Wow this was fun to play! I had lots of fun navigating through the halls to the throne, and after getting a time of 12:01, I can see the potential here. If I had to draw out one negative, it would be the lack of a middle boss, to keep the arc of the game flowing. Besides that, I might just call this my favourite game of the jam! Incredible work!
Very fun! I've seen the theme usage elsewhere, but I really did enjoy this one the best out of the games that used the theme in this way. The controls, music, and everything were great, and other than the fact that there were some rooms where it felt like you HAD to lose health (not enough health drops to have a net positive), this was an all around great experience! Nicely done!
Oh my science! This actually is a truly innovative and unique game! The whole concept of having to expend health for ammo leads to some really engaging and tense gameplay, and can feel quite knife-edge and this game definitely got me feeling pumped and invested really quickly. The harder parts are really great and nail-biting. My sheldon pop vynil was probably worried about me since I was sweating so mutch!
But like jokes aside I really can't stress enough how worth it it is to give this game a chance. You really won't be disappointed. And I also can't wait to see what this excellent creator will create in the future as well, as this is a really promising start to a strong career. If there's one criticism I could give is that in the panic of the game I found myself stumbilng on the contols, but that might just be my potato keyboard. I want to commend mr. petroleum for this great piece of work, I still can't believe that it was all made in 1 WEEK! MINDBLOWING! HOLY SPOCK!
Honest score, 9.5/10
Keep up the great work!
Another banger of a game that I'll be sure to come back and play again, I'll be adding this to my Best of the BTP Game Jam Collection!
First of all I wanna say that this is a really polished game and I really like the charm of the game art. This reminds me of the first game I completed making, or at least what I set out to make, but this is a lot better and you've inspired me to make a similar game in the future.
I've seen a lot of games employ the less health equals more ammo/damage and while I would usually mark you down in innovation for that, I think the way you use it is pretty well designed. The fact that your ammo counter carries over to the next level unless its before a boss battle makes it so in each level, the player has to carefully consider how much ammo they use in each level since they won't know if they'll need a certain amount for the next level. This especially got good after the first boss battle.
As for the boss battles, I think they are very well designed. The slime boss battle was very well designed, with the enemies on the side to ensure that you don't run out of ammo was a nice touch. I did like the final boss battle better though and what a twist! I didn't expect to be versing myself and I'd say the way it was designed was genius. The fact that it adheres to the same mechanics as the player makes it good as you understand its limitations/weaknesses and how to exploit them. On my second playthrough, I just dodged his bullets, stole every health pack and just waited for his health to go down.
I think most of the enemies were designed well too. The two gun enemies as well as the skeletons were very nice as the stationary type enemies however, I think the mobile enemies need some work. Because they target the player as soon as the level is loaded, it doesn't give much time to react, especially if the entrance to the level is narrow. I would perhaps add some sort of range detection, where they only start going towards the player once they are within a certain range. I think you could've done some other moving type enemies where they move side to side or something and shoot just to add some more variety to the enemies.
The player controlled very well and I don't really have much complaints with it however, and I might be imagining things, the distance of the dash seemed to vary from time to time.
Overall, this was a great game and one of my favourites of the jam. I would very much like to see this expanded, with more enemy types, maybe puzzles and I'd love to see what other bosses you could come up with. I'll be sure to play this again once I finish rating some other games. Amazing work!
That was an amazing game! I can't believe it was made in 7 Days! Just Wow!! The pixel art was so perfect and the way you used the theme was just phenomenal. I loved the boss fight! This didn't feel like a game jam game at all. Thanks for this amazing game!
Please take some time to play and rate my game as well. I would really appreciate it! Thanks!!!
Really fun, expansive and challenging game!
Along with general snazzing up of the aesthetic, the only real gameplay change I would suggest is implementing something which meant the player wouldn't need to reload for ages upon death, as that got a bit tiresome.
There were also a couple of enemies who I felt were a bit of a push-over, at least early on, so a little more work on balance could help make those first levels all have a good punch.
Nice work though!
Truly fun game! Like the risk vs reward of sacrificing your health. At first I was a bit bummed about the move-speed but once you get the dash it is all good!
Great job!
Nice game. Need some tweaks like faster walking speed, walk at reloading, and didn't take my bullets when restoring health. After all it is a good game. Well done!
this game is soooooo good, i mean i can't tell you enoght how much i like the viuals, sfx, music, and the main mechanic of sacrificing hp for bullets so good, now the health packs served as source of hp and source of ammo, only one thing i want to point out is that i would like an actual animation or sfx for when your are "Reloading" instead of the text, that would make the game PERFECT in my opinion.
Just finished playing, i liked the music and the levels, was fun refilling my ammo and balancing between my health and it. The dash however felt a little useless and would've been better if i could dash through the enemies? Otherwise everything else felt really nice. good job :)
Just really good overall, great use of the theme, great gameplay, nice art good music and sounds. It felt really balanced too. Fun experience:)
