The red line is the line you cut to be able to fold :) I tend to make mine on paper and then scan them in so the print layout is their default and then i crop the images and put them into a pdf for the web version!

Oh that's a great idea!! Now I really wanna make some 1 page zines XD

I uploaded a comic here once.

I make comics and there's not really a community around comic strip type of things, so after searching I found this place to be the best around for distributing zine / book type things. So far I'm pretty happy, and this compliments instagram and Tapas quite, quite well. Granted, always a bit hard to get exposure, but such is life. In case you're interested, the Badly Drawn Creatures can be found from here: https://badlydrawncreatures.itch.io/

Of course there is. Try ComicFury.

Oh thank you! Have to check that out! The audience is kinda split between platforms really. I mainly use Instagram and Tapas, but should deffo try this out. Maybe webtoons too, actually.

i was actually planning to make some comics based on my visual novel in development so i don't lose interest in making the game lol

I also write books

Yeah I like to draw and have uploaded about 10 funny-ish zines so far. Also made a random cartoon head generator in HTML5.

I got more toys too like a pixel aquarium, fireplace and relaxing waterfall with falling rocks and plunging boulders.

Itch.io is just so damn creator friendly for my hobby, it's a blessing.

I make animation and comics too but I want my first project on here to be my game (about to start the second round of playtesting).

I play music a bit but mostly for fun now or to use in projects. (I composed one short piece as the theme and then covered some traditional public domain songs for my game)

Oh, I'm curious about that part of itchio. Do you people get many readers here? I was wondering if this is a good place to publish a comic because there's Webtoon and Tapas but I wonder about itchio's comics popularity

Vocabulot hit a home run in that regard I think.

We've quite a selection of non-game contents: animated movies, soundtracks, ebooks, comics and artworks packs.
