A pretty good game. Lots of interesting elements: several weapons, the grapple, the jetpack, how gravity works. Cool! Loved it!

I would really like to hear your feedback on my game, there's some gravity there, too, although I suspect it's much simpler than what you did :)

Developer

Thank you for your feedback. I will check your game out, when I come home.

The gravity part wasn't that difficult. I just used the point effectors component in Unity. But I had, for whatever reasons, problems to set them up correctly at the beginning. :D

Woah, it really is an amazing game ! With excellent art, music, sounds, gameplay, presentation... and it's even more impressive that it has been made by one person only in one week ! I have nothing else to say other than huge congrats ! Really fun game !

Developer

Thank you very much for this positive feedback. Feedbacks like this push me even more to make a full game out if it.

It was a tough week with programming 46h next to my daily work of 40h. But it was all worth it and I had tons of fun making this game.

Submitted(+1)

Great Game! Really cool gameplay and mechanics, just the background music that I considered a little bit repetitive. But overall great game. Congrats!

Submitted(+1)

Congrats for finished the game, well done.
Good art, the aliens are cute xD.
Fun and solid gameplay.
I'm curious, the stage is created procedurally? I tried to find a border, but apparently the stage is infinite.

Please, rate my game and leave some feedback too =]

Developer

Thanks for your feedback and it's nice that you like my game.

Yes, the stage/universe is generated completely procedural. You will never run into the same universe twice ;) And don't worry, your RAM will not explode when you fly into one direction forever, there are only 100 planets and 100 enemies in total in the scene.

I will check out your game when I'm home.

I really like this game! Good job with graphics and gameplay. Grappling mechanic was probably the hardest to do, and I didn't spot any bugs. Though the music was not so good. But despite that, game is very addictive and fun to play.

And now that I noticed... this game was submitted on the same day the game jam started. So does that mean you broke the rules and made this game before jam even started? That's kinda cheating, so unfortunately I can't rate this game.

Developer(+1)

No, I did not cheat here. When the jam started there was the button to submit your game and there you could choose between uploading an existing game or creating a new one. Somehow that date got saved for my submission when I finally released my game. I know that it is really confusing. It is also bugging me, but I didn't want to change something because I noticed it after the deadline was over. But I can assure you, that I made this game during the jam. So please rate the game. If you want evidence, I can show you my Bitbucket commits of the project ;)

Submitted(+1)

Ok sorry for misunderstanding :)

Developer

No problem. For the next Jam I will not hit that button again :D

So, i guess you are rating my game now. Thanks in advance for your rating.

This game is a very solid entry to the jam. I liked the rocket boots a lot but, didn't actually find the lasso that useful (but maybe that's just me). Having a tutorial screen was very nice and something many entries are missing, myself included. For my critiques, it felt like there was a lot of things that had overlapping uses, like the rocket launcher and the regular gun were more preference than one being stronger, so maybe make the rocket launcher a lot stronger but make it a temporary power-up, and same with the rocket boots, as they are sort of lasso replacements. But that is just my suggestion, the current way is not bad.

Developer

Thank you very much for your feedback. I really love every piece of feedback because that helps me to make my game better.

Some comments to your points:

  • The lasso can really be useful. If you get the hang of it (and combine it with the jet pack) you can move around like crazy or stay in the orbit of one planet forever. I have implemented the jet pack quite at the start of my development and added the lasso as some fun idea, which in the end, turned out really good.
  • About your point with having any of the features only temporary. This was actually the first idea, but during the development I decided to give the player all tools available to have as much fun as possible without being forced to collect ammunition, jet pack fuel or wait until the lasso can be used again.
  • The rocket launcher was stronger, but I tuned the damage down because I used it for everything. Now the blaster is better for single target damage (if you manage to hit the enemy) and the rocket launcher shines when there are 2+ enemies near to each other.

I will for sure take your feedback into account when continuing to work on this game in the future ;)

This was a nice game, i like the mechanics and could just play around in it and have fun.  Good feel, and music. This is a HIT!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much for your comment. I love that you like it and I like the mechanics myself and I can still just play around all the time after having it played for hours during development :D

I just want to be sure, but it to me it seems that my rating counter didn't go up. I'm checking my game from time to time, because I'm excited about the rating. So did you maybe forget to rate it?

I just checked your game and for some reason my rating there wasn't saved too. I just rated your game again ;)

Submitted(+1)

You're like the Space Punisher, I LOVE IT. Very fun, arcade-y game - I had a good time with this. The lasso mechanic is really neat; I feel like it could be used to do some really clever things with combat/platforming. I'd love to see an expanded version of this that features different levels or challenge instead of just survival/high scores (not that that isn't fun, I just think the mechanics could be applied to more things!). Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thank you very much for your comment and also playing my game on your stream.

It is already possible to do some nice planet lasso action, because you can basically activate it forever and use your jet pack to swing around planets multiple times.

But as you say, the mechanics turned out really great and I will for sure continue to work on the game. I choose the survival/high score type to have some finished game with a clear goal for the jam. You know, limited development time :D

Submitted(+1)

This is a very cool game! It suits the theme really well and the mechanics works great! Sounds are nice. The graphics, animations and particles are awesome! Very fun game to play!

Submitted(+1)

Loved the game! It is probably one of the best uses of the theme with a solid game mechanic!

The graphics are great! Controls are spot on! SFX very good also!

Please build upon this game! It has potential!!!

My only complain is the veeeery short loop of the background music. I believe a more soothing music would be much better.

Developer

Thank you very much for your feedback. I'm really glad you liked it. And yes, the music is my weak spot and I'm a little angry about myself that I didn't put more work into it, because I had the time :D

After getting so many good feedbacks, I'm really motivated to extend this game. I already have a lot of ideas written down and in my head :D

Submitted(+1)

Great Game! You set a pretty high standard. Lots of great mechanics and solid game-feel.

Grappling and jetting through the environment is so much fun, I might enjoy a "casual" mode without the timer.

Developer

Thank you very much for your feedback. The grappling and jetting part turned out really great and I love that too. Sorry that the timer is too short, but nothing stops you from playing several times. The map is generated randomly and is infinite, so you have plenty of stuff to explore :D

Just one question, did you also rate my game because the counter didn't go up ;) just want to make sure that I don't miss your rating.

Submitted(+1)

I'm trying to play a bunch of games before I rate any of them. Rest assured, you'll get my (high) rating before the deadline ends!

Submitted(+1)

I managed to get a score of 300 after three tries. I like the shooting and the planet lasso. One thing I would like to see added though is you have to click another button to get the lasso to retract. I really enjoyed swinging around planets to kill enemies rather than landing on them so if there were an option to make the lasso make you stay the same distance from the planet before retracting I gather the game could be made even more fun. My favorite part of the game was swinging round planets at high speed so that's why I  suggest the swinging lasso

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for your feedback. 300 is a solid score. I don't want to brag but my highscore was 740, but I have played my game a few hours during development :D

I indeed had the lasso stay at the distant it had when first attaching to the planet but that felt completely weird because this often caused you to instantly change the direction you are going. So i went with the elastic rubber-band like effect.

Regarding your problem with staying in the orbit around a planet, try using your jetpack to keep the distance. This works really nice ;) And yes, when I'm bored I also start sling-shooting around the planets like crazy. It feels so satisfying. At least until you hit a plant :D

Submitted(+1)

Dig it man! Very nice. I would love to also be able to hit w and s to go in a positive direction and negative direction. Could be mapped to the same things as A & D.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback. I already got the feedback about the W button during my development, but I did not impelment it. After reading your comment, I really should have done it. But after some time you should get used to hitting spacebar for the jet pack ;)

But I will for sure not add S for reverse, because that's not how jetpacks or rockets work :D

Submitted(+1)

I guess top five game in this jam. I know your game in LD43. I play once before. Maybe several weeks ago. In terms of this game, I made one shooting game as well and I surprised you can make shooting game so fun and close to the theme. I guess the most difficult point in this game is the physics system(gravity and drag to another planets).

Also Your guild(tutorial) designs so well although many words, you seperate them and makes players easy to read. Nice graphics but best audio. high rate now.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback. Actually we are friends on ldjam.com where I tried to help you compile your game for windows/WebGL because I really wanted to play it. I really love it that you like my game.

The physics part was quite interesting to program. The player has a rigidbody that is switched to kinematic when on the planet and switched to dynamic when in space. For the controls on the planet i'm using script only. In space I use forces for the jetpack and point effectors for the planet gravitation.

I really wanted to have some sort of tutorial that guides you through the controls while playing, but that would have been too much work for that week. But I will definitely go for such an approach if I continue to work on the game, which I'm really planning to do after the good feedback I get.

Submitted

Yeah. your LD game left one impression to me because this is my first time game jam in LD43 and it contains one wild ambition inside your game(Farmer game and balance the resources). Very fun in your game design and if you keep doing this and add some commercial elements, you can build in apple store I guess. Very impressed me. Very good job!

Submitted(+1)

i really liked this one, the controls felt pretty good and i rly liked the implementation of the theme. The graphics werent amazing but they were enjoyable and i like them. the only thing that i actually disliked was the music, but i had no problem with that cuz at mid game i stopped the music and started playing some random sci fi action playlist on youtube. Overall it was a rly good game, better than average i would say, thanks for participating with us and making this game

Developer

Thanks for your honest feedback. I chose easier graphics for this game because in my last game jam I wasted way too much time on details which where not really visible in the final game :D About the music, I really should have invested more time, but that's my most hated topic about game design. However, I know that music is important and can save or destroy a game and I will definitely get better music if I continue to work on this game.

Submitted(+1)

This game is fantastic, except for the music. Maybe the rocket laucher is a bit useless (and the icon is decompensated with the rest of the draws), but despite those things this game is amazing! Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback. Ok, next time I really put more time into music. I hate to make music, but it was really made by me and not somebody else. I hope you took that into account when rating my game, because I saw that a lot of people are taking the music from somebody else ;)

Yeah the icons on the left are a little bad, but thanks for pointing that out. I put it on my list ;)

Submitted (2 edits) (+1)

Damn, this game is so smooth and polished already. I remember playing many games like this, but the planet aspect definitely gives it a nice spin ^_~

Hard to bring up much negatives, aside from the music which was repetitive and got a annoying fairly fast, the rest was a massive nostalgia trip for me.

Developer

Thank you very much for this positive feedback. Did you rate it, because I'm not sure if the counter went up.

Anyway, I'm going to play our game now and leave a rate and comment ;)

Submitted(+1)

The gameplay is great, nothing annoying about it. The controls are smooth, the gunshot speed feels right. The music is a bit lacking, but the sound effects are pretty decent. (I especially like the planet landing sound effect and animation, really satisfying.) The gameplay just in general doesn't have any nonsense, nothing artificially slows you down. (Except maybe the in space turn speed.)

Developer (1 edit)

Really appreciate your comment. Good that your feedback is mostly positive, but I will note down your critic points.

The turn speed seemed ok for me, but I will have a look at it, if I continue to work on the game.

I know that the music is not perfect, but I decided to do everything on my own :D This will also be improved in a future version.

Developer

What was not wrong with the in space turn speed? Was it too slow or too fast?

Submitted (3 edits)

Just a little bit  too slow, in my opinion. -Then again balance wise, it might be pretty important for keeping the player from just flying around in space all the time.

Submitted(+1)

Very impressing, great job

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Lol the gameplay is amazing considering you made it in one week. Congratulations mate!

Developer(+1)

Thanks. This was quite a tough week to work on the project, next to my daily work. But everything turned out as expected :D
