I liked the concept of the game, but like others suffered slowdown when in combat. I am using a rather under powered laptop, but i couldn't identify anything that it shouldn't be able to do. The game mechanics were a fun idea. I'm a fan of the pause to think type games like FTL, so I think you were on the right track.

Developer

Thanks! I'm starting to think my old MBP is not as underpowered as I thought it was as we were using it as the baseline. I did have more optimisations on my todo list but since it seemed to be working ok for me we passed on them in favour of sleep.

yeah, I didn't knock you any points for performance. I was running in browser, so I knew I wasn't getting the best possible permance. I have a proper desktop with beefy graphics, but I was using my laptop with Intel graphics for most games.

If you pause and unpause, the enemy icons duplicate. There's massive slow-down when in combat. I sunk one enemy, good enough lol.

Developer

Oh, good spot on the enemy icons, I know exactly whats causing that and its very silly ๐Ÿ˜…

I'm not entirely sure whats causing the massive slowdown for you, I think we were pushing GLES2 / WASM a little far and there were optimisations left on my todo list but it did work ok on my 2016 MBP.  ๐Ÿค” We're going to carry on the game on after the jam but switch to Godot 4 and Vulcan as we won't need HTML5 as a target

Thank you for playing and providing feedback ๐Ÿ˜Š

ive been playing for almost an hour and I cant even sink 1 ship ToT Its not my fault I swear its these lousy crewman, I bet if they fired at the sea they'd still miss haha ^^ very fun to play, I love the unique controls and being able to relocate crew.  I think it would be easier if I could get chased but im the one always chasing haha :) great game!

Wow! I can't believe you spent so long on it, thank you! โค๏ธ Yes, the aiming is terrible. I used a formula you find everywhere for AI aiming, but it makes the assumption that the thing being aimed at will stay the same distance away while the projectile travels, which is rarely the case. I found a formula to fix it so we'll use that when we expand on the game post-jam. I also really wanted to do AI ships, but for the purposes of the Jam, it was much easier to stick them all on a Path. Fun fact, all the ships are on identical paths because Copy Paste is cheap. ๐Ÿ˜…

Cool game! Funny title. I couldn't get it to run well in my browser so I had to download it. The windows version ran perfectly fine. I agree with the other commenter, the movement system was really unique! The gameplay was pretty slow but I think that is required because of the crew member mechanics. I managed to down a few ships and I had fun! :)

Thanks so much! Yes it was slow by design, however, in hindsight, thats not the best idea for a jam. @ashteriyaki did want to go for "frenetic" so thats on me  ๐Ÿ˜…

Quite like the movement system for the ship! Feels very unique!

Thank you so much! โค๏ธ  I definitely stole it from was inspired by an old Star Trek game though ๐Ÿ˜…

Was that inspiration, by chance, Star Trek: Starfleet Command. I loved that game.

Developer

Yes, yes it was. ๐Ÿ˜Š I really liked the slow positional combat where you could make quite costly mistakes if you weren't paying attention. In hind sight, for a Jam, should have done what my co-creator said, and gone with something more frenetic.

Yeah, I struggle with that every Jam. The games that get the best ratings are the ones that are simple and intuitive, so the fun comes immediately. I failed hard on that this Jam.
