Add vision cones or some kind of indication on the sides of the ship so I know when ships are in range and will get hit by my shots.
The waves often blocked my shots, but it was difficult to know when that was going to happen as it was near impossible to judge their elevation. So I had no idea when they were intersecting my line of fire.
I'm not sure how much of an issue this might become, but it looks to me like the LODs of the ships don't seem to change no matter how close or far away the camera is. It's not currently as issue as everything is fairly low poly, but might become a problem later down the line.
Maybe add some random islands to avoid (Or even some with treasure) and some friendly units who can join up with you and double up your firepower, trade with, or one-sidedly attack.
I greatly enjoyed it, I wished you could add the option to enable some sort of indicator for the shooting direction (until I got the hang of it, it was pretty hard to aim).
I guess you could also add other types of smaller ships to choose from with a forward cannon or for ramming purposes to add more variety.
The "roguelike" part of the game feels very underwhelming, so I'd suggest to focus on the mechanics and the variety of things to do instead, since it has potential for a nice long campaign.
Fun little game. I'd like a little more control in aiming and shooting. It reminds me a lot of Sid Meier's Pirates! But in that game, the ships were slower and the oceans were calmer, so it was less frustrating to aim. You also had multiple ammo types, one targeting crew, one targeting sails, and one targeting the hull. That would be a neat addition.
You should make the spyglass show a ship's hitpoints.

I like the premise. Here's my thoughts:

Nevertheless it was great. Keep it up.
