Keep the spoilers in the other thread, thanks <3

I was camping on the page waiting for the drop. I'm almost crying opening the EA version and hearing the menu music, so familiar again. So, so, so happy, thank you so much!!

Developer

<3

I wonder what personalities the delegates and others have.

For example, I feel Ana is just a little selfish, very overt, a little imaginative, very Autonomous, very emotional, Very romantic, a little ambitious, a little traditional?, very spontaneous, and morally neutral.

What do you guys think? Or what do you think the others are?

(+1)

I've been following this game since middle school, and now I'm in college. I checked the kickstarter page for updates every month and I am so unbelievably excited that it's in EA <3

(+1)

Aly, you mad lad, you’ve done it!!! Been following the game since 2017, back when I was a broke college student and couldn’t afford much but to play your fabulous demo over and over again.

Is it weird to be so proud of a stranger? :’) Congratulations on your accomplishment, I cannot wait to play!! 💙

Developer(+1)

Hey, I'm not a stranger, we are all family here :P

Thank you so much <3 I hope you enjoy!

(+1)

yes i played the demo 3 days ago and I CANT STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS GAME it has become an obsession omg crazy

Developer

<3 Welcome to the adorable army! We are glad to have you!

Aly, I remember a long time ago, you had a list of all the delegates (including the various player's backgrounds) in order of rank. Do you by any chance still have it?

Developer

Unless it's in my tumblr history, I don't think so.

But it's pretty much

Emperor(ess) > King/Queen > Crown Prince(ess) > Prince(ess) > Grand Duke/Royal Duke > Duke > Marquis/Marchioness > Earl/Countess > Viscount(ess) > Baron(ess) > Lord/Lady > Knight (sir or dame) > everyone else

(+1)

I just wanted to say how much I love this game and have loved it for almost 10 years now. I've played it like a madman since the early access came out and I am so incredibly excited for the additional backgrounds still to come by now I am looking forward to many more runs in the future ^^

Developer(+1)

yay~ I'm so glad you are enjoying it <3

Will there be stat bonuses for completing the unlockable romances and origins?

Developer

yup!

Manipulation for weaver, people knowledge for rebel, intelligence for historian

I haven’t decided on the bonuses for Leala, Kade and Greer yet, requests welcomed <3

Oooh, exciting!

My instinct with the secret romances is to cover statistics/knowledges that haven't been covered yet - maybe warfare for Kade and street smarts for Leala? Greer is harder, I admit...we couldn't talk you into getting +10 secrets, could we?

@Aly

I wish it was possible to look at a whole list of all the choices you've made and alter one as far back as the beginning. And if changing that choice alters any other choice you've made, you'd be forced to choose a new option.

It is SO ROUGH having to replay from the beginning or even having to redo 1 week or more, if you did everything right except one choice. There has to be a more convenient way that would make a better gameplay experience instead of having to go through dozens of prompts and remember all the things you chose. There has to be a better way to get back to where you are instead of reselecting a ton of things you just did.

Especially the exploration phase. In the process of replaying from the wrong choice you made, you might forget to do a single stat increase that makes a new mistake while you redo everything to fix your old mistake.

ren'py gives you the opportunity to save regularly!

for things like rng stuff (like the practice room or library) there's always savescumming (which is, if you're not experienced with ren'py, saving before your choice and then reloading until you get the outcome you want)

the back button also lets you immediately undo a choice

(1 edit) (+1)

I don't think Ren'Py allows for this, unfortunately (or if would take a professional coder). Besides lackslyricism' tips (especially savescumming), I'll also point out:

- scrolling back/up with the mouse will let you go back quite far, often multiple choices back

- Skip mode (via the menu, or with the Tab button for me) makes it faster to zoom through previously-played sections again if you do need to restart or pick up from an old save. Especially useful with the "Seen text" setting from the options menu - this will make the game stop skipping when encountering text you haven't previously seen, which helps in confirming that you've unlocked a new thing.

- Doing a few casual playthroughs in story mode just to complete a few routes and get the New Game + stat bonuses helps a lot for cases where you keep cutting it just too close (esp helpful for things like getting best dialogue options from multiple characters at the welcome feast, like the critical last few Courage points to accept Zarad's invitations, extra Intelligence to help nailing Lyon's first date, or a little Manipulation to help out the backgrounds that can't get much from character creation)

Aside from that, yeah, you just gotta accept that it's very much a Game Played With Spreadsheets if you're going for perfection (especially if you're playing Challenge mode with no NG+). Personally I love that!, but unfortunately it's not everyone's thing.

Developer

I’m so sorry for your frustrations!

Unfortunately, Ren’Py (the game engine) doesn’t allow for that. (And the game branches so much that even if it did you would be navigating through hundreds and hundreds of checkpoints)

You’ve  gotten some good tips (re: saving and skip mode) that will hopefully help.

The game actually isn’t generally structured where you need to pick a ‘right’ answer that often. Instead almost every challenge/check is about cumulative choices. There is usually a ‘best’ answer as opposed to one right and three wrong. You just need to have done good enough towards your goals (relationships, event success etc) to succeed. (So rather than picking one exact thing, you might need to have boosted a relationship by 15 and have had several different ways to do that)

There are a few things in the game that are more stringent in their requirements (the fate of Revaire, certain epilogues, perfectly solving the mystery, legendary outcomes) but they are intentionally challenging with the intent that players will work towards mastering them in later playthroughs. Although a perfect run is possible (even on challenge mode) the first time through, it wasn’t designed with that expectation.

Some more tips that will hopefully help your experience to be less frustrating:

- story mode doesn’t just prevent bad ends, it makes it easier to get better results in challenges and events, great ways to boost relationships and reputation

-there is a quick save/ quick load option that makes going back easy, and the back button or making the scroll on your mouse go up will take you right back if you don’t like the results of your choice

-the 7kpp booklet tells you exactly how to raise each stat if you want to use your free time strategically

-befriending your servants may have unexpected rewards

-you might want to avoid Revaire as a background/romance destination on your early playthroughs

-investing in manipulation during character creation is super helpful if you want to convince people to do what you want

-secret hunting is occasionally very important for certain outcomes- especially Revaire. You might want to dedicate some time to snooping

-if there is something specific you are struggling to succeed with, the hints and tips thread and the guide thread will probably help

I hope that is useful <3

Thank you for playing and I hope your experience improves!

I have a question, Aly that is UI related. I have a lot of trouble reading some of the letters because I have trouble parsing the swirly fonts (Dyslexia coming through strong) - is there a chance there could be a plain text version in the final game, maybe in a sub-menu or as a toggle for better accessibility?

seconding the request to have plaintext versions of the letters toggleable in the final GUI! (in the meantime, the letters up to week four have been transcribed in the extended EA version of the guide)

also requesting a log page (example) the ability to read back past dialogue would be really helpful!

(+1)

Just updated the guide to put all the letters in :)

Lovely, thank you guys for the effort.

Developer

For now you should be able to see plain text versions of all your letters in the journal <3

Oh, I didn't see that at all, thank you so much, that's perfect for me already.

I don't have dyslexia but the font is still harder to read than it imho should be. I'd really appreciate the option to change it to something like arial or another common font used in text editors. Left leaning and very rounded fonts take a lot of energy to parse.

Yeah, I'm hoping the final GUI of the game has the text in the same sans-serif font as the stats section (with an option to change it to something like OpenDyslexic or something).

I also think certain interactions could benefit from being broken up into more slides? Stuff with massive chunks of text like the conversation on Lyon's first date tends to overflow the box/dominate the screen - and I'm using one of the smaller fonts, so I can't imagine what it's like in the big round one!

I am adoring playing the game I have been having so much fun with it. I was wondering, do you have any plans for an android version?

Developer

Glad you are enjoying it!

No plans for an android/phone version right now, but it’s something I might consider down the line (once the steam launch is done) if enough people want it <3

Would it be possible to have nameable save files or is it something that RenPy doesn't allow for?

I think that might be part of the revamped GUI plan? (Nameable save files are a thing in Long Live The Queen and they would be SO useful here 😭)

Developer(+2)

I’ll add it to the list to give the programmers <3
