New version during evaluation and rating phase?

I have submitted my game for the Jam in not yet final / "work in progress" state. My question would be if it is ok and in-line with rules to upload new version (with more complete game) during the evaluation and voting phase?

AmigaLive asked regarding my game submission earlier from Cammy, and Cammy said if updates idea was to make the game to work (a fix) then that would be okay.

I myself did a faster versions update for Amiga versions, I'm not sure if this is calculated a fix anymore, but I anyway kept them separate, that I kept the original files there so that judges could judge based upon the original versions.

However, this is just my opinion, but basically I guess Cammys main idea is to get more games to Amiga, so in that sense I don't necessarily see a problem even if someone does a huge update to his game after the submission deadline, after all, everyone has a chance for that anyway, so its not exactly unfair, well, except for those who actually completed their games before deadline.

But, of course it can be trickier question from fair competition point of view, that if someone actually sent his game to actually compete as the primary motivation, and he made it based upon the rules, then it isn't good if some keep sending major updates to the game. Also, even someone marks it clearly as having been sent after the submission deadline, I do think it will affect the rating positively, so in that sense even more unfair.

I can just say that I don't mind you or others updating the game, but don't know how others, or Cammy and the Judges, see it.

Thanks One Joyful DAy for the reply and information! Much appreciated! I have already done more than only fixes but also managed to progress with completion of the game (what I have not managed to do prior to deadline for submission). To be "fair and square", I would wait with new version till end of the evaluation unless organizers confirm otherwise. Cheers!

As a competitor myself i don't see any problem with that. Why would be a problem if a game is completed ? All the people visiting here want to see more of this games (morec levels, features, less buggy, finished, ..)! I think it is what everybody wants, isn't it!? :)

Personally, as a competitor I think it's only fair that we do not submit any gameplay or visual enhancements to our games past the deadline. Any extras can be made available after the competition has ended surely? Has anyone updated their game in such a fashion already?

Hi everyone. The judges will be reviewing the final version submitted to the jam before the deadline. However, if you want to keep updating the game on your own page so that everyone can play a more complete version, that’s perfectly fine. In the case of One Joyful DAy’s game, AmigaLive had a lot of trouble getting the game to run properly, which meant the judges wouldn’t have been able to evaluate it at all. I gave the go-ahead to submit the bug-fixed version to AmigaLive because having all the jam games on the AmigaLive server ensures that everyone can play them.

to add do this, @onejoyfulday had a working version for Amiga OS4.x but the OS3 port had some issue.. for our own convenience of testing everything on OS 3.x he compiled a working version for the system.. now optimally judges should try the OS4 release if they can as that includes the original design, but besides the graphics and performance, the gameplay expérience and idea around the game doesnt change in the OS3 port, allowing everyone to  experience the game.

Thanks for all the replies and confirmations! @Amiga Cammy, I now understand the concept and rules. @Wrath of khan, I would like to fully respect your view and I will hold back with submission of any new version until the evaluation and voting is finished. I may have sufficient time to fully complete the game :). Cheers!
