I really liked it! The visuals are great, the island feels lived in despite not (directly) interacting with any characters. I love the small touches like the knock effect and the skipping stones, and also appreciate the alternate objectives that are clearly signposted for replay value / other endings. The stealth section doesn't overstay its welcome, and there's even a 0451 safe for good measure! Also the way to reach the apartment and the context about the tenant's situation was a cool touch.

It's got a bit of everything which, for me at least, amounts to a lot. Great job!

Thank you so much! I love that you found a lot of the hidden details that I've put in the game!

Great game and visuals in 2 weeks!

Love the way this looks. I wonder what the other 3 endings are.

Fun little game!
I dig the Mirror's Edge / Antichamber style. There's potential with these platformer/puzzle mechanics.
I got the one ending for delivering all the packages so far but I like how there's hints on how to get the other ones.

Wow. I wasn’t expecting to love this as much as I did. The visuals are absolutely beautiful, like if Obra Dinn and a watercolour painting had a baby! I love the atmospheric perspective of the distant painterly effect. I could walk around this town all day and not get sick of it. The gameplay itself was also fun once I figured out what to do. Took me a frustratingly long time to find what I needed to enter the hotel, but aside from that everything was just really enjoyable. Nice to see there are a few endings, I will definitely be going back for more. Please make a full game like this. I will be all over it.

Oh, I also thought the music when you deliver a package really reminded me of Obra Dinn. I’m guessing it was an inspiration? Definitely not a bad thing.

I am very happy that you enjoyed Valerian Isle, and you're absolutely right! It draws heavy inspiration from Return of the Obra Dinn. In Valerian Isle, the ship is named the Aubergine, which sounds similar to Obra Dinn. I also borrowed the 'well done' interface from Obra Dinn and incorporated satisfying music reminiscent of it.

Valerian Isle has become a side project, and I'm still actively working on it. I'm curious to know your thoughts on approaching the package deliveries in a similar way to identify the dead in Obra Dinn. The objective would be to find each package's owner and where they live , turning the deliveries into puzzles rather than simple fetch quests.

I was also considering adding an immersive sim layer inspired by games like Dishonored, Prey, and Deus Ex. This would provide multiple solutions for each package or obstacle, making the delivery missions more articulated. The difficulty level would be based on the number of solutions available for a particular problem. the city would react to your actions, and branching events would occur based on who you choose to help, and I was aiming to do it all through gameplay rather than relying on text boxes.

I have no intention of incorporating any combat mechanics.
If there is any form of violence, it will be strongly portrayed as negative, and the entire small city will be impacted in some way.

In essence, my goal is to create an Obra Dinn-like game with a dense, believable, and intricately designed world that provides subtle clues, rewards exploration, and encourages creative thinking.

it sounds ambitious, but if this test is any good, I will pitch it to my team and upload it on Itch.

let me know what you think!

I think that sounds great! Making the deliveries into puzzles would definitely make the game even more interesting in my opinion. I haven’t played the three other games you mentioned so I can’t comment on that, but it sounds intriguing, and I agree that combat would probably not be a good fit for this game. I will definitely be looking out for any updates. Good luck!

Developer

Developer

I'm in love with the artstyle, the level design of the town is lovely to walk around each places you explore have some coins in them(even the rooftops), the painting filter on 3D is marvelous, seriously when I watch my gameplay of this game, every sight on this game is vomiting me some astonishing art that I can use as my wallpaper.

The camera system is pretty clever, covering the line of sight with boxes to get pass through them. Each doors have some personality in them and can give you some hints (also the knocking effect is awesome)

I wish that you guys extend or like creating the full polished game. I can't wait to see more

This was a lot of fun! The concept lends itself to fetch questy puzzling, but really there's a bit more going on here. Searching around, smashing pots, jumping about, crawling through vents and opening safes. Every time I was told I had to deliver the package elsewhere I was really interested in where I was being sent next. Very nice!

The cartoony and painted visuals blend in together perfectly and the sound design is phenomenal. I like that I could continue the game were I left off to search for the other endings. After getting the "Treasure hunter"-ending though, collecting a single coin would end the game again. Also the "All packages delivered"-ending happened randomly after I did it and was just exploring the island. Breaking the vases was fun, but felt a bit out of place and being able to knock on every surface seemed a bit pointless. I also hate that the tourist booth map was upside down. These are minor issues and I'm astounished how beautiful and detailed town you created in just two weeks. Fantastic work!

thank you for the feedback I'll add the bugs to the list thank you!

It's a really nice game! I had fun exploring the city. The art is exceptional and I like the little bits of music that play in certain areas or when you successfully deliver a package. I was able to deliver all the boxes except the church one. It was fun trying to figure out which building was what and where to go. The puzzles are a bit fetch-questy but you've executed it well. Overall, a good game!

Thank you,  for the kind words!

I notice a bug that prevents the door from replying to you I'm uploading a fix right now.
The main mechanic doesn't work and I've noticed it only right now T-T

Nice aesthetics, decent interaction, I got some unreal crash twice but seems like a nice prototype.

Developer

I notice a bug that prevents the door from replying to you and I fixed it you can give it another try if you want.
Is it possible for you to give me Unreal's crash log? so I can try to fix it

That was great!

I had a lot of fun wondering around the island, a really cool environment!

Being a delivery person is much more exciting (and involves more crime) than I had expected...
