This game clearly had a lot of thought put into its design! It is not necessarily a game of speed, but of endurance; however; all the mechanics work very well to encourage fast-flowing progression and minimal downtime, and deliberateness in all actions. Being able to pause for just a split second is really nice, as if you make a major blunder you're still stuck, but if you check beforehand, you're usually able to adjust. Having enemies drop health/resources is also a wonderful choice for players to make, as you can risk it for a chance to get stronger, or continue dodging and hoping that you're never forced to engage - but because you sometimes need to float, you'll eventually need to float anyway. You can't get far via mashing or low skill, because that just kills you so fast. There's constant pressure to keep moving, even without a timer, because of the monsters that come at you from above - this encourages fast thinking and not too much analysis paralysis, which would slow down the game for the player because they'd overoptimize, and make restarting less rapid. A really good game - really brought together by the clean visuals where enemies and players are quite readable.
Wow I loved this game so much!!! Everything about it is so stunning, the visuals, the animations, the SFX, the music! The mechanics were amazing, too, and the limitations put in place with the health and attack energy! I would have liked the space bar mechanic to be more clear on what it did in the description though haha I had no clue until you explained it when we were playing each others' games. I really love games where you try to see how high of a score you can get, and I love how you do random room generation to do that! It's so fun with lots of cool different enemies. If you continue working on this in the future I'd love to see maybe different difficulty options or something since it seemed really hard to choose if you wanted to attack for a chance at potions since the drop rate seemed so low! If you keep working on this game I hope you'll post an updated version one day!
Ahh your games are always so solid! The visual identity of this is spot on, the innate contrast between fire and ice creates a good distinction between the player and enemies, the small sprite sizes are so effective, and THE LIGHTING EFFECT, I will not get over that, simple yet it creates such a good sense of depth in the space. The main gimmick is quite thematic as well and I enjoy it as a high score objective rather than strict level-to-level. It makes every playthrough new since the rooms are randomly generated! I also like how you have the conserve your energy attacks cause depleting that also ends the game. As it stands, the game does feel quite difficult and I was often struggling to properly regain enough energy. Either the drop chance from enemies are too low or having out-and-about pickups would be super useful. Otherwise, what an aesthetically cohesive experience ahhh
As always, the art is absolutely beautiful! I absolutely love the lighting effects you have its so pretty and really helps with making it feel like the player is actually part of the game's world. I will say the windows build didn't work for me(it was saying it was missing the .pck file) and it didn't seem to let me jump, but other than that I loved the game. I think the meter on the player's ability to attack is really fun and makes it so I had to be intentional with my attacks, and not just spamming attack which is really common with this type of game.
Amazing job with this game, I absolutely love the art style and use of lighting. The gameplay is really clean and controls are easy to understand. Overall, great job!!
I really really love this game especially when I find the function of right click XD. I have recommended this game to many of my friends and they all love it.
I loved playing your game! I didn't try the windows version but I couldn't find a way to restart the game (try again after losing) without refreshing the page, which would be a nice touch (because I'm not too good at it 😬)
Sorry about that - i updated the description, you can pause to retry or exit.
This game is amazing. I love the lighting effect the little red guy gives off!
This is soooo awesome, fun, and pretty, nice work!
