Single line of pixels and you made a game. Fantastic!

Theme:

Less is more, your game truly demonstrated that by making the game so minimal you reduced it by an entire dimension. A 1D game. This was the first time I ever played a game like this!

Visuals:

So this is interesting to discuss, how do you rate a "1 dimensional object" lol. Honestly visually the game looked fantastic for what it was. I don't want to compare this to something like the last of us or god of war, because this isn't what the game set out to be. It went for a 1D single line of pixels. The game did a great job letting the player know who they were, what the obstacles were, and had a nice uniform interface around it. Solid work here!

Music/Sounds:

This is the main area I wish the game had more time and effort put into. The music was okay but got repetitive fairly quickly. The sound effects were okay as well but nothing phenomenal.  These were very good Atari or game and watch sound effects and music. But I felt like there could have been a slightly larger variety. Again, I wasn't expecting a beautiful orchestrated piece, but something a little more relaxing and less droning/taxing on the ears would have been nice!

Overall:

So overall, I loved this entry. The super simple idea of getting to point A to point B boiled down into s ingle dimension, a single line of pixels, that was fairly well polished for the experience of what it was. I was actually disappointed when I beat the game so quickly, but I was wanting more. So that just goes to show how such a simple idea can really work so well! Congrats on your entry!

I streamed your game here, starts at minute 35:

Thanks. Admittedly I should properly expand it but didn't know how to make it interesting without it getting repetitive. Was going to add a teleport mechanic but didn't know how to make it work properly. I know the music needs improvement because, even I make Lo-Fi music in my spare time, I need to work more on my chip tune with the only other chiptune song I did was the menu theme to another pico-8 game I made called Captain Nimbus and also I need to make a quick simple tune and made one in a short amount of time.

I think you did a great job! You should be proud of this project!

I am.

This was very cool! Has a sorta existentialist food thought kinda feel to it.

Developer

Thank You (Also please tell me more about the existentialist food part. )

If you're ever interested, read the book Flatland (or watch the movie). There's a bit where the character travels to a 1 dimensional world, that simply consists of lines living on an infinite line. That might explain things better. Essentially, to them, the world only has a forward and a backward, nothing else. They can't perceive a 2nd dimension, since it doesn't exist in their world.

Developer

Oh yeah I know about that book, I saw an animated adaption off it on you tube and plan on reading the book.

Very nice game, you took the most out of only one dimension, good job!

cute little game

very fun 1d game!

Thank you!

Very interesting take on the theme. Reducing dimensions is something I didn't even consider.
Had fun playing, good job!

Definitely my favorite take on the theme so far. Well done!

Developer

Thank You :-)

its a really good idea and concept but i think it needs a bit more polish and feedback but overall is a good experience

Thanks

I think making a 1D game was a great take on the theme! The music was very nice and the overall experience was great. I would have loved if the red bits changed in sync with the music so that it was a little more predictable but either way it was a short and sweet game :) Good job!

Developer

Thanks, not sure about the music sync though because the way the red bits work is their actually squares that movement is based on what level it is with me using Pico-8's fillrect function to produce the line part thus giving it the appearance of a 1d plane with 2d objects moving through the plane (got the idea from Flatland)

Really intuative and rewarding! Would be nice to have some warning when a red line is about to appear!

Developer

I was thinking of doing that but not sure how to do with out making the screen feel crowded.

This is pretty fun! I'm always a fan of games that explore different dimensions, so this is a really neat take on 1d!

Developer

Well Thank You :-)

Good job figuring out how to make a game work in 1D. Definitely a hard design challenge. I like your music track. Your game is definitely more legible than mine, which is important for these 1D games. I also enjoyed how the instruction text gradually appeared as you progressed, functioning as something of a tutorial.

I think the game might benefit from a bit more variety. The challenges pretty much boil down to keep pace between two moving red spots or move between blinking red spots, relying on memory to for exactly where they'll be when they show up again. Perhaps you could have a small teleport/dash to let you get past small red spots or maybe there could be an exploration element of some sort or maybe you could add some story to your simple premise to contextualize things, a la Thomas Was Alone.

Developer

Well thank you for feedback. I didn't think of teleport but that sounds like something I could do. I was thinking of a story about a objects from flatland are entering line land but I'm not sure about that story.
