*OPEN TO GAME DEVELOPMENT STUDENTS AT ABERTAY UNIVERSITY ONLY*

The aim of the ASGJam is to problem-solve a complex issue in a unique way! The Jam theme is being broadly set by SSE and involves exploring how to educate and engage people with carbon-neutral energy sources in a fun and accessible way. The exact theme will be announced at the jam keynote on Discord.

The Jam will run for a working-week (Monday to Friday). Kicking off with delivery of the challenge on Monday the 12th July, you will develop a game prototype over the next few days finishing up on Friday the 16th. The submissions will be judged by Games Industry and Energy professionals and experts.

There are Amazon Voucher prizes for the 3 winning teams  (Winning Team £200; 2x 2 Runner-Up Prizes of  £150);

About COP26

The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31 October – 12 November 2021. The aim of this landmark summit is to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Find out more at: https://ukcop26.org/

About Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)

  • CCS is a technology that can capture at least 90% of the CO2 emissions produced in electricity generation and industrial processes, preventing the CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
  • The CO2 captured at power stations and other sites, such as heavy industry, is then pumped along shared pipelines, before being injected into a permanent storage site under the sea.
  • The UK’s Climate Change Committee has described CCS as a “necessity, not an option” given the role it will play in decarbonising energy and industry as we transition to a net zero future.
  • The UK Government has set a target for 10 million tonnes of CO2 to be captured and stored annually by 2030.
  • The UK has a major advantage in this technology with abundant storage capacity in the form of depleted offshore oil and gas fields off its coast.

About SSE Thermal

  • SSE Thermal is part of SSE plc, one of the UK’s leading energy companies and a Principal Partner to the UK Government for COP26.
  • SSE Thermal generates electricity at its gas-fired power stations across the UK, providing vital flexibility to the electricity grid and keeping the lights on for homes, businesses, and communities.
  • As part of the company’s commitment to a net zero future, SSE Thermal is focused on decarbonising this essential power generation through cutting-edge technologies, including carbon capture and storage (CCS).
