Do you work on multiple big projects simultaneously?

I used to always finish my current project before I start a new one in order to get it done.

But now I really like to work on multiple projects, switching when I feel like it. I find after long breaks you see your game with a fresh set of eyes and flaws become more obvious. Also there is less fatigue and boredom, especially when two projects are very different from another. (Currently working on a futuristic mech game and a primitive forest survival game)

Short gamejams also help taking a break from a big main project, but I'd like to know if others also have more than one larger project in the works, and how they feel about that.

Yeah I do this. I think it helps a lot, especially when there is a game design idea I am itching to try out that isn't compatible with my main project. I love spinning up new projects to take a break from the main

I do this method and it certainly works.. until you inevitably get stuck in all of your projects, and your depression is proportionally as intense.

I haven't gotten to that part yet.

I wish I could do that but no, I focus on one project at a time. The only time I work on multiple projects is when I am commissioned to work on a project while I'm working on my own.

As for solving fatigue and boredom, I usually play some video games while taking a break to do that.

Switching between coding, art, sound also helps against monotony. Ironically the best thing for me against fatigue is going outside for a walk/run. One downside of multiple projects is getting back on track with where you are and how things work.

I found there are some projects that just make themselves - it's hard to describe it 🤔
for certain settings or themes it's just easy to come up with new things
and the project doesn't feel that big anymore - even though it is 🤔

Yeah, definitely feel that the most during gamejams and when drawing. It kind of makes itself and you don't really have full control. A fascinating part of making art.

i start a bunch of projects and hardly finish any

That's the reason I (in the beginning) always finished my current project, before starting a new one. Even if it's sloppy-ly finished, you gain a good chunk of XP when you complete the process from start to finish.

alot of my projects usually start from a funny or cool idea ill have for a game that ill end up messing around with for a week or so before i eventually stop working on it for a while, then ill just chip away at all of my backlog whenever im bored enough. as fun as it is to just mess around with alot of things its definetely best to keep a smaller scope when it comes to ongoing projects

Nothing beyond the initiation stage of development.

In other words, just concepts. It doesn't sound safe to be actively working on multiple projects without securing that one meets certain standards.
