Heyo. Really wanted to play the game, but no matter what I try it just keeps crashing on startup. Please help me :(

Windows 10 Pro Insider 19619

Reinstalled about 5 times now, tried reinstalling the Visual Studio whatever thingy as well, nothing seems to work.

Developer(+2)

Does it show any errors when it starts up?

Also, I know that there have been issues with windows insider builds in the past with this game, so that might be related.

(+1)

No, not at all. The game opens for a split second and instantly closes without ever showing an image, an error message or anything else.

Developer(+2)

Try putting this bat file in the same directory as the game and running it: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/693705264511189106/715364591516909578/run...

This bat file should run the game but open up a command window.  Take a screenshot of the command window's output after you try running the game and upload it here.

(+1)

Yeah... it didn't do much.

The second paragraph means "Press any button to continue"

Developer(+2)

Oh right it might not show the output in cmd directly.

Try this bat file, it should generate a log.txt in the same directory as the game when it tries to run it: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/693705264511189106/715737521190862929/run...

Log.txt contains the follwing output:

ALC_SOFT_pause_device present
GL Vendor    : NVIDIA Corporation
GL Renderer  : GeForce GTX 1080/PCIe/SSE2
GL Version   : 4.6.0 NVIDIA 450.82

I'm getting the same error here. I've tried all the solutions people have mentioned on the Steam forums but nothing works.  Do you have any idea what the root cause could be, and how to fix it?

I'm running Windows 10 Insider 19635.1 (and previously 19577.1000, where OneShot also crashed).

I'm running into the same issue. I'm running Windows 10 Insider 19613.1005.

Just wanted to add that I am also having this exact issue, including the log entries.

Yup, linux too.

Developer(+4)

Should have a fix for this out soon, with a new 64-bit build of the game.

Developer(+1)

This should be fixed now, please download the 64bit build of the game and try running it.

I did the update through Itch and now the game crashes on startup, so, that happened. This is after I had played a couple days ago with it running fine. Any ideas?

Developer

If you're on a 64 bit OS then download the 64 bit version of the Visual Studio C++ 2019 redistributable and install that before playing.

If the old build was working fine before though, then just download the 32 bit version?  The new zip I uploaded is a separate build, so you should still be able to access the 32 bit build.

Sorry, not sure how best to contact you. I played the 64 bit version already, Itch pushed an update today, now it doesn't start up. I downloaded the VS redistributable, just to be safe, but still nothing. I also used the batch file you sent to another commenter. Unfortunately, still crash on start up.

I really enjoyed what I played, and I will keep trying to get it to work, but figured you should be aware, in case it is affecting other users as well.

Thank you so much for the quick responses so far though.

Developer

I just pushed the 64-bit build earlier today, so it's impossible for you to have been playing that version a couple of days ago.  Please install the 32 bit version and run that instead.

Awesome, my apologies, I had assumed because it was the only version on my PC. Thank you again, for your quick response.

I had the same issue Dusty had when opening the game, when the game opened it would open a small black window for a second and close itself. I downloaded the 64-bit Windows file from 4 days ago, and the 64-bit Visual Studio redistributable. Everything should be in this picture, let me know if there's anything I'm missing!

Here's the log file:

Developer

Hmmm, not seeing anything very useful in the logs file there.  Can you try running the game again, and then checking the Event Viewer in windows to see if there's any events/logs raised by OneShot recently?  Normally if it's a hard crash like this, it'll show up there.

Developer

Oh also, have you tried downloading the 32 bit build instead?

Ah! That fixed it! The 32 bit build is running properly.

im having this problem too

OK, so today i downloaded the 32bit build and installed the 32bit redistributables from 2015-2022 (its a 32 bit system tho) and it showed this "

AL lib: (EE) ALCmmdevPlayback_resetProxy: Audio client returned buffer_len < period*2; expect break up" when i opened that batch files

How should i fix this, is OneShot incompatible?

I downloaded it like 2 or 3 hours ago and it'd be cool if i'd be able to play it now

(1 edit)

Just thought I'd mention that this is still a problem, at least for me. I'm running Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.25227.1010, and neither the 32-bit nor the 64-bit version work. The log file gives me the same error "unexpected ucrtbase.dll" error as everyone else.

I'm also having trouble with this on the Steam version. I'm on the latest version of Windows 10. The game boots to the first room, but as soon as I hit a button it instantly closes. Running with the batch file shows no logs. Running the 32-bit beta version doesn't help. Switching files from my D drive to C didn't help.
