I had a pretty good time

I was quite confused at what's going on first. I didn't know how I'm dealing damage - just felt like I just collect a few cards and the battle ends immediately - it did not click with me that the weapons activate after X cards collected. When I understood the game more, it became much more enjoyable.

I still don't get the limit thing fully, I get less SP if I get a big combo going? Is SP used only for card draw?

Player agency felt very low. The best move was always obvious, and I never felt in danger. I'm guessing the shop draft is meant to be the "real" game?

UI and art is nice and meaty, but I t hink the characters could look better

Developer

thanks for playing!

yeah, unless you add skills to your build for lowering Limit

Is SP used only for card draw?

it also charges skills and your weapon. some cyan skills add Draw SP that only applies to card draw, though

kinda. since it's an autobattler, how you play on the board affects when your skills/weapon activate

i don't know if you've played the higher difficulties, but Jack mode is meant to be something of a tutorial/casual mode

awesome game. it can be a bit overwhelming a first but the tutorials help a lot, especially those who haven't played card games in a while like me. love the music as well

Developer

that's great to hear, i'm glad the tutorial how-to for playing solitaire was useful. thanks for playing!

I'd never played one of these kinds of card battle games before but it was quite enjoyable. It's relaxing even though you're technically fighting for your life (well, it is solitaire, after all). The only real criticism I have is sometimes the dialogue bubbles will obstruct view of some of the UI (though only for a few seconds), and it doesn't seem like you can click them away.

Developer

i'm glad to hear it! i think you're right about the speech bubbles, i'll try and make them transparent when hovered for the next version. thanks for the video, too!

Developer

since last demo day i added several bosses and simplified the tutorial among other things. a full list of the changes are in this devlog

nothing to report. the game looks good, sounds good and is fun to play.

it's probably the most polished, feature complete game i played so far.

Developer

thank you!

I was able to beat the jack difficulty but got a bit beaten down by my two attempts on queen. I love the visuals and the idea, the UI is also fantastic and feels great. Overall great polish and feel. My only 2 criticisms are that the game feels a bit overwhelming at first and the perks are a bit hard to understand even after reading them a couple of times. The game also grinds to a halt sometimes when both players are just looking for 1 card to progress, maybe more passive SP after idle would help? Super fun game though, it really sucks you in and the fact that you can unlock more characters and difficulties is great! Very nice.

Developer

thanks so much for playing and the kind words!

the game feels a bit overwhelming at first

if you mean by the amount you feel you have to read on the skills, then yeah, i think you're right. i'm always trying to simplify how the game explains the mechanics, so maybe it'll get better in time. that being said, the build you posted seems competently made

The game also grinds to a halt sometimes when both players are just looking for 1 card to progress

i intend for gray skills to benefit from this situation, but i feel the skill pool is still pretty small. hopefully in the future different builds will have more options to naturally build into so they don't feel like they're doing nothing when this happens

Yeah, I forgot to mention that the diamonds and keywords helped so it's good that you added that in. I look forward to the future of the game!
